Through His teaching, we learned what it means to be a true disciple. Through the death and resurrection of Jesus, we die to our old self and sinfulness, and rise to a newness that is filled with hope. We identify ourselves with the Cross, for it is in the Cross that we unite our own sufferings, pain, habits, addictions, and challenges. Life will rarely be simple, but we can be hope- filled that our true destiny will be reached if we walk in the footsteps of Christ by serving Him and others. By following the way of the cross in our daily life, we will grow in humility and hope. We can find Christ in the midst of the challenges and difficulties, and be ready to face them for we know that it’s the same cross that leads to redemption. There is an inherent foundation of hope that is based in faith that God will see us through our challenges and difficulties. No matter the length of time or the degree of any challenge, we see the light at the end if we are well rooted in our faith, embrace the cross, and believe in the mercy and promise of everlasting life. It is the Resurrection of Jesus that gives us the internal flame and inspiration to know that there will be a new day, and Jesus will be here to help us. After all, in dying he destroyed death, and in rising he restored life. Easter Sunday is indeed the day of great joy for Christ is risen. As hope springs eternal, may we cherish the love of the Father and the selfless acts of Jesus. May we begin anew, refreshed, rejuvenated, and our faith rekindled to re-consecrate ourselves to God who is our only answer. May we think of our Lord’s gift to us, and be ready to offer a gift of faith, hope, and love back to Him. It is in Jesus, that we all celebrate life with great joy. Fr. Michael

EASTER JOY AND HOPE

Happy Easter - The Lord has Risen - Alleluia! The joy of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior is something we can all celebrate today. Jesus who went to death for us in order that we can have eternal life is the truest gift of oneself for another.

Jesus who came into this world as an infant followed the mission set out for Him by our Father in heaven. During His ministry, Jesus spent countless hours among the people preaching, healing, performing miracles, removing demons, instituting the sacraments, and bringing people to life.

He faced the temptations of Satan in the desert, cured Simon’s mother-in-law, cleansed the lepers, healed the paralytic and the man with the withered hand, called and gave the mission to the apostles, fed the 5,000, and taught his disciples.

Life will rarely be simple, but we can be hope-filled that our true destiny will be reached if we walk in the footsteps of Christ by serving Him and others.

PASTOR NOTES

Rosary Society Upcoming Events Monday, April 24 – First Meeting of the year. Meet in church at 6:30 PM to pray the Rosary. Meeting to follow in Gathering Space. All women of the parish are welcome. Refreshments will be served. Monday, May 1 – Crowning of Mary Rosarians, First Communion children and all members of the parish are invited to come out to honor Mary, Queen of Peace. Rosary recited at 6:00 PM. Mass at 6:30 PM. Procession and Crowning of Mary to follow. Divine Mercy NEXT SUNDAY, April 23 We will be celebrating Divine Mercy on April 23 beginning at 1:30 PM. In order to gain the plenary indulgence the faithful must receive Eucharist and celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation just prior to or during the celebration of Divine Mercy. Two priests will be available for confessions on Saturday, April 2, 4-4:45 PM. Only one priest will be available on Sunday during the recitation of the rosary. As part of the day’s spiritual opportunities, the community will pray the Rosary, spend time praying before the Blessed Sacrament and recite the Chaplet of Divine Mercy at 3:00 PM with the service closing with Benediction. The faithful are encouraged to pick up a flyer at all exits of the church to participate in the Novena in anticipation of this special feast. Jesus said to St. Faustina, “I want this image to be solemnly blessed on the first Sunday after Easter and I want it to be venerated publicly so that every soul may know about it.”(341) “I want to grant a complete pardon to the souls that will go to confession and receive Holy Communion on the Feast of My Mercy.”(1109) Help Desperately Needed There are 20 Seniors at Chelsea Nursing Home that wait each Sunday morning to receive Eucharist. We have had three very faithful Ministers of the Eucharist that have provided this service the past several years and now is the time for someone else to step up. This ministry requires about an hour of time to carry Jesus to those who wait. If you feel you may be called to help, even just once a month, please call Mary Beth 973-728-8162, ext. 309. Women’s Cornerstone Our next Women’s Cornerstone overnight retreat is scheduled for Friday-Saturday, June 2-3, 2017. Registration forms can be found at the exits of the church.

Bereavement Support The next session of bereavement support for those who are grieving the death of a loved one is being held at St. Joseph’s Church on Tuesdays, April 25, May 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30. Those interested in attending please call 973-697-6100. West Milford Savings Card OLQP Boy Scout Troop 159 is selling the new West Milford Savings Card for $10. Use the card to receive a discount at a number of local businesses. The cards are available at the parish office and directly from the Boy Scouts.

Spring Campaign March 1 to April 9 18 Babies Saved

40 Days for Life ended with 18 babies saved at the Montclair abortion clinic. These eighteen mothers will be spared the emotional drama resulting from having an abortion. Post abortion women suffer from remorse, loss of self-esteem, have nightmares, resort to drugs, alcohol, and promiscuity to suppress the remorse. May they find the healing love of Jesus.

Our Legion of Mary and Knights of Columbus Members doing their part.

FOOD PANTRY THANK YOU

Our Lady Queen of Peace Food Pantry Volunteers distributed over 60 food baskets to the needy of our community on April 11th. We deeply appreciate the generosity of our parishioners and the local businesses that helped to make this happen. A special Thank you to Liz Carroll for organizing this event. We wish all a Blessed Easter

EASTER DECORATIONS Thank you to all of you who contributed to the beauty of the church for Easter. The list of Memorials can be found posted on the bulletin boards at the church exits. A special thank you to Battinelli’s Garden Center who donated many of the potted plants for our Easter Decorating this year.

CRS Rice Bowls We prayed, fasted and gave alms—and now we celebrate! Our Lenten journey with CRS Rice Bowl ends in our own hearts, where Jesus reigns forever. Let us rejoice in our risen Lord—and in the lives we’ve changed this Lent in Colombia, Laos, Rwanda, Honduras, Madagascar and all over the world! Don’t forget to turn in your CRS Rice Bowl placing them in the box just outside the Gathering Space or to the Parish Office before April 24th. Participation in CRS Rice Bowl is doing a Corporal Work of Mercy – Feed the Hungry. Thank you for sharing your mercy with those less blessed!
