Certification To become certified on this piece of equipment you will need to attend a training class that lasts approximately 45 minutes. By the end of the class you will be able to:
● Safely operate the Oculus Rift and Touch Controllers ● Identify approved and appropriate use of Oculus VR ● Become acquainted with the Touch Controllers ● Identify VR machine layout and parts ● Create and export a file using MasterPiece VR

Reservation To reserve this piece of equipment you will need to first be certified on this equipment. After you have attended a training for the equipment you may sign up for a time slot. To see available time slots and sign up for one, please see the Reservation Binder (available at the front desk). Your reservation reserves the equipment for you to use during that time, if you are more than 5 minutes late to your reservation time you will lose your reservation and the machine may be used on a first come-first served basis.

Overview Makers will learn how to:
• Safely operate the Oculus Rift and Touch Controllers • Identify approved and appropriate use of Oculus VR • Become acquainted with the Touch Controllers • Identify VR machine layout and parts • Create and export a file using MasterPiece VR
Safety Reduce the risk of injury or discomfort observe these precautions while using the headset and touch controllers.
• Be aware of your surrounding before beginning use and while using the headset with Touch. Use caution to avoid injury
• Remain seated unless your game or content experience requires standing • The Guardian system is enabled to assist you in staying in your play area.
Immediately discontinue using the headset if any of the following symptoms are experienced: seizures; loss of awareness; eye strain; eye or muscle twitching; involuntary movements; altered, blurred or double vision or other visual abnormalities; dizziness; disorientation; impaired balance; impaired hand-eye coordination; panic or anxiety attack; excessive sweating; increased salivation; nausea; lightheadedness; discomfort or pain in the head or eyes; drowsiness; fatigue; or any symptoms related or similar to motion sickness.

The area (reference)
The play area should allow safe unobstructed movement for the user. See Figure to the right. Play area: Minimum - 3ft x 3ft Optimal - 7 feet by 5 feet
Computer Setup (reference) For First time setup - Attach rift and sensors to ports on the machine as indicated in the figure to the right, then follow on-screen prompts to complete Oculus setup.

In the case a sensor does not work or is acting oddly, check “Devices” to ensure everything is connected correctly. You may also need to configure Sensor Setup by following the onscreen prompts.

STEP 1: Getting in the Gear (1-2 min)
Your Virtual Hands The touch controllers let you use your hands to interact in VR.
Hold the controllers and to get a feel for them. Each App on Oculus or Steam has different functions for the buttons. While you are in each app, test out and discover what each of the buttons do.

Immersive Oculus VR Goggles 1. Examine the Oculus Headset, notice the earpieces, adjustment straps, and lense spacing
slider(located under google's).
2. First you should slide the safety straps of the controllers
over your wrists and secure them. Allow them to hang from your wrists as you complete the next few steps.
3. Next place the goggles over your head and adjust the side straps to fit your head snugly. If at any time you become uncomfortable while in Oculus be sure to take a break.

4. Once the headset is on you will want to adjust the
earpieces to fit over your ears. Next you can use the lense spacing slider (located on the right underside) to adjust the view until you are able to see a clear picture.
5. Once you have the headset on your head and adjusted, grab onto the controllers.

Step 2: FIRST Contact Experience (10 min) Once you put on the Oculus, you will be in OCULUS HOME. OCULUS HOME is the ‘landing page’ for some of the apps you can access.
1. While in Oculus HOME™ Choose library by pointing your controller at the LIbrary icon and pull the trigger (first finger)
2. In “Library” select FIRST CONTACT by pulling the trigger on the Touch, under the first finger.

STEP 3: Make & Export a sculpture in Masterpiece VR (10 min)
1. Open Masterpiece VR from Oculus Home
2. Select and watch the Tutorials in Masterpiece VR. These tutorials will show you specific Touch Controller controls for sculpting in Masterpiece VR.
3. Make a simple sculpture (5 min). Create simple sculpture e.g. ladder, stick-figure, or an animal.

4. Export File to computer The sculptures made in most digital design apps in Oculus are able to be exported in formats that other software can accept.
A. Select “FILE” from the menu. In the new tabs that have been opened, select:
a. EXPORT b. Format - .stl c. Model - ALL
B. Finally choose “EXPORT” C. The file is now in the Masterpiece VR folder on the
computer: a. file name= EXPORT_# b. file is Date & Time stamped

Remove the Oculus Goggles, 5. Select your sculpture FILE and put on USB drive
A. Navigate to the File Explorer and go to Path:
a. Users b. [computer name] c. Documents d. Masterpiece VR e. Exports
B. Find your file a. find the most recent file using
the Date Modified Column.
The file name may be something such as: C:\\Users\[computer name]\Documents\MasterpieceVR\Exports
You can use this .stl file in other software such as TinkerCad. Alternatively, you can take directly to the MakerBot software to 3D print.

STEP 4: Collaborations in Masterpiece VR Another function of some of the apps in VR, is the possibility of collaborations.
