Parish Directory Grace and Eternal Life Moses is a man after our own hearts, for haven’t we all dealt with more than our share of stiff-necked people? Indeed, haven’t we all gotten a little stiff-necked ourselves at times? Complaining… impatient… quick to anger. How lucky for Moses—how lucky for all of us—that God is exactly the opposite! And we don’t even have to guess about it. The Lord tells us so directly. Accordingly, Moses does what we all need to do. Even with the tablets in hand, he bows down and asks for God’s forgiveness and grace. Encouraging us to live together in peace—and in God’s favor—the Apostle Paul knows all about this grace, joyfully invoking Christ’s grace on us along with God’s love and the Holy Spirit’s. “Rejoice,” he says. And when it comes to rejoicing, John offers us the gladdest words of all: the assurance of eternal life through Jesus.

Chronically ill all her life and dead at thirty-five, Bernadette left behind the shrine at Lourdes where healing waters still flow from the spring that her “beautiful lady” pointed out to her.

To fulfill our mission, we maintain a safe and confidential outlet to foster hope for survivors, abusers, or concerned individuals. Domestic violence is a pattern of behavior in any intimate relationship whereby one partner seeks to gain or maintain control over the other. The abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional and psychological. Domestic violence can happen to anyone of any race, age, religion and gender. Domestic violence affects people of all socioeconomic backgrounds or educational levels.

Subject: Reopening Plan for St. Christina Church Amid COVID-19 Hello St. Christina Family, I pray that you and your loved ones are healthy. As you may have seen, Cardinal Cupich recently shared our multi-phased plan for reopening churches in the Archdiocese of Chicago. Specifically,
• Phase I allows for parishes to reopen for Baptism, Reconciliation, Weddings and Funerals with a limit of 10 attendees.
• Phase IA allows for parishes to reopen for private prayer and adoration with a limit of 10 attendees. • Phase II allows for reopening for weekday and weekend Masses for larger groups depending on the guidelines
from the state and the capacity of the church building. Our St. Christina Reopening Plan First and foremost, it is important for everyone to understand that our efforts will prioritize the safety and wellbeing of all while maintaining due respect and reverence for the sacraments and liturgical norms of our faith. I will assemble a Parish Reopening Leadership Team with parishioner co-captains to lead our efforts. Together, we will attend required training from the Archdiocese to ensure that our parish reopening plan conforms to the guidelines developed by the Archdiocese in collaboration with civil and healthcare authorities. We will also receive a starter kit of protective and cleaning supplies, as well as guidance on purchasing/maintaining supplies ongoing. Volunteers Needed We will need volunteers to assist with various aspects of our parish reopening plan. Importantly, leadership team members and volunteers must not be part of a “vulnerable population” (that is, not over the age of 65; no underlying medical condition such as diabetes, lung disease, undergoing cancer treatment, etc.). I ask all of you who are younger than 65 and healthy with no underlying health conditions to consider assisting with one of three reopening teams:
• Set-up team. Sample duties include ensuring that all supplies needed for each sacramental celebration/gathering are ready for use, entrances and exits are marked and propped physically open prior to attendees’ arrival/departure, windows are opened, etc.
• Greeting team. Sample duties include assisting in managing the flow of congregants as they enter the church; making sure attendees use hand sanitizer upon entering, are wearing a mask, and are reminded not to enter if ill; directing people to appropriate seating/waiting areas, etc.
• Cleaning team. Sample duties include maintaining and cleaning essential and trafficked areas of the church before and after the church has been used. Masks and gloves will be provided, if you do not have your own, in addition to approved cleaning/disinfecting supplies.

