Public Notification

• Schools operating SSO must provide public notification regarding availability of school meals and eligibility criteria at or near the beginning of the school year.

• Schools should notify households that all meals will be offered free through SSO.

Virtual Schools

• FNS regulations define a "school" as operating in a building. Therefore, schools that do not normally operate in a school building do not meet the definition of a school for this program.

• Virtual and non-enrolled children could receive meals at an open SSO site through parent/guardian pick-up meal service.
