JULY CLOSE OUT SALE
For the second time this season two players sold the same day
KANSAS CITY – Kan. – The Kansas City T-Bones announced today that the contract of right-handed pitcher Brian
Ellington has been purchased by the Seattle Mariners, and infielder/outfielder Jordan George has had his contract
purchased by the Kansas City Royals. It is the second time this season a pair of T-Bones contracts have been sold on the
same day. On June 1st, LHP Eric Stout (Cincinnati) and RHP John Lenik (Boston) had their contracts purchased on the
same day. Ellington and George become the 49th and 50th players sold overall since 2002 and the 19th and 20th since
opening day 2018.
Brian Ellington joined the T-Bones on July 2nd and made an immediate impact in the bull pen. The right-handed flame
thrower has topped out at triple digits with regularity on the radar gun and had allowed just one earned run in his time
with KC. Ellington allowed six hits in 12 games and recorded two holds and a save in his last four outings with the club.
He leaves with a 0.60 ERA with 15 strike outs in 15 relief innings. He worked an inning of relief in T-Bones Manager Joe
Calfapietra’s 1,000th win on July 29th at St. Paul, earning his sixth hold in his final game in a T-Bones jersey. Ellington
finished his stay in KCK with 10 straight scoreless innings with one save and a total of six holds.
The native of Gainesville, Florida was the 16th round pick by the Miami Marlins in 2012 out of the University of West
Florida and would climb their system, eventually reaching the Big Leagues in 2015, making his debut on August 3, 2015
against the New York Mets. From 2015-2017 he would make 97 appearances in the Major Leagues for the Marlins,
posting a 7-4 record with a 4.65 ERA in 102.2 innings with 98 strike outs.
After six years with the Marlins organization, Ellington was released in April of 2018 and signed with the Arizona
Diamondbacks as a free agent. He made it as high as Double-A with the D-Backs before being released in July of 2018
and signing as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox in February 2019. He split time earlier in 2019 with the Red Sox AA
team in Portland (Eastern League) and AAA Pawtucket (International League) before he was released on June 26. He
would have a combined 2-0 record and a 3.32 ERA at both stops for the Red Sox. For his career he is 25-11 with a 3.97
ERA and 442 strike outs over 406 professional innings.

Sox high A club at Winston-Salem (Carolina League). He would hit .213 in 48 games with the Dash with three home runs
and 19 RBI. George hails from Blytheville, Arkansas and was a standout at Arkansas State University. He was 35 th round

George began his career with rookie level Bristol in 2015 and would reach AA Altoona in 2018. With the Curve he would
play a career high 110 games in 2018 hitting .263 with five home runs and 43 RBI. Overall in five seasons he has a career
.282 average with 20 homers and 170 RBI in 343 minor league games. George appeared in one game with Kansas City,

ANOTHER RED SOX FARMHAND COMES TO KCK
7/31/19 By: Luke Schrock
Kansas City, Kan. – Prior to today’s game the Kansas City T-Bones sign Hunter Smith who formerly played
with the Boston Red Sox Adv. A Salem Red Sox before KCK.
Hunter Smith played for Division I Mid-major Gardner-Webb University in 2013 and 2014 before transferring
to UNC-Greensboro to finish his collegiate career. Smith posted an NCAA career 4.27 ERA before he was
drafted in 2016 by the Boston Red Sox in the 24th round.
Smith played with former T-Bone Keith Curcio, that was with the T-Bones 2018 championship roster, at class
Double-A Portland Sea Dogs and class Adv. A Salem Red Sox. While in Portland he was on the team as Red
Sox standout Dustin Pedroia was on assignment before his contemplation of retiring from baseball due to the
injury to his calf and knee in the slide into second from now San Diego Padre Manny Machado.
He bounced back and forth from Salem to Portland a couple times since 2018 and had battled injury on a few accounts. The first was back in 2018 on June 16, then on July 1. Both were only 7-day listings. In 2019, Smith was put on the 7-day IL on April 4th and April 13th.
Smith had a short tenure for Double-A Portland as he only pitched one game that resulted in a 3 inning save.
With Adv. A Salem he sports a 5.87 ERA, 51strikeouts and a WHIP of 1.70.
Hunter Smith was released from the Salem Red Sox on July 26th of this year and will sign with the Kansas City

