always innovating

your workplace... is evolvingFrom traditional wooden desks, through systems furniture ‘workstations’, of the 80’s and 90’s, ‘hot-desking’, in the early 2000’s, followed by collaborative ‘team-based benching’ and more recently the trend towards the ‘informal workspace’ - the workplace has continually adapted to the requirements of the commercial world.

Historically the changes were commercially driven: improving efficiency; reducing waste; and, increasing profitability, however more recently the drive for workplace change has also come from employees.

Yet it is not simply a matter of adapting the physical workplace to suit new attitudes to work. Fundamental to these changes has been the rapid development and application of mobile technology to allow workers the freedom to roam.

Since the mid-2000’s smartphones, and more recently tablets, have proliferated, becoming ever more powerful and feature packed. However, as with all battery powered devices, they need charging and where previously the

power outlets on a desk were primarily for PCs or laptops, workplace power provision now needs to consider many more mobile devices each of which need charging far more frequently and, ideally… FAST!

For over 25 years OE Electrics has been a global provider of “soft-wiring” connectivity solutions for commercial furniture. Throughout that time we have kept abreast of technology, ensuring that we have a solution to suit the next generation workplace.

Less interested in simply working an 8 hour shift; they desire flexibility and want to fit work around family and personal life. Although some may accept lower salaries to accommodate that, many do not, and businesses that want to retain their best talent have to find ways of making their employees feel less restricted, more empowered and, importantly, valued.

Our desire to stay ahead, together with years of in-house electronics research, has led to the development of our own unique Twin USB Fast (TUF) Charger, incorporating state of the art Intelligent Device Recognition (IDR).

The, now global, initiative to reduce electrical waste by standardising the USB outlet, as a power source to charge mobile devices, is quickly changing the face of soft wiring. Shorter USB cables, handheld devices and a new generation of worker that demands simplicity, have led to the old philosophy of hiding the power outlet being quickly overridden by the desire for more accessible power outlets – everywhere!

Engineering Design ‘creating functional products that do necessary jobs’, and Industrial Design ‘creating desirable products that are usable’ rarely overlap – however OE Electrics relishes the fact that we are one of those special cases where the two roles are closely intertwined.

It is paramount that our products are desirable, especially in light of current workplace trends, and our design team is encouraged to recognize that form does not necessarily follow function.

As a result of this philosophy, PLUTO was born, a groundbreaking concept providing a necessary function in a desirable, yet simple to use, form.

However PLUTO is just the visible culmination of years of development of a unique set of component building blocks, and it is only the start of a whole new approach to soft wiring design.

Following on from PLUTO and taking advantage of our minimalist round socket design, PENDULUM has been developed. Amazingly simple, yet hugely adaptable, PENDULUM can completely eradicate cables from formal conference table tops yet offer a fun solution for more informal spaces, in its ‘ice-cream’ cone holder. Alternatively, mounted on a flexible gooseneck, the PENDULUM module provides a unique proposition for power distribution in informal and soft seating areas as POSE, either standing on the floor or directly attached to the furniture.

Always innovating, OE Electrics often finds itself developing technology firsts. With two patents, PASCAL is one of those developments, providing a truly unique in-surface solution.

A true pop-up mechanism, PASCAL simply needs a twist of the lid to unlock it, freeing it to self-propel upwards. The revolutionary feature is that there is no cumbersome underdesk housing – simply drop-in, tighten nut, plug in and it’s fitted and working – simple!

A further distinctive feature is TUF Charger in PASCAL’s lid, allowing use even while closed.

Patents Pending

A huge portfolio of components means that we can accommodate virtually any shape of unit, allowing our clients to consider solutions previously unattainable.

In a global market place, OE Electrics has invested heavily to create an unrivalled portfolio of international building blocks that allow customers to develop their own cost effective multi-national solutions, not only for offices, but also for hospitality, education and transport markets.

At the heart of product development at OE Electrics is the desire to create a truly adaptable portfolio of products. We have coined the term “soft” for many of the features of our products:

• Soft wiring has long referred to our plug and play power solution.• Soft data refers to the fact that many of our products allow on-site data configurability.• Soft fixing whereby the position of a module can easily be changed at any time.

Our design teams are tasked, not only to design market leading products that can be made quickly and efficiently, thereby improving our primary goal - ‘Great Service’, but also to ensure that:

• It is simple for customers to understand, specify and order;• It is simple to install, and use, leaving open options to change or modify on site; and• It can all be achieved at the same time as reducing our, and our customers, impact on the environment.

In 1983, the UK led the world by introducing the first detailed ‘soft-wiring’ installation guide, BS6396, for the safe and controlled distribution of power and data cabling in office and educational furniture, and many countries now follow that as best practice.

Applied correctly, the power and data modules should simply be the visible “fashion statement” of the soft wiring installation. However it must never be forgotten that the appropriate and safe management of cables is fundamental to the safety of the workplace. OE Electrics once again has a variety of solutions to suit any application.

SAFE:with no cables exposed, tripping hazards are avoided and obstacle-free cleaning prevents dust & dirt build up

Whilst OE has the capacity for market leading design, we don’t forget our roots, or those of the soft wiring system. We have a full range of underdesk power and data solutions allowing connection from a national plug socket outlet, complying with relevant standards (such as BS6396 or UL962), or direct from the fixed wiring using a soft-wired power distribution network (under standards such as BS7671 or IEC60884).

