Recap of Ch.4 John saw the open door of heaven and was called to see the heavenly setup. He saw the throne The one who sat on the throne He was like a jasper and a sardius stone in appearance A circular green (emerald is green) rainbow seen around the throne Around the throne were twenty four thrones Twenty four elders sitting on the thrones Clothed in white robes and with golden crowns From the throne proceeded lightnings, thunderings and voices Seven lamps of fire burning before the throne were the seven spirits Before the throne was the sea of glass like crystal separates the throne from the rest In the midst and around the throne were four living creatures full of eyes in front and back 1st like a lion, 2nd like a calf, 3rd face like a man, 4th like a flying eagle Each having six wings, Full of eyes around, Do not rest day and night, saying Holy, holy, holy Lord God Almighty, Who was and is and is to come Twenty four elders fall down before Him in worship casting their crowns before the throne saying You are worthy Oh Lord of creation.

Recap Ch.5:1-6 • 5th chapter is the continuation of Ch.4 because of the connecting word “And” or

“Then” of Ch.5 • A scroll or Book written inside and on the back, sealed with seven seals • Harry Ironside says the Book is the Title deed of this earth • This book unfolds the rest of the book of revelation • The scroll is written from inside front and back, rolled up and sealed, again written

some more, rolled up and sealed. • 7 Seals, 7 Trumpets and 7 Vials or bowls are not consecutive judgments. • The seventh seal are the seven trumpets, the seventh trumpet are the seven bowls

or vials • So the scroll contains not just the seven seals, but the seven trumpets and the

seven bowls • Thus the scroll that is in the hands of the Father unfolds the entire judgment and

tribulation for the rest of the book of Revelation. • But ultimately God is going to take complete control over this earth. • What Daniel saw, he didn’t understand as it was sealed, But now John is about to

see the seals getting opened. • The worship in Ch.5 is because of the Identity of the one who came forward to

open the seals. • What is His identity? One of the elders said, “He is the Lion of Judah, the Root of

David and the Lamb who was slain.” 3

Recap Ch.5:7-14 • There are 4 things about the Lamb-The lamb is standing, Lamb is slain, Lamb is

strong, Lamb is searching. The Lion and the Lamb are wrapped up in one person

• First, we worship in heaven because of His Identity • Secondly, we worship because of His locality • Thirdly we worship because of His activity • Fourthly we worship Him because He is about to reclaim authority over the

earth. • Fifthly we worship Him because He receives the worship of heaven. Three fold worship in heaven: V5:8-10 Believers Worship by singing the new song. V5:11-12 Multitudes of angelic hosts worshiping. V5:13 Every creature in heaven, on the earth and under the earth. According to Warren Wiersbe, the believers song has 4 sections, (Gospel hymn, Missionary song, Devotional hymn & Prophetic hymn) The angels were saying, they had nothing much to sing as they don’t experience redemption. The joy of redemption and the knowledge that we are redeemed together fuel the fire of worship in heaven. There will be a growing in worship in heaven, 2,3,4 & 7 fold doxologies

Chapter 6 – Intro. As we move into Ch. 6, things take a drastic change from Ch. 4-5. Man’s days on earth are going to end soon, structure is being destroyed, Jesus Christ is about to take control over the earth. • In Ch. 4-5 we have a heavenly scene. • Beginning in Ch. 6, we have an earthly scene. • In Ch. 4-5 there is great joy that is displayed. • Beginning in Ch. 6, we see judgment that is dispensed. • In Ch. 4-5 are centered around worship. • But Ch. 6 is going to be centered around the wrath of God. • In Ch. 5 we see a book (scroll) sealed with seven seals. In

Ch. 6 we see that scroll being unrolled and the breaking of the seven seals. The title-deed to the earth.

V 6:1 • As the Lamb took the scroll is about to open the

seven seals one by one and in the unfolding of the scroll we see the tribulation unleashed upon the earth.

• If you remember, the seven seals are not at the outside of the scroll. As the Lamb of God opens the seals one after another God is going to reveal the title deed of the earth little by little.

• (Read V6:1) • As the first four seals are opened, John saw four

horses and the one sat on the horses. The white horse, the red horse, the black horse and the pale horse.

• We need to understand the significance of horses. 7

V 6:1 • Jews and the ancient people held the horse in high

honor. For them horses mean conquest, battle, war, attack and victory.

