subject-verb agreement
As you are building your sentences you should keep in mind that
the verb must always “agree” with the subject o a sentence. This
is true or all present tense verbs and auxiliary verbs.
The basic rule states that singular subjects need singular verbs
and plural subjects need plural verbs. In this lesson we will ocus
on how to identiy singular and plural verbs and their subjects. For example, in the sentence “I am a teacher,” both the subject “I”
and the verb “am” are in the singular orm. I the sentence had a
plural subject and a plural verb, it would read, “We are teachers.”
Here are some more examples:
Singular Subjects and Verbs Plural Subjects and Verbs
I love chocolate. We love chocolate.
You are a good student. You guys are good students.
He has a blue pen. They have blue pens.
Verbs do not orm their plurals by
adding an -s like nouns do. To know
whether to use the singular or plural
orm, you need to decide i the subject
represents more than one person,
place or thing.
