JAFFNA MUSLIM ASSOCIATION 2013:
Assalamualaikum dear brothers and sisters...
Thank you for helping JMA in the past year! Our organisation strives to better itself year after year,
in order for us to progress as a charity and a community- this year we have had a significant increase
in the amount of projects we went ahead with, some of them traditional ones such as Fitra and
Qurbani, and others new.
Some of our projects this year include:
We held our first Annual General Meeting (AGM) this year, which
consisted of a gathering of JMA members, in addition to members
of our community to share and take interest in information
regarding JMA, its history and Jaffna Muslims.
In our annual Fitra project we reached a total amount of £3000,
masha’allah, which is fantastic as this is the highest amount we
have ever received for Fitra. The amount collected together by our
members has helped provide Fitra packages for 620 families in Sri
Lanka. The areas it was distributed to include: Nachikuda,
Killinoichi, Mullathivu, Vavuniya, Puttalam, Thillayadi,
Sathamiyaprum, Umarabad (A muham), Athumuham, Nuraicholai,
Pananthurai, Palavathurai and Malwana.
We raised a total of £2100 for Qurbani which was distributed in:
Nachikuda, Killinoichi, Puttalam, Mullathivu, Mankumppan and
Nainathivu- (70 shares were distributed, one share was £30.00).
Jaffna Muslim Association has been very focused on individual
cases this year, especially regarding children and medical
assistance.
We sponsored a boy in Mullathivu to build necessary bathroom
facilities costing Rs/= 50,000, as well as donating a tricycle to him
in order to improve his medical condition. In Puttalam we gave
Rs/= 50,000 to children with special needs. A young girl who
needed a wheelchair for several months was given one costing
Rs/= 30,000. In Colombo, JMA gave Rs/= 50,000 to an elderly man
with children in need of medical help, as well as helping a brother
in Pananthurai with kidney failure by giving him one lakh for his
medical needs- there are also many other medical cases not
mentioned here due to the sheer number of individual cases we’ve
helped with and to respect their privacy.
The growth of our Jaffna Muslim
community is something we
promote- this year, not only
have we focused on the growth
of our community but we have
tried to establish a relationship
with the entire Jaffna
community through the
donation of six wheelchairs to
Jaffna Hospital. It was also
published in the Uthayan paper.
JMA promotes sustainable living and community
events, therefore throughout 2013, our charity
engaged in acts such as donating a painting
machine for a brother in Puttalam, donating a water
pump, costing Rs/= 50,000 for a Masjid in
Nachikuda and holding a community Iftar. Thank
you to our kind donors for making this possible.
Our Annual Eid Gathering also took place this year,
in which we had many events such as the
president’s speech, the children’s programme, our
financial summary and the history of JMA.
It was wonderful to see the talents the children in
our community had to share with us all.
Plans for 2014:
We are striving to build a better
community in the future, so please
lend us your support again in 2014,
as we will be running many
projects... Here are a select few:
Helping the Elderly
Helping children with
disabilities
Helping orphans
Helping sports clubs
Assisting with emergency
medical help
Helping with the education of
children
Please like and share our ‘Jaffna
Muslim Association UK’ Facebook

and news regarding our community!
Jazakallah Khair,
JMA TEAM
