Miracles abound! Every day in the Day Room we are privileged to witness exception-al acts of kindness. All through the coopera-tion with God’s Grace. The benefits of chari-table work are always two ways and o en skewed toward the giver. Last week a lady brought us seventy beautiful hats she had knitted for the families here. She accomplished this great kindness by fol-lowing the prompting of the Holy Spirit to “turn off the news!” Instead of being anxious about circumstances beyond her control, she chose to create something lovely for others. And she found herself at peace for the first time in a long while. Another friend of the poor began baking sweet breads to include on our lunch menu. Our guests are delighted by her breads and she enjoys creating new recipes and filling her home with the happy fragrance of baking bread. She has recently moved on to creating Quiches for our breakfast menu! Thank you, Holy Spirit! Others have been growing vegetables for us to distribute while discovering the joys (and challenges) of backyard gardening for the first time. All of these gestures are creative and lifegiving for both the giver and the receiver. What creative kindness might the Holy Spirit be generating in you?

This is a reminder that we still need parishioners from Saint Agnes to sign up for 40 Days for Life!
40 Days for Life is an initiative that seeks to have people praying outside of Planned Parenthood on South Wayne Street every day from 7am to 7pm from September 22nd to November 1st. This is meant to be both an act of witness to a culture of life and God’s love for the most vulnerable as well as a time of prayer and asking for God’s mercy.
We are especially looking for volunteers to pray on Saturday October 17th, which will be covered entirely by Saint Agnes Parish.
Precautions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, including mask wearing and social distancing, will be in place.
Please note that if you volunteer for 40 Days for Life, you are simply volunteering to pray outside of Planned Parenthood. You will not be asked to provide any kind of counseling.

The month of October is Respect Life Month. This is when, as a Church, we draw attention to the ways in which the dignity of human life is threat-ened in our world and pray that all life will be protected, especially for those who are most vulnerable.
October is also the month of the Holy Rosary. Beginning October 1st, we encour-age you to pray the Rosary daily, even if it is only a decade! Those 10 Hail Marys are powerful especially when we ask God to protect the most vulnerable among us. “When the Holy Rosary is said well, it gives Jesus and Mary more glory and is more meritorious than any other prayer.”

FLAME OF LOVE OF THE IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY prayer group meets Wednesday, 11 – 12 AM in St. Agnes’ Chapel during Eucharistic Adoration. Moth-er Mary said to Elizabeth Kindelmann, “Do you know what you represent? You are a sparkle of light enkindled in my Flame of Love. The light you receive from me enlightens souls. The greater the number of souls who sacrifice and watch in prayer, the greater the power of my Flame of Love on earth will be. Hence, line up in close rank because it is with the power of sacrifice and prayer that the flash of hellish hatred will be overcome. Evil will diminish gradually, the burning flame of hatred will be put out, and the splender of my Flame of Love will fill all regions of the earth.” Come pray the rosary with us in response to Our Lady’s urgent request. Members of the St. Agnes Prayer Shawl Ministry have continued to work at home since March, cra ing comforting shawls to be given to persons suffering from serious illness, loss of a loved one, isolation, or otherwise in a crisis situation; also baby blankets for infants at risk, and "pocket shawls" especially appropriate for members of the armed forces. More recently, as the pandemic drags on, meetings have resumed, outside, socially distant, with every worker wearing a mask. Normally, meetings are twice a month. Being weather-dependent, the outdoor meetings are sporadic. We hope to be able to meet regularly again indoors when it gets cold, masked and socially distanced. Meetings are an hour long, and most work is done at home at one's own pace. Yarn and instructions are provided. If you knit or crochet, this is an easy and rewarding ministry, and new members are always welcome.

Los enamorados pintan corazones en los árboles y en las iglesias. El Sagrado Corazón no es sólo una representación sensible, ni su devoción se queda en un conjunto de prácticas religiosas. La devoción al Sagrado Corazón evoca el amor del Hijo de Dios que se encarnó por amor y que entregó su cuerpo en la cruz mediante un acto de amor. Esta devoción ayu-da a centrar la vida espiritual en el amor de Jesús, rico en misericordia.
El buscador de Dios encuentra en la oración una respuesta. La meditación diaria es un mo-mento de gracia en que el Espíritu Santo viene con Su poder y nos cubre con Su sombra (cf Lc 1,35). Allí, el amor se convierte para el sediento en la única ocupación.

La Iglesia Católica vive el mes de octubre de-dicado mundialmente a despertar el Espíritu Misionero en los fieles, con gestos de solidari-dad hacia los 200,000 misioneros que entre-gan sus vidas por el anuncio del Evangelio en el mundo. Durante este mes, llamado "Mes de las Misiones" se intensifica la animación mi-sionera, uniéndonos todos en oración, el sa-crificio y el aporte económico a favor de las misiones, a fin de que el evangelio se procla-me a todos los hombres.

En Octubre: la Iglesia inicia la celebración del mes del Santo Rosario, una oración querida por muchos san-tos a lo largo de
la historia y que fue difundida por Santo Domingo de Guzmán por petición de la Santísima Virgen María. Según cuenta la historia, en la antigüedad: romanos y griegos solían coronar con rosas a las estatuas que representaban a sus dioses, como símbolo del ofrecimiento de sus corazones. La palabra “Rosario” significa "Corona de Rosas". Siguiendo esta tradición, las mujeres cristianas que marchaban al coliseo romano para ser martirizadas, llevaban sobre sus cabezas coronas de rosas como símbolo de alegría y de la entrega de sus corazones para ir al encuentro de Dios. Estas rosas eran recogidas en las noches por los cristianos, quienes recitaban una oración o un salmo por el eterno descanso de las mártires. La Iglesia recomendó rezar este rosario recitando los 150 salmos de David, sin embargo, esto solo la seguían las personas cultas, pero no la mayoría de los fieles. Ante esto, se sugirió que quienes no supieran leer, reemplazaran los salmos por 150 Avemarías divididas en quince decenas. A este “rosario corto” se le llamó “el salterio de la Virgen”.
Siglos después, específicamente en 1208, se cuenta que la misma Virgen María enseñó a Santo Domingo de Guzmán, fundador de la Orden de Predicadores (dominicos), el rezo del Rosario. La Virgen se le apareció sosteniendo un rosario y le enseñó a recitarlo. Luego le pidió que lo predicara por todo el mundo, prometiéndole que muchos pecadores se convertirían y obtendrían abundantes gracias. Santo Domingo de Guzmán salió de allí lleno de celo, con el rosario en la mano. Efectivamente, lo predicó, y con gran éxito porque muchos albigenses volvieron a la fe católica.

En octubre mes del Santo Rosario están todos invitados llos Domingos a las 11:30 AM; al finalizar la Santa Misa en Ingles estaremos dando inicio al Rezo del Santo Rosario; Por las intenciones del Papa Francisco, Por las Necesidades de la Iglesia; Por toda la Humanidad para que lleguen a la plena conversión; Por nuestras intensiones personales y de toda la Comunidad.
