    By Bill Vint - PBA

LAS VEGAS – Ryan Ciminelliof Cheektowaga, N.Y., struck on

10 of 12 shots to defeat top qual-

    ifier Anthony Pepe of Elmhurst,

N.Y., 269-211, in the title match

of the PBA Xtra Frame South

Point Las Vegas Open at South

    Point Bowling Plaza.

In winning the duel of New

    York lefthanders, Ciminelli

picked up his third career title

and first since the 2013 PBA

    Chameleon Championship. It

    was a big disappointment for

Pepe who had led the tournament

    from the first round, qualifying

first for the stepladder finals by

    370 pins over Ciminelli.

“It’s so hard to win a tourna-

ment twice, and leading by 370

     pins…man , I’ve been there,”

Ciminelli said. “I know what it

feels like. I thought he was a lit-

tle nervous and I tried to show a

little emotion, and get after him.

    That’s just part of competition.”

In the first match, Ciminelli’s boyhood idol, 52-year-old PBA

Hall of Famer Parker Bohn III of

    Jackson, N.J., put together a

string of four strikes, but got

    help when Bill O’Neill of

Langhorne, Pa., left the 2-10 and

4-5 splits, opening in the fifth

and eighth frames to give Bohn a

    comfortable cushion in his 215-

200 victory. He then started the

    second match with seven strikes

    and ran away from Australia’s

    Jason Belmonte, who left three

10 pins in the first five frames,

    253-210.

Bohn’s bid for his 35th career

title and sole possession of fifth

place on the PBA’s all-time ti tles

list (he currently is tied with

Mark Roth) came to an end in

    the semifinal match when

    Ciminelli followed a missed split

    conversion in the first frame

with a string of five strikes on

    his way to a 234-190.

“It’s funny because whenParker bowls good, I seem to

     bowl bad. When Parker bowls

bad, I bowl good, because of the

    differences in our styles,”

Ciminelli said. “But this week, it

seemed like if you threw the ball

    well, you were rewarded.”

Ciminelli, 29, said the win also

    was an important building block

    in her career.

“I still have a ways to go in

taking what comes to you, and

just dealing with it. Parker’s my

idol that way. He just never gets

upset about anything. I still have

some things to learn about being

    a professional bowler and one

    thing that happened this week

    was dealing with perseverance. I

had two 140 games and usually

when I do that, I just miss the

cut. To come back from that was

big for me; the old me wouldn’t

have been able to do that.”

OAKLAND, NJ - Pat Powell beat

all the competition rolling in the

    Holiday Bowl, Sunday, King of

the Hill event and this is his third

week in a row on top.

    Rob Cahoon was high rolling

    with games of 279, 278, and 279

    for an 836 impressive series.

USBC RAISES BAR FOR COMPETITION INTEGRITY

WITH BOWLMOR AMF U.S. OPEN RED SOX STAR MOOKIE BETTS CREATES

MEDIA IMPACT FOR PBA WORLD SERIES The news of Boston Red Sox star Mookie Betts’ decision to enter the

GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VII made an immediate impact

on news media attention for WSOB VII. Within minutes of the PBA’s

announcement, Boston Globe Red Sox beat writer Peter Abraham tweet-

ed the news, which led to re-tweets and comments on masslive.com,

    redsoxlive.com and overthemonster.com, among others.

Within hours, the news spread to ESPN, Fox Sports, the Providence

Journal, New York Daily News, Bangor Daily News, CBS Boston,

NESN (New England Sports Channel), Boston.com, millcitysports.com

and many other websites, social media outlets and publications, includ-

ing many throughout the bowling industry.Immediately upon the close of the major league season, Betts returned

to his Brentwood, Tenn., home and, according to his mother Diana

Benedict, headed to the bowling center to begin preparations for WSOB

VII. Bowling – and Red Sox fans – around the world will be able to fol-

low Betts’ throughout his WSOB experiences by watching PBA’s Xtra

Frame online video-streaming service and/or free live scoring on

pba.com. Betts will compete in the PBA Cheetah, Viper, Chameleon and

Scorpion Championships Dec. 8-11 at the National Bowling Stadium in

Reno, and additional rounds if he finishes among the top qualifiers.

    By Terry Bigham - IBC

ARLINGTON, Texas – Bowlmor AMF, the largest

operator of bowling centers in the world, in collab-oration with the United States Bowling Congress

and the Bowling Proprietors’ Association of

America, will provide a new level of lane integrity

for bowlers at the 2015 Bowlmor AMF U.S. Open.

Bowlmor AMF worked with USBC and Lane

Analytics to complete a comprehensive topography

evaluation of the lanes at host center AMF GarlandLanes, ahead of the event that will take place Nov.

    2-8 in Garland, Texas.

Each board of every lane was inspected and lev-

eled every three feet in 18 locations per lane. As a

result, 99 percent of the crowns and depressions

plus cross-t ilts are within twenty-thousandths of an

inch of flat. This dramatically exceeds USBC’s min-

imum standard of forty-thousandths of an inch using

    three inspection locations per lane.

