Students and ParentsIn this pamphlet you will find contacts, mailing addresses, applications and deadlines of various

scholarships, bursaries and awards. This is a rough guide and it is impossible to keep all the information current. Remember: dates are often based on last year’s deadlines and can change from year to year.

Check the KRHS webpage often (under the Student Services Department section) and listen to announcements on various scholarships, bursaries and programs available. Many universities and colleges, businesses, and organizations offer scholarships, bursaries and awards that you may seek out through advertisements, word of mouth or the internet. The responsibility lies with you to investigate any and all avenues where these scholarships, bursaries and awards may be offered.

Many awards require a copy of your transcript, letters of recommendation/reference or an essay. Allow yourself and staff members time to prepare any of these requirements.

Notes:• Often students who have an average of 80% or higher in Grade 11 and have maintained this

average in the first semester of Grade 12 are automatically considered for scholarships to the university or college that they make application to (if institution offers these types of awards). This process usually takes place in February/March. Some universities have separate applications for entrance scholarships. So read carefully and be aware of due dates.

• Students should make an appointment with the School Counsellor to assist in planning and applying to universities or colleges.

• Also visit http://krhsweb.wordpress.com/ for scholarship, bursary and award information. Look under “Student Services” tab

• Other helpful sites are as follows:• www.ScholarshipCanada.com • www.studentawards.com • Also visit Three Oaks: http://www.edu.pe.ca/threeoaks, Colonel Gray: www.edu.pe.ca/gray and

Bluefield: https://bluefieldcounselling.wordpress.com/scholarships/. These sites also post available awards, which may be missing from this booklet.

• Scholarships and awards that students accept will only be announced at the graduation ceremonies once the students has provided a letter from the institution confirming the award. Please bring in a copy of your offers to the school counselor.

• It is imperative that students check the Scholarship/Bursary board at school regularly.

KRHS Administered Scholarships and Bursaries

UPEI Scholarships and Bursaries

* Applications and further information is available online at http://www.upei.ca/studentlife/displayscholarships. Under the “Status” filter, choose “Entering 1st year” and hit search to see those scholarships that apply to

students currently in grade 12.

7

UPEI has two types of scholarships available to students.

1. Scholarships for which an application is NOT required- application for admission must be received by UPEI by March 1st in order to be considered for these scholarships. These scholarships will not have a PDF application form attached to the scholarship description.

2. Scholarships for which an application IS required. Some also require essays, references, transcripts etc. When you click on these scholarships under the sorted list, you will find a PDF Application form attached.

Holland College Awards

Information concerning these awards can be found by contacting Crystal Neary ([email protected] or 902-566-9374) or visiting www.hollandcollege.com

(under popular links- student awards). Awards can then be sorted by keywords (eg. Entrance for those students currently in grade 12) or by program.

It is important to note that:1. Scholarships and bursaries can be internal or external. Decisions concerning internal scholarships are made by a selection committee at Holland College. Decisions concerning external scholarships are made outside of Holland College. 2. INTERNAL: Students must fill out a separate application form for each bursary and/or scholarship (internal) that they wish to apply for. Applications for Internal scholarships are returned to Holland College. Application forms for internal scholarships and bursaries are found at: http://www.hollandcollege.com/alumni-and-friends/student-awards/application-required-forms/The same form is used for all of the internal scholarships and bursaries but a separate form must be filled in for EACH scholarship or bursary you wish to apply for. There is also an outline for a resume and additional information sheet on this website.

3. EXTERNAL: External scholarships and bursaries will likely have their own application forms and procedures (see the listed websites)
