Psalm 18:2 Lost & Found Every year the school lost and found contains many personal items of clothing & many other items that are never claimed. These items will be donated to a local charity on June 1st. Please go through the lost and found to see if your child has lost something. Many times we do not realize we lost something till we need it. With the weather changing the students may not realize they lost a snow pants, sweatshirt, coat or pair of gloves. Lost & Found Every year the school lost and found contains many personal

items of clothing & many other items that are never claimed. These items will be donated to

a local charity on June 1st.

Please go through the lost and found to see if your child has lost

something. Many times we do not realize we lost something till we

Help Wanted For Next Years Lunch Room!

Looking for a few good people; Moms, Dads, Grandparents, or older siblings….

The children Kg thru 4th grade need your help opening gogurts, juice boxes, syrup and anything else their little hands cannot open for lunch! They also need a couple more eyes on the playground to watch over their silliness!

If you are a kind hearted, easy going, and fun person who wants to get to know your children's friends, and you are free between 10:30-12:00 Monday-Friday just one day

not all five, I have a job for you! If you talk fancy to us, we would probably make it a once-a-month commitment for you.

Lunch Parents are needed!! The pay is priceless, memories that will last a lifetime and the joy you will bring to the teachers. With you being there, they can enjoy their lunch with other adults.

Vision and hearing screening will be done on August 27th & 28th, 2018, as mandated, for the following children:

Vision: Preschool, Kindergar ten 2nd, 8th, all new students and students receiv-ing special education services.

Hearing: Preschool, Kindergar ten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, all new students and students receiving special education services.

Re-screening will be done on September 7th, 2018.

Vision screening is not a substitute for a complete eye and vision evaluation by an eye doctor. Your child is not required to undergo this vision screening if an optometrist or ophthalmologist has completed an signed a report form indicating that an examination has been administered within the previous 12 months and that evaluation is on file at the school. Vision and hearing screenings are not an option. If a vision or hearing examination report is not on file at the school for your child, then your child in the mandated age/grade/group will be screened.

Zion Lutheran Church - Jr. High Youth Group We are having our End of School Party on Sunday, May 27th at 4:00-6:00 PM. If you are in 5th grader going into 6th grade you are welcome to join us.

Summer Meals Summer Meals are beginning soon! Free breakfast and lunch is once again being served this summer. Meal times are; Breakfast 8-9 AM and lunch is from 11:30-1:00 PM. This is open to everyone in the

community. We are specially encouraging all children to attend. This program is funded and sponsored by the USDA and the ISBE. Join us beginning June 4th.

All outstanding lunch fees must be paid by Friday, May 25th.

K-7 Graders: Positive balances can be carried over to next year, refunded, or donated to someone in need.

8th Graders: Positive balances can be refunded, transferred to sibling, or donated to someone in need.

(8th Graders: negative balances must be current before your diploma will be signed.)

If we do not hear from you by May 26th your lunch balance will be rolled over for next year

Lunch Accounts

School Physicals These are required for those entering preschool for the 1st time, Kindergarten, and grade 6 prior to the first day of school (grade 6 regular physicals can also be used as the required sports physicals), and those involved in grades 5-8 sports programs.

DENTAL is needed by Kindergar ten, 2nd, and 6th by May 15, 2018, with the exam done within the 18 months prior.

EYE EXAM is required for those enter ing Kindergarten or enrolling in for the first time in public, private or parochial schools. This must be done by October 15th of the current school year each year.

FORMS are available in the school office or /at zionschool.net.

Medicines All medicines which have been kept in the school office for students must be picked up by a parent no later than Friday, May 26th.

ANY MEDICINES LEFT AFTER THAT DATE WILL BE DISCARDED.

Tuition Assistance

Applications

Applications for tuition assistance for the 2018-2019 school year are available on our website and in the school office.

All paperwork for assistance must be returned to the principal by June 1st. Any questions, please contact the school office.

Lenny Zwieg Needs A Kidney!

Lenny is a father of 3 and son-in-law to Sherry Roberts from here at Zion. Lenny is searching for a kidney donor

(Blood Type O) due to IGA Nephropathy and kidney failure.

To support the Lenny and his family in their quest to find a donor and to help with medical costs, a T-shirt fundraiser has been started.

2018 JR. DRUMLINE SUMMER CAMP!

What: JR. DRUMLINE

Where: St. John’s Lutheran Church, 6821 Main Street,

Union (in the pavilion)

Who: Boys & Girls entering 2nd - 6th grade

Why: WHY NOT?!? WHO DOESN’T LOVE DRUMS?!?

A GREAT way for kids to get a FUN START in music!

When: 8 classes, each Wednesday at 11am-12noon.

NOTE: *The week of Independence Day, class will be on

TUESDAY INSTEAD OF WEDNESDAY!*

Dates: June 6, 13, 20, 27 and July *3rd*, 11, 18, and 25.

Cost: $5 per class to pay their experienced drumming instructors. Bring a water bottle. Drumsticks are provided. We will split

into two levels; beginners and advanced, with separate instructors the first day of camp. Note: we have secured an instructor for our advanced group that will work with

students that are ready to be practicing more difficult skills and become more proficient in difficult drum patterns.

Northern Illinois University's Continuing and Professional Education is excited to highlight some great opportunities for middle and high school students at our 2018 Academic Summer Camps.

2018 Residential Academic Camps for students entering grades 9, 10, 11, or 12: Creative Writing Camp, June 17-22, 2018 Develop skills in poetry, fiction, and creative non-fiction. Learn to give and accept constructive criticism. Week includes free-writing, guided writing, and revision strategies. NTC News Broadcast Camp, June 17-22, 2018 Put together a live newscast! Campers will learn news writing, camera operation, control room skills, and get on-camera experience. Camp culminates with campers creating their own live-to-tape 15-minute newscast. Film Camp, June 24-29, 2018 Work with experienced media producers, camera operators, and directors while learning about digital filmmaking from script to screen. *New Spanish Immersion Camp, June 24-29, 2018 Through this 24/7 immersion environment, campers are exposed to the language and culture of the Spanish-speaking world. Speech and Debate Camp, July 8-13, 2018 Develop and enhance knowledge in a specific area of speech by selecting or writing speeches, honing research skills, memorizing pieces and practicing the art of delivery and/or debate. This camp is for students interested in being on a forensics/debate team or are already part of a forensics/debate team. *New College Writing Camp, July 8-13, 2018 Learn effective strategies for navigating academic writing expectations at the collegiate level. Campers will learn to communicate clearly and persuasively and then practice these skills by drafting college admission essays. *New Podcast and Radio Camp, July 15-20, 2018 Explore the history of broadcasting, train in recording and production techniques, and learn how to write for the ear. Camp includes producing a live mu-sic show. *New Comedy Writing and Performance Camp, July 15-20, 2018 Explore your creative passions and hone your comedic voice.
