Annual Audit CompletedAuditors from the accounting firm of Eide Bailly,

CPA in South Dakota were at the Calhoun County REC office in July conducting the annual audit. While they were here, the auditors reviewed all accounting practices and procedures, which Calhoun County REC follows. The books were examined to ensure that what was being recorded as expenses, depreciation, margins and assets were correct and in place. Physical inventory in the warehouse, which included poles, wire, etc., were counted and tracked to see that it was being properly managed. Everything was found to be in very good condition. A complete audit report will be distributed to the Board of Directors at a future board meeting. 11C27FA

Spot Your number

* Location numbers are located on billing statements. *

Clarice O’Tool and Ricky Sievers spotted their location numbers. Sara & Ross Renze missed missed their opportunity to receive a $10 electric bill credit.

Don’t forget to read the newsletter and check for your location number. If your location number is spotted, call Calhoun County REC by the 15th of the month and receive a $10 credit on your next electric bill.

HELP US SERVE YOU BETTERIf you have multiple locations with the REC, it is important that you

have the location number of the specific place you are calling about. It is especially important when reporting an outage, so that our linemen can go to the correct location and respond in a timely manner.

Gabe and Faith Blaskovich won the recipe of the month in the July issue of Living With Energy Magazine for their Norwegian Almond Torte.

Iowa’s Electric Cooperatives Thank Governor Reynolds for Supporting Energy Bill That Promotes Affordability

Iowa’s Electric Cooperatives thank the Iowa Legislature for passing Senate File 2311, and we applaud Governor Kim Reynolds for signing the legislation into law on May 4. The legislation includes several sections that are beneficial to cooperative members, especially with regard to rate affordability. Providing robust energy efficiency programs and services has long been the foundation of Iowa’s electric cooperatives’ commitment to environmental stewardship. Over the past 10 years, the Iowa Association of Electric Cooperatives has invested more than $120 million in energy efficiency measures, saving at least 6 billion kilowatt-hours. 04C34IB

The bill signed into law by Governor Reynolds does not lessen our commitment to energy efficiency. Instead, SF 2311 provides much-needed regulatory parity and clarity for electric cooperatives. The newly signed legislation will ensure our energy efficiency programs are cost-effective— meaning that cooperative members aren’t footing the bill for a program that isn’t financially responsible. The legislation also eliminates time-consuming and duplicative reporting to the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB). It will require the IUB to consider existing federal regulations before establishing similar state mandates. This will save cooperative employees valuable time and resources, which will be directed toward further serving our members. Many of the provisions in SF 2311 allow rural Iowans to be treated just like those who are served by a municipal utility. Governor Reynolds’ signature on this bill means electric cooperative members will have the opportunity for rate stabilization and energy affordability well into the future.

Safety – Your REC’s Top PriorityCalhoun County REC has once

again earned the distinction of receiving the Rural Electric Safety Accreditation Certification Award after an intensive review by the Rural Electric Safety Accreditation Program (RESAP), sponsored by the National Rural Electric Cooperative Association (NRECA). “The safety of our members and our employees is our top priority,” said Calhoun County REC’s CEO Rox Carisch. “We want our members to be aware of the hazards of power lines and the dangers associated with electricity. We also want our employees to return home safe and sound to their families at the end of every workday!” “Many hours were spent to achieve this accreditation, it is a very high honor and speaks well of our staff, our programs and our commitment to a safe work environment.” said Mike Terwilliger, Line Superintendent.

“Everybody at the cooperative helps with the process. Our employees maintain compli-ance with safety regulations, which makes it a lot easier to achieve

accreditation and to complete the long accreditation process.” The accreditation process, which is based on a three year review period, has three parts. Each cooperative must compile and submit an application, representing a collaborative record of its safety policies and procedures. Then, IAEC conducts an on-site field observation to evaluate the physical aspects of the cooperative. Last, the RESAP Committee reviews and grades the applications. “There are many benefits to being accredited,” said Rob Peterson, Office Manager/Accountant. “Not only can we be assured our cooperative is operating as safely as possible, accreditation saves the cooperative, and therefore its members, annually on insurance premiums. But, most importantly, staying in compliance with RESAP regulations helps prevent accidents.
