Odonates
• Odonates are aquatic insects & have been around for more than 250 million years.
• There are more than 500 known species in India. • As they feed on Gnats, Midges, mosquito larvae & other
pests they can be used to control dengue, malaria and protect the crops.
• They can be observed during monsoons (May-November) near fresh water ponds & rivers. Mid-day is the best time to watch them.• When photographing them wear dull clothes.• They are a very good indicator of the health of a wetland.• They require more detailed study.