• If we read scriptures we can understand the significance and the importance the whole concept of the horse to a Jewish mind. (Read Job 39:19-25)

• Horses represent God’s activity upon earth and the forces He uses to accomplish His divine purpose.

• God used the picture of the horse and the coloring of the horse is significant.

• 4 times we read the instruction “come and see” • We think the angel if telling John to come and see.

But it is not possible because John is already there.

V 6:1-2 • The Greek word used for come and see is “erchomai” • It is translated not only as come but also go and see • Every time seal is opened, one of the living creatures

tells to the horse and the rider go and execute the judgment.

• At the beginning of the tribulation the white horse is sent out to the whole earth to go and conquer.

• It is logical to think that the white horse and the one sitting upon must be Jesus Christ.

• We read in Rev 19:11-13 the one who is on the white horse is Jesus Christ.

• It is obvious to think that it is Jesus Christ in Rev 6 • But it is not so, there are some differences.

V 6:1-2 • The weapon in Ch.19 is sword, but here it is a bow. • In Ch.19, the crown is a diadem, a King’s crown, but in

Ch.6 it is a Stephanos crown, victors crown. • The appearance of the white horse signals the end of the

judgment, but in Ch.6 the white horse is the beginning of the judgment.

• Jesus Christ is the climax of the tribulation, not the beginning.

• If this is not Christ, then who else it could be? • It is none other than the false Christ or the antichrist. • Here is the antichrist bringing peace to the world. See

his bow has no arrow, the antichrist is going to conquer peacefully, no war.

• Daniel 9:26 & 27, He will make a covenant with Israel to protect them from their enemies. Beginning of 7 years of tribulation.

V 6:1-2 • At the beginning of 7 years, antichrist will come and he

will be the answer to all needs. • Everyone will think that the world’s problems will be

solved. But until 3.5 years. • The covenant with Israel will be broken and the

tribulation will be awful. • Do not be confused by the similarity of Ch.6 to Ch.19 • Satan always counterfeit the work of Christ

– Christ has a white horse, the antichrist has a white horse – Christ has a weapon, the antichrist has a weapon – Christ rides forth, the antichrist rides forth

• Satan has to come in the similarity of Christ in order to

deceive many. (Read from Dr. Criswell) • The first seal is the beginning of the tribulation which is

the white horse and the appearance of the antichrist. • This person could easily be alive today.(1 John 4:3, 2 Thessalonians 2:6-8) 11

V 6:3-4 • The rider on the second horse personifies war, the horse is red,

for the purpose of shed blood, it speaks about war. • Since Cain killed Abel, blood shed started on this earth. • We see the escalation of it today. • Someone has estimated that, in 5560 years of recorded history, more than

14550 wars are recorded, more than 2.5 per year. • Of the 128 or more conflicts since 1898, more than 73 of them took place

after World War II. War is growing. • Winston Churchill saw the 20th century as the kingdom of war. • Twice in one generation, the world was plunged into a major World War • WWI(1914–1918) involved 27 nations, caused lives of 10 million men and

left 20million men wounded. • Soon after WW I, the world was engaged longer, costlier deadlier, 32 millions

were killed on the battle fields, 15-20 million were bombing on civilian, 25 million died in concentration camps, 30 million were wounded. WWII(1939 to 1945)

• Since WWII, 12 limited wars, 48 personal revolts, 38 political assassinations, 74 rebellions for independence, 162 social revolutions (political, economical, or religious in nature) 12

V 6:3-4 • The rider was given power to take the peace from the

earth, the peace with which the antichrist deceived the nations.

• The Greek word for the soldier’s sword is rhomphaia. • But another Greek word for sword is makhaira

(μάχαιρα, meaning "broad knife" or "short sword", "dagger") That could be hidden inside the coat, known as the asassassin’s weapon.

• Kind of sword that is used to cut the throat of an animal or human.

• Second horse man represents not a war between nations and nation, but men are fighting against men.

• We are seeing the shadow of this event. We understand the day of Jesus is coming soon.

V 6:3-4 • Today men are afraid that war is imminent. • The whole society is sensitized with the nuclear

weapon. • More people talking about we need to unify and give

everything to someone who can help us and will bring peace, that is the context in which the antichrist will appear.

• What we see in Ch.6 is similar to the one Jesus said in Matthew 24:6,22 You will hear wars and rumors of wars. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened.