“Bowlmor AMF is committed to competitive

bowling and playing a leading role in moving the

sport forward in a positive way,” Bowlmor AMF

Vice President of Leagues Jay Lietman said. “We

are proud to create a world-class venue for the U.S.

Open and strive to provide an exceptional experi-

ence for our league bowlers across the country as

well.”Details of the U.S. Open lane pattern also are

designed to achieve a higher level of competition

integrity. The lane pattern will not be revealed until

immediately before official practice at AMF

Garland Lanes. Additionally, there will be no re-oil-

ing of the lanes between squads.

“From an integrity perspective, Bowlmor AMF

has provided a venue of the same high quality you

find with a custom installation such as the USBC

    Open Championships,” USBC Executive Director

Chad Murphy said. “With no information being pro-

vided about the pattern in advance of the event and

also no re-oiling procedure during the event, wehave taken a step further to leveling the playing

field. Multiple angles will need to be played

throughout the event to be successful. It’s exciting

to think about and I’m looking forward to it.”

USBC plans to use the partnership model devel-

oped with Bowlmor AMF to improve lane topogra-

phy for future host centers of championship events.

Limiting the release of lane pattern informationalready is standard practice for the Professional

    Women’s Bowling Association Tour, Intercollegiate

Team and Singles Championships and most recent-

ly, the 2016 Junior Gold Championships.

While many equate a golf scorecard to bowling’s

pattern information, Murphy explained a golf score-

card doesn’t change, since yardages are always the

same, but bowling patterns migrate on top of the

lane with every shot so it’s not static and is always

    evolving.

“The static piece in bowling is topography of the

lane,” Murphy said. “In golf, the scorecard or

yardage book that a PGA professional receives the

morning of competition is the topography while the

pattern is the rough, the speed of the green and thewind. In bowling, the lane map is the topography

while the pattern is the factor that changes from shotto shot. For the 2015 Bowlmor AMF U.S. Open, we

have done the work to ensure the lanes are in cham-

pionship condition by making sure the lanes are

well within specification. We also are delivering a

scorecard to competitors. You can see a detailed

report on the topography of the lanes at AMF

    Garland Lanes here.

“It is USBC’s role to create a level playing field

where the athlete’s skill determines the outcome as

we continue to build a future for the sport. We

appreciate having a great partner hosting the U.S.

Open to help make it possible.”

PBA television ratings on ESPN for 2014-15 notonly showed a 23 percent increase in viewership, but

made important gains in valuable demographics,

PBA CEO and Commissioner Tom Clark said.

Newly-released ratings data comparing the overall

2014-15 PBA telecasts on ESPN to the 2013-14 sea-

son showed ratings gains in desirable areas such as

males age 18-49, which was up 55 percent. The com-

bined male-female audience in both the 18-34 and

18-49 age groups were up 50 percent year-over-year.

“It’s an exciting time for the PBA,” Clark said.

“These numbers are rarely achieved in sports TV and

are very encouraging. They are both valuable andattractive to sponsors and partners. The PBA’s mix of

exciting players including Hall of Famers, interna-

tional stars and former collegiate players making

their mark in increasingly diverse and prestigious

events, plus the continued support of ESPN have the

    PBA positioned for further growth.”

The new PBA on ESPN schedule begins Dec. 17,

    with a special Thursday, 7 p.m. ET (4 p.m. PT) live

telecast of the PBA World Championship from the

GEICO PBA World Series of Bowling VII at the

National Bowling Stadium in Reno, Nevada.

    ROCKAWAY ROLLERS

To our customers at the Parkway Lanes, 200 Route 46, Elmwood Park, N.J.:

There continues to be a number of rumors circling around the industry about our business. We had our Financial Consultant address the league officers recently and he attempted to

provide information first to the league members and second to our loyal customers. At thismeeting he disclosed confidential information with the attempt of gaining trust in thestatement that all of our leagues and parties are secure in the thought of using our facilityas their Bowling Center. We have been working hard over the past 8 years to provide ourcustomers the best and most comfortable bowling alley in Bergen County.

We mentioned in our meeting that we have been approached by several entities interestedin purchasing our business. We have been approached by more than a dozen viable entitieswith the interest of purchasing Parkway Lanes in the past three years, however in each casewe have chosen to hold on to it ourselves, in spite of economic challenges.

In all the possible scenarios, we will be f inancially secure for this season and manyseasons to come, as promised.

For those of you who have businesses or business experiences, you will know that aChapter 11 filing allows a business to operate but it also exposes the business to totaltransparency which means anyone who has an interest in buying our business must bedisclosed to the public. It does not mean, in fact a sale or transfer of ownership will takeplace.

The partners of Parkway Lanes have invested more than a million dollars of their hardearned money to maintain and keep their business responsible.

We are using this advertisement for one purpose and one purpose only. We wanteveryone to feel comfortable about having a bowling house that they can trust, and so weare asking you publicly to accept our commitment to remain in business for many years tocome.

We take this opportunity to thank all of our patrons, our league members, and ourcustomers who have enjoyed using our facility as their Birthday party house and their

    corporate site for group gatherings.