The Reopening Leadership Team and I will make sure that all volunteers are properly trained. Please send us a message at [email protected] to indicate your willingness and ability to volunteer. From those that step forward, we will also request that some act as volunteer captains to help lead each of the three teams. Timing for Our Reopening As I mentioned, the Parish Reopening Leadership Team members and I will need to complete required training, which will take place beginning the week of May 17. Once we complete the training, we will need to review and complete tasks assigned to all parishes as part of a reopening certification process to be approved by the Archdiocese. Therefore, the soonest that any parish in the Archdiocese will realistically open for sacramental celebrations, private prayer or Eucharistic Adoration is still to be determined. However, our parish, like all others in the archdiocese, will move forward at a pace and timing appropriate for its own situation. Following our training and certification approval, at St. Christina, we will only open our church once the Reopening Leadership Team and I feel confident that we have the right volunteers in place to make it possible to reopen. Again, the need for parishioner assistance cannot be overstated. The guidelines and measures required to reopen are designed to protect our wellbeing and that of our broader community. As Cardinal Cupich has noted, from the first pages of Scripture we learn that we indeed are “our brother’s keeper.” Our Lord Jesus Christ prayed, “that they all may be one” (Jn 17:21) and commanded us “love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another” (Jn 13:34). Our collective patience, willingness to help and the

Sew… We Need Your Help! If you can sew, we need your help! Disposable face masks are in short supply and fabric masks can help our healthcare workers and senior citizens. There are many designs online but simple is best. The instructions below for a simple mask can be adapted depending on what you have available. Tightly woven cotton fabric is best. If you don’t have flannel for the lining, use two layers of cotton fabric. If you don’t have elastic, use bias tape or fabric to edge the short end of the mask and make 10-12" ties on each corner. A collection box has been placed in the vestibule of the Oak Lawn Village Hall by the police desk on the west side of the building. The address of the Village Hall is: 9446 Raymond Avenue, Oak Lawn, IL, 60453. Please put your completed masks in a plastic bag and drop them in the box. They will be distributed as needed to local health care providers, nursing homes, etc. If you have any questions, please email [email protected]. Dig into your fabric stash and be creative! MULTI-PHASED PLAN FOR REOPENING CHURCHES PHASE I: Limited Sacramental Celebrations and Private Prayer Parish Actions and Responsibilities
• The pastor will need the assistance of the parish community, as he will be required to create a parish leadership team consisting of 6 people, including himself, to co-manage operations and to supervise cleaning, set-up and greeting.
• The parish business manager or someone designated by the pastor will serve as the compliance manager for the parish and assist with the submission of necessary compliance forms.
• The entire team of leaders is required to attend training and submit an implementation template for reopening, which needs to be reviewed and certified by the archdiocese or respective diocese.
• The parish will need to maintain an on-going procurement program for safety and cleaning supplies. • Based on go-forward approval, each parish will have the prerogative to offer Baptisms, Weddings,
Funerals, and Reconciliation in the church within the current limit of 10 attendees excluding ministers and on-site staff (“Phase I”).
• With additional preparation, each parish may optionally offer Eucharistic Adoration and private prayer times (“Phase IA”). In choosing to do so, parish leadership teams must comply with all published bishops’ guidelines outlining precautions preparing for, during and after the rite(s).
NOTE: During Phase I, parishes will not be allowed to offer either daily or Sunday Mass, even with 10 or fewer attendees. The resumption of public Mass, regardless of the number of attendees, is a more complex process, which requires the input of lessons that will be learned from Phase I. To that end, parishes and archdiocese or diocese will collaborate to gather data to improve the protocols and processes of the Plan before we move to worship services in Phase II. Archdiocesan/ Diocesan Actions and Responsibilities The archdiocese or diocese, depending on capacity, will provide the following services to support the parishes and pastors:
• Provide parishes information on securing supplies or a list of preferred vendors for supplies throughout the phases of the Plan.
• Conduct required training webinars for clergy, parish leaders and volunteers, to assist the pastor in managing the Plan in each phase. The Archdiocese of Chicago will develop a standard webinar based on these guidelines and make it available to the other dioceses in the Chicago Province.
• Create and distribute to parishes a video message from the local bishop to explain the Plan for reopening churches.
• Evaluate and certify parish proposals for opening during the phases. Create a dedicated email box that will be monitored by staff to answer questions or otherwise support parishes that feel they cannot open safely without additional help.

