Mather LifeWays customerIrene Flores is making themost of her retirement.“I worked hard, and

I’m free now,” she says. “I don’t want to miss out on

all the fun things I couldn’t do while Iwas working.”

Those “fun things” include Mather LifeWays films, art lectures, and monthlyluncheons, which she started attendingas soon as she learned about them fiveyears ago at St. Andrew’s Greekfest. Herfavorite events are the luncheons: “It’s acombination of everything—a wonderfullunch, live music, and dancing,” Irene says. She can often be found out dancing andenjoying live music. “I go to Summer-Dance in Grant Park, the World MusicFestival, all the “fests”—Blues Fest, Jazz Fest, you name it.”

Irene is a wonderful ambassador forMather LifeWays in Edgewater. “I tell my friends and neighbors to come to the luncheons.” She even got her son tostart attending. “He’s getting ready to retire, and I’m trying to prepare him so he’ll have something to do when he stops working,” she explains.

Don’t Fall Victim to Email or Internet FraudBy Chicago Methodist Senior Center

The scenario is too common to be ignored. Raymond, our computer services coordinator, gets an urgentemail or phone call saying, “I’ve been hacked,” or “I was locked out of my accounts.” Here are sometips to avoid email and internet fraud:

u Purchase merchandise from a reputable sourceor establishment.

u Be cautious regarding unsolicited email, especiallyif it involves an investment offer.

u Purchase items online using a credit card insteadof a debit or checking account. These types of purchases are more easily disputed if there is anerror or fraud attempt.

u Ensure that the seller uses a secure site for payment method.

u Beware of imposters—someone pretending to be with a charity or business when they are not.

u Only download from websites you know andtrust. Downloading programs to see pictures or play games could unleash a virus that harmsyour computer or puts your personal informationat risk.

u Be cautious of links in emails from unknownsources. They can contain viruses and spyware.

u Sometimes it’s better to delete unsolicited emailfrom unknown sources rather than asking to beremoved from their email list.
