Lifeline of First Baptist Church, Pampa, TX
VOLUME 71 NUMBER 3
march 23, 2018
Our first Widower Retreat is an idea born out of a heart desperate to see God’s hand in the trials of life. Eugene Polasek’s wife of 34 years, Deanna, went to be with the Lord last summer following a brief illness that was never clearly identified. What does one do when they lose their spouse at any age, much less unexpectedly with many years of life anticipated?
Eugene and I searched for ministry resources specifically for widowers, to no avail. There are many resources for grief, and many specifically for widows, but we could not dig up any specifically for “widowers.” This led us to begin designing a ministry specifically for men in that circumstance. The retreat is the first step to this new ministry, and is open to men from all over the panhandle, regardless of church or city, to find a time of encouragement and practical instruction.
We invited Claude Cone, himself a widower, to come and lead this one-day retreat. Interestingly, in all of Claude’s 50+ years of ministry, he has never been asked to lead such a ministry. With that, we were assured that this is a need worth filling!
We trust that just as God has directed us through these doors, He has purposes which He desires to accomplish. There are ways you can help with this upcoming ministry. First, please pray for men to attend! Second, please attend if this is your circumstance, or invite a friend or relative who may benefit from this one-day retreat. Third, please pray for Bro. Claude as he prepares and leads this special day of ministry. (He will also be preaching for us the following day!)
