Panther Enrichment Program

PROGRAM VISION:

The Panther Enrichment Program’s vision is to be one of the State’s leaders in offering programs when school is not in session, to provide opportunities for students to go beyond the standard curriculum with additional

learning opportunities.

PROGRAM MISSION:

The program mission is to provide opportunities for personal growth, self-improvement and academic achievement among the students of Frankfort Independent School District.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

REGISTRATION: All registration forms must be turned into your building by September 21, 2018.

BREAKFAST / LUNCH: The Fall Panther Enrichment Program is offering breakfast and lunch as a part of its

programming.

EXCEL

Excel for Second Street and Frankfort High School students will be

offered by invitation, from teachers. Excel week is Monday, October 1st through Friday, October 5th. EXCEL is designed for students who need additional instruction and practice in order to master standards that have already been taught. Students will be expected to attend EXCEL until teachers confirm their completion of work and/or their

progress in mastering the standards. Please contact your student’s teacher(s) if you have any questions regarding EXCEL.

Programs Overview Frankfort Independent Schools is embarking upon a year of revamped enrichment programs for our

students. Our goal is to provide learning experiences for students from K – 12, that would be available

during our intercession. We hope all families can find something that will be of interest to them and their

students.

SCHOOL SPONSORED PROGRAMS:

These are PEP offerings that are being led or coordinated by our Frankfort Independent School staff

members. Our staff are dedicating a week (or more) of their intercession to building a quality and enjoyable

experience for students. You will see their names listed with the PEP information; they will coordinate the

final details for these programs. These PEP offerings will have a nominal fee and classes will be filled on a

first-come, first-served basis.

COMMUNITY SPONSORED PROGRAMS:

These are PEP offerings that are being led and coordinated by our Community Partners and local

businesses. Our partners have dedicated time and resources during our intercession to offer FIS students

great experiences, at a reduced cost. You will see their names listed with the PEP information; they will

coordinate the final details of their program and may require additional registration information from

parents. Please pay close attention to any correspondence that you receive for your child to participate.

These PEP offerings will have fees that will be due upon enrollment. Classes will be filled on a first-come,

first-served basis.

Bus transportation will be provided to SSS and FHS daily for in-district students to participate in the PEP

classes; transportation needs MUST be notated on the registration form. Other transportation

information is also notated– see each PEP offering for those details.

Financial Assistance and Course Fee Information Frankfort Independent Schools strives to provide a quality and enriching experience for all students

that participate in the Panther Enrichment Programs. Each PEP offering will have a cost

associated with it. However, we fully understand the limitations of each family’s budget and their

ability to pay for these additional expenses. We are offering financial assistance to those families

that would like to access PEP but need help in doing so. School sponsored PEP offerings are a

set-rate designated by the district, and financial assistance is available. Community sponsored

PEP course fees are set by the business and financial assistance is available for most programs

through Frankfort Independent Schools.

FEES FOR SCHOOL SPONSORED PEP: Full Day Offerings - $10/day

Half Day Offerings - $5/day

You will have the opportunity to request FULL or HALF scholarship.

The course fees vary for the community sponsored offerings.

Kindergarten PEP Offerings

Cooked on Phonics Mrs. Marty Hulette Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (Should attend all days of class) Second Street School 12:30pm – 4:00pm Course Fee: $5.00 per day This “Cooked on Phonics” experience will have your little one learning letters and sounds, all while making fun snacks and crafts. Introduction to Cheerleading Mrs. Amber Robinson Tuesday and Thursday (Should attend all days of class) Second Street School 8:30am – 12:00pm Course Fee: $5.00 per day Students will have fun learning how to do cheerleading jumps, motions, and age appropriate cheers and chants. Students will engage with a cheerleading coach to learn basic fundamentals of cheerleading. Instructor email: [email protected]

*Gymnastics Camp Mrs. DeAnne Norton Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (FULL WEEK CLASS) 118 Brighton Park, Frankfort 8:30am – 12:00pm

Course Fee: $45.00 (for the week) Students will have the opportunity to learn a variety of skills in gymnastics; students will pick up some basic gymnastics and tumbling skills and gain strength, agility and flexibility. *Urban Ninja Basics Mr. Will Bunge and Coach Orashe Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday (choose a day or multiple days to attend) Ewing St. Gym 8:30am – 12:00pm Course Fee: $10.00 per day Every student is in for an adventure with Urban Ninja Basics! This program will engage students in using games and obstacles to explore variables of movement and skill development. Students will encounter challenges with balance, endurance and focus. All under 18 will submit a signed waiver by the parent. Canoe KY is offering trips on Elkhorn Creek for students to gain knowledge of the outdoor opportunities, right here in Frankfort. 2nd Grade PEP Offerings Fairy Tale STEM Problem Solving Mrs. Christy Murphy Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (FULL WEEK CLASS) Second Street School 8:30am – 12:00pm Course Fee: $5.00 per day Prerequisite: Student must be willing to work in groups Students will use re-purposed household and recyclable materials to build solutions for characters in well-known fairy tales. For example, students will design and build a better chair that Goldilocks will not break. Students will use design process to problem solve, create, build and improve their designs. Students will have the opportunity to explore the culinary arts from local owner and professional chef/baker, Mrs. Beth Greenwell Carter. During this program, students will learn baking and decorating tips from the pros at B’s Bakery through a hands-on class. All students will take home their creations at the end of the class. Students will be able to understand baking and decorating techniques while exploring a career in the culinary field. Instructor email: [email protected]

Main St., Frankfort 8:30am – 12:00pm Course Fee: $100.00 (for the week) At the White Cat Studio, located in Downtown Frankfort, students will learn drawing techniques and layering with ink and watercolors. Student will have to solve problems using a variety of materials and learn to control different mediums to achieve the effect they’re looking for in their artwork. Students will have fun as they relax and be creative. Steel Drum Ms. Amelia Berry and Rebekah Berry Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday (FULL WEEK CLASS) Frankfort High School 8:30am – 12:00pm Course Fee: $5 per day The steel drum, or “steel pan” as it is known in its native Trinidad, is a fun and versatile instrument that can make beautiful music of all kinds, from calypso to classical to funk. In this week-long camp, students will learn to play two simple songs in a small ensemble, and will be ready to perform them by the end of the week.
