Principal’s Message
In recent weeks with the cold weather, parents have been asking about the
annual ski trip to Mt Selwyn. I have decided to offer the snow ski trip every two
years due to the re-structuring of our other major excursions. Our very active
Wellbeing Team, co-ordinated by Mrs Arnall and Mr Bell, have established a
schedule of major excursions. These excursions will be on a bi-annual basis, commencing in 2017.
This has been arranged to reduce the financial burden on families without their child missing out
on terrific educational experiences.
This now brings me back to the arrangements for the ski trip. The next ski trip will occur in 2018
and will not be to Mt Selwyn. I have proposed that our students will be offered a three day
excursion to the major ski fields. As with all excursions offered at Batlow Technology School, this
opportunity will be subsidised to allow maximum participation of students.
Your child may have made comments on the absence from school of Mrs Arnall. Mrs Arnall is
recovering from a health issue and will be re-joining our team in about two weeks. Mrs Arnall
cannot help herself in providing for our students. I get daily emails outlining events that need to
occur in her absence which further support our students. We wish her a speedy recovery.
I was delighted with the athletics achievements of Hannah Collins, Rayleigh Gould, Ryley Collins
and Jack Gould at the Riverina CHS Regionals. From our small team, Hannah, Ryley and Jack
have now qualified for State Athletics. Jack has prepared a detailed report in this edition of
“Scoop”.
Exciting educational opportunities continue to be provided to our students. This week, all female
students in Years 7 - 11 have been involved in a very select program, ‘Get Girls Coding’.Through
the determination of Mrs Wainwright, our school was selected by the Commonwealth Bank as the
only regional school in NSW to be offered the opportunity for the intensive five day program.
Already the girls are achieving impressive results under the tuition of two highly accomplished
technology staff provided by the program. Following this amazing opportunity, all the girls will be
invited to Sydney as guests of the Commonwealth Bank, where they will be further exposed to
successful females in technology. Mrs Wainwright’s report is in this edition.
In the next week, both students and parents will be provided the opportunity to complete an online
survey directly related to our school. The ‘Tell Them From Me’ survey provides information that
staff analyse to continue to improve our practice. If you would like to participate and require access
to a computer, then please contact the school. All survey responses are totally anonymous.
Our annual ‘Variety Night’ is scheduled for Wednesday 20 September 2017. As with every year,
staff endeavour to include every student in the performances.
Transition programs have commenced in readiness for 2018. Part of the process is to establish
senior students’ individual patterns of study. An information evening is to be held on Wednesday
23 August 2017 at 6.00 pm in the Learning Hub. This is a fantastic opportunity to discuss courses
on offer with relevant staff. TAFE staff will also be attending.
Next week we will have a display of suggested school jumpers for the future. Students will have
the opportunity to state their opinions on response sheets .This information will then be collated for
further discussion at the next P&C meeting on Monday 4 September 2017.
Have a great week!

CODER ACADEMY WORKSHOP
This past week our female students from Years
7-11 have been involved in designing and building
their own website. It has been a very intense week
of learning how to code, create HTML pages and
use CSS to ensure the website looks attractive and
professional.
Students were also involved in learning how an
ATM machine works and the coding behind the
workings of these machines.
Students were encouraged to help each other and
their teacher when they were finding coding difficult
and I would like to congratulate all the girls on their
maturity, resilience and perseverance when the
going got tough.
All students should be congratulated on their total
engagement with this program. The two teachers
from the Coder Academy in Sydney were
impressed with the commitment our students
displayed and expressed many times how quickly
the girls learnt new techniques.
This opportunity has enabled our female students to see and understand the scope of future
careers in this field and has allowed them to increase their understanding and knowledge of
creating web pages and the intricate knowledge required to carry these applications to the end.

DRUMMING WORKSHOPS
Russell from the Murray Conservatorium of Music in Albury visited Batlow Technology School on
Tuesday with a car full of drums. Russell held a workshop for Primary students and we all had a
fantastic time beating out the rhythm to songs like “We will rock you”.
A second workshop will be held in the near future featuring ukuleles.
TRENT BARRETT SHEILD
Zoe Taylor represented Batlow Technology School in a Year 3/4 Rugby
League Tag competition along with other girls from Brungle and Nangus
schools. The team was coached by Mrs Annetts, Principal of Nangus.
Results of the games were; a 4 all draw with Adelong Public; losses to
Gundagai 6-1 and Franklin 4-3, with a win against MacAuley Central 4-0.
Zoe enjoyed the opportunity to play with the other girls and made many
friends on the day. Zoe was named as the best player in her team by the
coach and awarded with a prize of a league tag football.
RIVERINA CHS ATHLETICS CARNIVAL
Rayleigh and Jack Gould along with Ryley and Hannah Collins attended the CHS Riverina
Carnival on Friday 28 August 2017. Rayleigh placed fifth in the 12 years Girls 800 metres,
Rayleigh started out well and led the first lap but couldn’t hold onto the lead after suffering a sore
ankle. Ryley placed third in the 15 years Boys 1500 metres, running at a solid pace and not letting
the lead runners get too far in front. In the 3000 metres Ryley placed second, qualifying for the
State event.
Hannah Collins placed first in the 17+ years Girls 800 metres, she led the entire way and finished
30 metres in front and qualified for State. Hannah also ran in the 200 metres and placed fourth.
Jack Gould won the 14 years Boys 800 metres and just missed out on breaking a 30 year standing
record by 60 milliseconds, he finished 110 metres in front of the next runner. Jack won the 400
metres finishing 50 metres in front of the second runner and missed out on breaking the record by
one and a half seconds. Jack also ran in the 3000 metres but had to withdraw with muscle
tightness.
Congratulations to all the team and good luck to those attending the State Carnival in September.
