Addictive Illness Workshop on Saturday, November 10, 2012, (9:30
a.m.-4:00 p.m.), given by staff
members from Guest House. Guest House is an organization
dedicated to the treatment of Catholic
priests, deacons, brothers, seminarians and women religious who
suffer from alcoholism, chemical
dependencies and other addictions including food and gambling.

For 23 years Catholics across our country have been
overwhelmingly generous in helping support
retired religious. They have donated more than $671 million to
help religious institutes care for their senior
members. It would be reasonable then to think that this
financial need has been met. It has NOT! The
annual Retirement Fund for Religious Appeal continues to be as
vital and urgently needed as the year it
began—1987.
Let some numbers present the case:
There are more than 34,000 religious past age 70. In 2011 the
average annual cost of care was
over $37,000 per person.
In 2011 alone, the total cost to support senior religious
exceeded $1.1 billion.
By 2022, retired religious are projected to outnumber
wage-earning religious by nearly four to
one.
The average annual Social Security benefit for religious is
approximately $4,800---roughly one-third the amount received by the
average U.S. beneficiary.
This past spring and summer we witnessed a compelling display of
support and gratitude for what our
lives of service mean to thousands of people across the U.S. and
the world. Therefore, we need not be
shy about sharing our current retirement needs and concerns with
them. Their hearts are open and
willing.
December 8/9, 2012 is the weekend for the Retirement Fund for
Religious Collection in most parishes.
Be the ―FACE‖ of this appeal/collection however you may choose.

AN ENTHUSIASTIC BEGINNING FOR THE 2012-2013 CAVA, CHICAGO
ARCHDIOCESAN VOCATION ASSOCIATION MINISTRY YEAR
By the grace of God’s abundance over eighty vocation ministers
for consecrated life are registered mem-bers of CAVA for the
2012-2013 ministry year. On September 5, forty+ CAVA members
gathered at the Felician Convent here in Chicago to participate in
the CAVA Opening General Meeting. The group prayed together,
networked with each other, familiarized themselves with the CAVA
committees’ work and shared a good amount of time in round table
discussions on various topics of best practices in vocation
ministry. Committed to nurturing a culture of vocations in the
Church through education, invitation, mentoring and experience,
CAVA is already receiving requests from parishes, schools,
universities, colleges and young adult groups for presenting
various vocation awareness programs. If your congregation, serving
in the Archdiocese of Chicago, desires to be a part of this vibrant
