Linemen – Engage then react to what O-line is trying to do. If they push you in a direction get low and disrupt the direction.

M Backer – Responsibility is the FB. Reacts to the first move of the FB. Wrong arm FB, get shoulder low, create a pile-up.

W & S Backer – Responsibility is HB. React to the first move. R & B Backer – Contain guys. If play is away, wait 2 sec (clear cleats 3 times) then get to ball. If play is to, come up and play with outside contain the priority.

FS – is the QB spy, he flows with the QB and plays pass first.

CB’s – Play pass first then provide backside pursuit.

Strong side is determined by either the TE or the big side of the field. This will determine which side the Strong DE (S-DE) will line up on.

This is an attacking defense, every defensive player should be moving towards the backfield.

ZONE BLOCKING SCHEME

LT LG RTRGC

E T T EW

MM

S

1. Zero splits 6” between feet. Ask yourself are you covered or uncovered!

2. If you are covered that is your man, Drive your man away from the ball. Keep your backside to the hole called on the play.

3. If you aren’t covered you help block playside or take first threat and get to second level.

4. When lining up, shoulders are even with the Centers hips.

5. Use L.E.G. technique – Load, Explode, and Go.

6. Center help blocks backside then takes the pursuing backside linebacker or safety.

TE

Center blocks the opposite side the play is going to.

TKO BLOCKING SCHEME

LT LG RTRGC

E T T EW

MM

S

1. Zero splits 6” between feet. Shoulders are even with the Centers hips. Playside blockers from Center to ‘AT’ man (blocker at point of attack) block down on defenders at angles. Double TE’s.

2. Center is key, he attacks backside by taking 2 diagnoal steps and then stopping. If engaged should be a stalemate after 2 steps, if no defender just stop after 2 steps so other linemen can find landmarks. Make sure to get head to outside (opposite side) hip of rushing defensive player. Must stop the penetration, this is priority 1.

3. Playside G, T, and TE each fight to hit landmark, which is the outside shoulder of the man to their inside. If they are covered they take that man to the landmark, if uncovered take the next threat to the landmark. If defender is in track, you must drive him to landmark.

4. Backside G and T pull up into the alley that is created and find ‘UGLY’ jerseys. Guard looks outside-in and tackle looks inside-out.

5. FB seals the outside wall. FB most likely will get E at LOS or the CB. He always blocks the first threat.

6. QB has backside rushers.

7. The play should have a slight delay, no dive plays. Counters work well.

1. Zero splits 6” between feet. Shoulders are even with the Centers hips. Everyone moves to Center. Double TE’s

2. Center aims for the endzone. Fires out and then takes a half step and lets the rest of the line form and drive him up the field.

3. The Guards out to the Ends must step inside (slide inside) and get their inside shoulder into the near rib cage and their outside hand on the near shoulder pad while the inside hand presses on the lower back. It might take the tackle and ends two steps to get fit.

4. Runner fits in wedge and when he feels it slowing down he yells EXPLODE!!. All linemen shoot out and hit someone. Runner finds seem and goes.
