ing after-wards, it was defi-nitely an evening that will be talked about for years to come! Thank you and congratulations to our hard-working Dinner Dance Committee led by Sheila Jackson and Mareta Prill. Thank you to the many spon-sors and donors who made it a successful event!! Next in our calendar is the Holiday Folk Fair on Nov. 16-18 at the State Fair Grounds. We have the Youth Dance Troupe and the Munting Tinig as performers this year. We have story-tellers featuring Philip-pine folklore and literature at our cultural booth, and Philippine acces-sories at the Bazaar. And of course, our favorite Filipino dishes at the food booth. Check out the interactive booth by FANHS too! Thank you to all who have signed up as volunteers both during the fair itself and the Food Prep on Nov. 10-11 at the Marian Center. On Dec. 8, Saturday, is our Christmas Party "Lunch with Santa" at Mt. Mary College. Mark your calendars! A New Year's Eve ball is being planned by the PNA so watch out for the announcement. I cannot thank you enough for the support that you have given FAAWIS this year! It is heartwarming to see people care so passion-ately about each event, and volunteer their precious time and energy. It is through your commitment and dedication that FAAWIS continues to thrive and grow. God bless you all !!

encounters between March and August 2012. The medical services including medications and laboratory testing during that same time period amounted to $144,440.00 worth of services. Records dating from the clinic’s October 2000 opening through August 2012 are even more impressive. The clinic has offered free care to a total of 2,832 patients and rendered $1,589,780.00 of services during it’s twelve year

history. Doctors, nurses and lay volunteers are essential to the clinic’s success. Interested volunteers may contact Dr. Violeta Singson for details. Lastly, the annual scholarship program is supported by this event. Interested students may contact Dr. Jaz-min Parcon for details. Continuing now with the dinner dance, the evening began with a complimentary photo session courtesy of Mr. Joel Singson. Guests visited the exhibit area where twelve pharmaceutical company representa-tives were available to answer questions about their displays.

Children helped distribute raffle prizes during dinner to ten lucky winners. Enter-tainment began with the Dancing Medics and

Friends’ delightful presen-tation of “Rigodon de Honor” followed by “Atin Cu Pung Singsing”. Docs

Gone Wild danced a lively cha-cha to “International Love” by Pitbull. The evening continued with dancing to music by Chase Five Studio. PMA-W President Dr. Juanito Singson expressed his gratitude to all of the guests, sponsors, exhibitors, patrons and donors for their support.

The Officers and Board Members of FAAWIS 2012

Message from the President by Jo Anne Dacudao Capitan

With the cold air blowing in and the golden leaves of autumn reminding us that another year is passing by so quickly, we look back at 2012 and all that FAAWIS has done. So far, I must say, what a wonderful and memorable year it has been !! Our picnic last June was well-attended and showcased our new home at Zablocki Park. Kudos to our Picnic Committee led by Leo Vi-tangcol and Ferdie Ramos, and our hard-

working committee members. Also, a big thank you to the different organizations who supported us - PCCCF, PNA-WI, UPAAW, USTAAW, PMA-W, FANHS, PAMANA and the Milwaukee County Parks Management. It's always wonderful to see everyone come to-gether and have fun at the same time. Last month was our 40th Annual Dinner Dance and it was absolutely a night to remember! PMA-W 2012 Dinner Dance by Linda Ravelo

T he Philippine Medical Association of Wisconsin held its annual fund-raiser on Saturday, May 12 at Westmoor Country Club in

Brookfield, Wisconsin. The Rizal MacArthur Memorial Founda-tion/PMA-W Medical Mission in the Philippines and the Free Medical Clinic at Zablocki Park in Greenfield, Wisconsin will receive most of the proceeds. A brief history of this year’s mission trip shows the vital work made possible by this fund-raiser. The humanitarian medical missions served a hospital in Urbiztondo, Pangasinan and a medical clinic in Lubas, Pangasinan by providing medical, surgical, dental and eye care. The surgical team spent a week in Leyte where they p e r f o r m e d surgeries at the Tacloban City Hospital. A smaller group spent two days in Kalibo, Aklan where they did nine major cases. The 2012 trip included 40 additional nurses, volunteers and members of the Association of Philippine Physi-cians in America under the leadership of Dr. Jeremias Vinluan. The APPA served a week in Payatas, the greater Manila garbage dumpsite, and in Angat, Bulacan before joining the Wisconsin RMMF team. Al-though U.S. pharmaceutical companies donate supplies, most of the medications are currently being bought in the Philippines. It has also become increasingly difficult for the mission delegation to clear their supplies through customs. The Free Medical Clinic also receives financial support from this annual event. Moving from the downtown location in March 2012 to its permanent site in the Zablocki Park Pavilion has not deterred the patient clientele from continuing to seek medical care. There were 620 patient

performed once again a Hawaiian hula dance. It was a rewarding and wonderful experience for all of us. PNA-WI also maintains alliances with local nursing organizations. Our president Maria Yumang, has been involved in diversity meetings with the Black Nurses Association of Milwaukee and the Association of Hispanic Nurses of Milwaukee. We took part in the 1st Annual Di-versity Nurses Summit of Greater Milwaukee on May 19, 2012. We are all working together to foster cultural diversity in nursing and promote the welfare of ethnic nurses. We continue to do our community outreach mainly our volunteer work at the PCCF free medical clinic every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month. As of this time, our casino fundraising event is postponed for

next year. We are in partnership with FAAWIS to sponsor the New Year’s Eve party with venue and more details to be posted soon. With edu-cation as one of our goals, our chapter awards scholarship grants to deserving members annually in

the month of December. The Annual General Assembly and Member-ship Drive is coming up on October 6, 2012 from 10 am to 12 pm at the PCCF building, Zablocki Pavilion. I’m extending an invitation to all prospective members, to all nurses, active, inactive, retired or student nurses to attend this affair and learn about our organization. This is a great networking opportunity. For more info, you may go to www.mypnaa.org.