• Gather and evaluate data from parishes on their Phase I and IA experience to adapt Phase II protocols for larger numbers, which will include public Mass.
• Work with government officials to explore possible increases in crowd size taking into consideration the capacity of church buildings.
PHASE II: Resumption of Public Masses Parish Actions and Responsibilities In Phase II parishes may apply for certification to offer daily and Sunday Mass. Parishes will also continue to celebrate Baptisms, Weddings, Funerals and Adoration. Given the more complex nature of celebrations of the Mass, entering Phase II will require parishes to:
• Expand the number of parish team members if civil authorities permit an increase in the crowd size for Phase II.
• Maintain an on-going procurement program for safety and cleaning supplies.
• Continue recruitment and training of new, non-vulnerable volunteers as needed.
• Develop logistical procedures in accord with the guidelines of the Plan to manage more frequent and larger services that cover actions before, during and after the rites.
• Implement a safe and secure attendance reservation/ ticketing system to maintain order and facilitate possible contact tracing of infection.
• Submit a detailed proposal for implementing Phase II. Archdiocesan Actions and Responsibilities To support the parishes in the preparation and implementation of Phase II, the Archdiocese or diocese will:
• Establish and update requirements for all services and rites according to the standards of government officials, health care experts and church authorities.
• Review and certify all parish proposals for reopening with celebration of Mass.
• Provide additional required webinars and training, as needed.
• Create and distribute to parishes a video message from the local bishop to explain procedures for attendance at Mass in Phase II.
• Conduct random assessments over time to ensure continued compliance with published requirements.
• Gather feedback from parishioners across the Archdiocese or diocese on how well the safety protocols are working and how comfortable they are with church precautions for their safety.
• Continually monitor feedback on execution and resources to assist in problem solving through ongoing communication with parish leadership, state and local authorities and public health officials.

order is lifted. There are no exceptions to this, regardless of the size of the group. However, in case of an extreme emergency for baptism, please seek the permission of your bishop. Funerals and wakes must be postponed until Governor Pritzker’s order is lifted.
• No confessions until further notice.
• The Adoration Chapel is closed until further notice; however, Holy Hour with Deacon John can be viewed on the parish website, stchristinaparish.org, through the month of May.
• Split the Pot is on hold until the coronavirus issue is resolved and Sunday Masses resume. The pot will continue to grow and envelopes can be turned in at the Rectory or when Masses resume.

Football Registration 2020 Cardinal football season registration will be open for boys and girls in grades 3 through 8. It will take place at the St. Christina Fields on 111th and Central Park on June 11th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Social distancing measures will be in place and enforced at registration. (We ask when you arrive at the parking lot please remain in your car, and we will advise you on when to enter the garage for registration.) Please wear a mask.
Fees: Registration is $160 per player, maximum cost per family is $270. Additional costs for uniform pants and jerseys if needed. Note: Beginning this year, JV players will buy their own personalized jerseys similar to varsity. The jerseys can be used for all years the player is on JV. Besides, you know the season hasn’t even started yet… FATHER: But I thought it started weeks ago! SON: You’re kidding, right? GHOST: Jesus, I think your dad just forgot… FATHER: Forgot? Forgot what? SON and GHOST: The virus! FATHER: Oh damn. The virus… SON: You know the whole world is running scared. GHOST: He’s right, Big Guy. I overheard a husband and wife in Chicago talking the other day. The husband told his wife he’d been imagining a world fifty years from now when he’ll be telling their great grandchildren about the time back in 2020 when the people couldn’t go out to concerts, or even out to eat. And if they needed to go out for groceries, they had to wear face masks and practice something called social distancing. SON: Social distancing. Now there’s an oxymoron. Who thought that one up? GHOST: Well, in a sense, I did. And for that matter, Patient zero? Community spread? Contact tracing? All mine, in one fashion or another. SON: Of course… FATHER: But what about the wife, Ghost? What did the wife have to say? GHOST: Oh, yeah. Well, that’s the thing, BG.