Whichever units you choose, our UK sockets are ASTA certified, our international sockets are NEMKO tested and certified to relevant international standards and our manufacturing facility is continually assessed by Intertek / ETL for BS (British) and UL (North American) requirements, providing reassurance to our customers that our assurances of quality and safety are independently corroborated.

OE Electrics has a long history of assisting clients to design and manufacture their own connectivity solutions, not just by reconfiguring our own products to suit a specific application but also to create completely new products, for their sole use, allowing them to create solutions in harmony with their own product ranges.

From airport seating to laboratories and from conference desk to trading desk we have helped whole industries create their own look and feel, while keeping all the functionality for a global marketplace.

Through this brochure you will get a flavour of all the shapes and options we have developed for our own portfolio, but if nothing grabs your interest, then let us design one for you.

design

Whether you are faced with a 1000 workstation call centre, the gym’s changing room lockers or an international airport lounge there will be a perfect electrical solution for you, and our teams, around the globe, have the depth and breadth of knowledge to help you achieve it – from conception through to reality.

Our in-house design teams can assist your visualization of a proposal, from 3D rendered concept images to line drawings of individually configured products, which we send with every quote, and multi-component assemblies presenting a full cable management package to suit your circumstance.

Furthermore, we can even help prepare take-offs from your floorplans - determining cable lengths and installation information, leaving you free to manage the rest of your project.

Of course, behind the scenes, we continually invest resources in research, development and testing.

With our own in-house electronics division, we have uniquely been able to develop market leading fast USB charging (TUF) technology, incorporating Intelligent Device Recognition (IDR), overload protection, short circuit protection and compliance to global initiatives for energy performance and minimized standby power.

We can provide analytical comparisons between competitor solutions or alternative technologies, such as Wireless Charging, which together with maintaining a watching brief on technology developments keep us, and our clients, one step ahead of the rest.

We test every contact in every socket in every unitfor every order

Over our 30 year history, we have developed equipment to perform many product safety tests in-house, we have invested in equipment, such as the Fluke DTX1800 Data Analyser and our end-of-line production testing regime is second to none…

– without exception!

We are proud we can say “Made in Britain” following our core values of SERVICE, QUALITY and SAFETY.

With representation on British, Australian and International Standards Committees, OE Electrics is uniquely positioned, and has a responsibility, to provide sound, accurate and unbiased electrical advice to ensure standards compliance for your market sector and/or international territory.

All our sockets are independently certified, which together with a product drawings, wiring diagrams and assembly instructions maintain our ISO Accreditation and product certifications.

In addition we work with: consumer groups, such as PlugSafe; local authorities, such as The Electrical Safety Council (UK) and Department of Fair Trading (Australia); and independent testing laboratories, such as NEMKO, Intertek or ETL – to fight threats to electrical safety.

Most recently our activities have concentrated on exposing the illegality of Universal Sockets and the improvement of safety of USB Chargers – each of which have caused accidents or claimed lives in recent years.

Check our website to see white papers on a variety of technical and safety topics, plus links to third party websites and reports.

aboutOE Electrics, originally founded in 1986, as Office Electrics, operates its business on a policy of “Service – Quality – Safety”. This enables the company to achieve a highly respected reputation in the commercial office soft wiring and cable management industry, providing cost effective and innovative ‘Solutions by Design’.

Operating as a family owned and managed business, an underlying principle that ‘people matter’ is maintained, because “…it is the people we work with: our customers; suppliers; and, of course, our staff - that make everything possible!”

Our sales and technical teams boast some of the most experienced and respected individuals in the industry, keen to listen to client’s needs and propose the most cost effective and user-friendly solutions. Their success measured, not only by the continued repeat business, resulting from their excellent working relationship with clients, but by the 3rd party referrals from clients confident enough to promote us themselves.

In 2006, expansion plans and the globalization of the business took shape, with an office in Dubai serving the Middle East and the acquisition of Elsafe (Australia) Pty Ltd. Together with partnerships in France, Benelux and China, the OE Group has established itself as a global solutions provider – gaining Exporter of the Year Award, Going Global 2009.

With its headquarters in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, the company supports “Made in Britain” with in-house CAD design, plastic moulding, CNC machining, painting, assembly, 100% end-of-line testing and even web design. Managing the whole manufacturing process in-house allows complete control of quality and service which, in turn, has the effect of building confidence with the client. No better is this confidence exhibited than when clients ask us to help design and manufacture specific OEM products.

During the GFC, a policy of continued investment into new technologies, products and equipment, led to an explosion of revolutionary products, most notably with the unique USB TUF Charger in early 2013. Supporting “Made In Britain”, Office Electrics commissioned a fully automatic socket assembly line (SAL), wholly designed and manufactured in the UK, which can now manufacture over half a million sockets per year. Feel free to watch SAL on YouTube.

In 2014, following a number of years during which the OE Group had been expanding into markets such as hospitality, education and transport, the company changed its name to OE Electrics, reflecting the fact that it was no longer simply a solutions provider to the commercial office industry, whilst still maintaining a connection to its roots.

OE Electrics solutions can now be found in call centres, cafes, hotels, hospitals, airport lounges, sports centres, shopping centres, service-counters, home offices, AV studios and many more - all over the world.

So, if you feel inspired to be different, and you would like to talk through your ideas, just give us a call and we will help you create exactly what you want. No-one can give you better service and support wherever you are and whatever your need.
