stewart hall art gallery – Project rooMThe title, from one of christina Morna Maclean’s photo albums, speaks of a time when life was good at Stewart Hall. Photographs and archival stories bear witness to the mansion’s 100 years of existence, giving us defining moments in the history of the building and those who once lived in it.

The Stewart Hall Art Gallery presents high quality professional exhibitions exploring a wide variety of themes, art practices and mediums. Specializing in contemporary art, the Gallery actively supports the visual arts in Quebec and in Canada by acknowledging established artists and promoting emerging artists. Through its cultural mediation and educational programs (workshops, talks, film screenings and lectures), the Stewart Hall Art Gallery fosters community involvement and helps make art accessible to all.

stewart hall art gallery By bringing new media into the art of relief printing, changing some of its aspects, and rethinking its use, the artists of Xylon Outside the Norms defy convention and reinvent their discipline. for this exhibition, Xylon- Québec has invited three accomplished engravers and chosen 24 others whose innovative practices challenge the codes of print media.

The composer’s epic Symphony no. 3, inspired by Highland fogs and Gothic landscapes, is conduc-ted by the young Kensho Watanabe. Completing the program, the magni-ficent overture The Fair Melusine is imbued with elegance and grace.

every fall, the Art Rental and Sales Service renews its collection by inviting the artists of the greater Montreal area to submit their works to a professional jury. Selected works are exhibited at the Gallery, then made available to the public for rental or purchase.