the Sexy Prexys Presidents dance which was choreographed by Dr. Fe Visaya. Twenty past presidents participated in this “first ever” endeavor. As in any function presented by our Filipino community there are so many do-nors and volunteers who make the evening special. This event was no different. Thank you donors for everything you did to make the evening a success. Thanks also go out to the bakers for the great late evening des-serts, Daisy Magracia, Ann Mejias, Amy Schemenauer, Isabel Piana, Jylian and Sheila Jackson, Zen Edralin, Rose Ricks, and Precy Griffin. Thank you to Rose Paro-lanan for the flowers for the presidents, to Sheila Jackson, Jimmy & Yvette Soriano, and Mila Lamerand for the presidential gifts and certificates and to 2012 FAAWIS President, Jo Anne Capitan and Mae Elliott for the centerpieces. To Mina Vitangcol, Remy Lanzaderas and Cream Pepito for the Registration team, to Rowena Punzalan, Amy Schemenauer, Renee Mondano for the small raffle drive. To our grand prize raffle sponsors, Mrs. Roseneni Perez and Mrs. Virgie Vinluan – Dr. Margery Howard thanks you for her new iPad. Mario Ballesteros designed a beautiful keepsake program

with Mareta Prill coordinating the ads placements.

PNA-WI Happenings by Gem Cubos

I t was an eventful summer for the PNA-WI with plenty of happenings that we’re happy to share. We’ve been very mobile and visible this

year in keeping with the success of our PNA Gala event last April. At the annual FAAWIS picnic, we hosted our signature blood pressure screening at our tent as well as a successful siopao fundraising. It was a great time for nurses, and despite the rain, our volleyball team had garnered second place at the tourna-ment. Also at that time, our fundrais-ing for the PNAA/PNAAF 5k run/walk wellness challenge which bene-fits scholarships and health education

was underway as we took t-shirt orders and donations for the cause. PNA-WI along with other chapters of the North Cen-tral Region had raised a total of $7,785.00 for the event that culminated at the national convention on July 14, 2012 at San Antonio, Texas. It was an opportunity for nurses and their families to challenge their physical fitness. On August 18, we kicked off our annual family picnic at the Whitnall Park. It was a time to unwind and enjoy each other’s company. All attendees took part in another fundraising, this time to sup-port the flood victims of the NCR in the Philippines as part of our outreach initiatives with the KEPF ( Kababayan Emer-gency Preparedness Fund) of the Philippine Nurses Associa-tion of America. “Dancing nurses” has also been linked to PNA-WI recently. And with the events we participated into, you can say that nurses know a thing or two about fun. We had been invited at the APPA Welcome Night themed Hawaiian on July 26 at the Hyatt Regency Milwaukee. Our colorful and exotic performance helped put on a show for the host, PMA Wisconsin. Then at the FAAWIS dinner dance, September 8, we

Free Medical Volunteer,

Bryan Beaumont, will be honored

at the upcoming “Doc Roc” event to be held in November at the Grace Center in Mil-waukee. “Doc Roc” is a fund raising event sponsored by the Free & Community Clinic Collaborative which we refer to as FC3. The PCCCF’s Free Medical Clinic is a part of this collaborative and our center has been host to several of their monthly meetings. Bryan was selected as the VOLUN-TEER representative for the event based on

his submitted essay. He will be highlighted in the evenings program on the big screen via a filmed presentation. Bryan has been a volunteer at FMC for over a year. He serves a major role in registering our patients, recording our medication distri-bution and assisting the patient traffic flow on clinic days. He also worked on the demolition crew at Zablocki. Bryan is currently apply-ing for admission to medical school. Congratulations Bryan, we are proud of the fact that you will be representing PCCCF’s Free Medical Clinic at this upcoming event. Bubble Gum Guy By Cody Tilistyak

There once was a bubble gum guy.

He fell off a cliff that was high.

So what did he do?

He used the gum goo,

And blew a bubble that would fly.

Our annual picnic on June 16 at Zablocki park was a huge success with a good turnout despite a brief rain shower. There was lots of food, (including the very popular free popcorn and cotton candy!) Everyone enjoyed the talent show with performances from our adorable chil-dren's choir, to youth performers, to the more seasoned per-formers in our community and neighboring Chicago. Miss Teen Wisconsin 2012 Briana Yamat who is from Milwau-kee, graced our picnic and said a few inspiring words. Thank you to everyone who came and most especially, a big THANK YOU to everyone who helped make it happen!