Sadler Drives in Three as T-Bones End Three-Game Skid
07/31/2010
Ray Sadler capped off a three-RBI performance with a tie-breaking, solo home run in the top of the eighth inning to lead the Kansas City T-Bones (40-24) to a 5-3 win over the Rockford RiverHawks Saturday night at Road Ranger Stadium. The win snaps a three-game losing streak for Kansas City, their longest of the season.
Jacob Blackwood gave Kansas City a quick 1-0 lead against Mike Wood (1-5) in the first inning with a solo home run, his 18th of the season. Sadler doubled home a run two innings later to push the score to 2-0 before adding Kansas City’s third run of the night with an RBI groundout in the fifth.
Kevin Light, making his first professional start in the contest, held Rockford scoreless through four innings before Jono Brooks singled to begin the fifth and later scored on a groundout by Jason James. Light finished the fifth but surrendered a single and a double to begin the sixth before leaving in favor of Erik Hamren. Ian Church greeted the T-Bones reliever with an RBI single before a sacrifice fly from Jake Eigsti tied the game at three.
Light was charged with three runs on seven hits over five-plus innings in his starting debut. He did not factor into the decision.
Hamren completed the sixth inning for Kansas City, retiring each of the next two batters following Eigsti’s sacrifice fly. Hamren, Kyle Heim, and Casey Hodges (1-0) combined to post a perfect seventh for the T-Bones, and Hodges stayed in the game to add a scoreless eighth. Hodges earned the victory after holding Rockford to just one hit over one and one-thirds scoreless frames.
Sadler’s blast to begin the eighth broke the 3-3 tie for Kansas City. The next batter, Jim Fasano, then singled to chase Wood from the contest. The single extended Fasano’s hit streak to 21 games, the longest in the league this season.
Wood suffered the loss after allowing four runs on 11 hits over seven-plus innings. Drew Shetrone, signed prior to the game, threw a scoreless ninth to earn the save.
Fasano walked in each of his first three plate appearances before extending his streak in the eighth. He walked again in the ninth to tie the Northern League record for walks in a game at four. He is the fourth T-Bone since 2003, and second this season, to walk four times in a contest.
MEET THE T-BONES STARTING PITCHER
Tommy Collier returns to KCK after a stellar season in 2018. The Houston native was terrific all season long and came up big for the T-Bones in the American Association playoffs. Collier
tossed seven innings in the first-round division series clincher in a 4-2 win over Sioux City at Lewis and Clark Park in Iowa. He scattered four hits and allowed just one earned run to help
push the T-Bones on to the championship series. Collier was not able to pitch the first two games at St. Paul in the league finals, but when the series shifted to Kansas City and his turn
came up five days later, he again delivered. He hurled eight innings, giving up three earned runs in a 7-3 T-Bones win to take a 2-1 series lead over the Saints. He would go 2-0 in the post
season and give up four earned runs in 15 innings with 11 strike outs. The right-hander would twice earn Rawlings Pitcher of the Month honors in June and July and would put up an
impressive streak over the course of his last 15 starts of the regular season. In all 15 starts, from June 18th until August 30th, Kansas City went 15-0 as a team in Collier’s 15 starts. He
would pick up 11 wins on his record, and in the other four starts, he would throw four more quality starts of three earned runs or fewer in at least six innings. In his other start in that stretch,
he went five innings with six punch outs in another T-Bones win. For the season, the former Detroit Tigers farm hand would go 12-3 with 140 strike outs in 133 innings of work. He issued
just 22 walks in 20 starts with a 3.11 ERA. Combined for the regular and post season Collier would post a 14-4 record in 156 innings with 160 strike outs. Collier would throw 16 quality
starts out of 23 turns in the rotation. He pitched at least six innings in 21 of his last 22 starts for the T-Bones. Collier also won eight of his 10 road starts, and the T-Bones won all 10 of his
starts away from T-Bones Stadium, including game five of the American Association Division Series where he was the winner. Collier finished second in the American Association in
innings pitched in 2018, and his 12 wins tied for the league lead. His 140 strike outs led the Association, and Collier owns the record for the most in a single season by a T-Bones pitcher.
He would break the old record of 139 that Johnathan Krysa reached in 2004. The 12 wins was the fourth highest total for a single season in franchise history. Tommy Collier, joined the T-
Bones after spending 2011-2016 with the Detroit Tigers organization and reaching AA Erie in 2016, posting a career 41-37 record and a 3.88 ERA in 650 innings with Detroit. Collier has
pitched in the Venezuela Winter League for La Guaira in 2016-2017 and 2017-2018, pitching in 64 innings with a 4.22 ERA over the two combined seasons. This past winter, he played in
the Mexican Winter League for Obregon, going 2-4 with a 5.32 ERA. Collier was the 22nd round pick of the Tigers in the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft out of San Jacinto College in
Houston, Texas. He went 4-1 with a 1.85 ERA in his rookie season with Connecticut in the New York/Penn League in 2011. In 2012 he made the jump to low A West Michigan, going 9-8,
and he led all the starters on the club with a 2.74 ERA in 24 starting nods. In 2013, 2014 and 2015, Collier split time between High A Lakeland and AA Erie and spent 2013 in the
prestigious Arizona Fall League with Mesa. Collier combined for a 4.43 ERA in 67 innings in 2013 in, and in 2014, he tossed 133 innings with a 5.75 ERA for Detroit. The right-hander went
7-8 in 2015 with a 3.70 ERA in 155.2 innings combined at both stops. At AA Erie in 2016, the Houston, Texas native won a career high nine games in 25 starts with 130.2 innings with a
4.20 ERA. Collier led the SeaWolves in wins and innings pitched that season, adding 87 strike outs. In 2008, Collier was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers out of high school in the 29th
round of the MLB Draft from Cypress-Fairbanks High School in Cypress, Texas. He was then drafted in the 49th round by Toronto in 2009 while at San Jacinto College, but he did not sign.
