2 General information

General informationBecause further installation steps are required before the operation of theon-load tap-changer/de-energized tap-changer, sufficient corrosion protec-tion cannot be provided at certain interfaces to the transformer when the de-vice leaves the factory.

The sealing surfaces on the piping connection flange are zinc-plated ex fac-tory. The through-holes are zinc-plated and partially painted.
The contact surface of the on-load tap-changer/de-energized tap-changerhead is primed ex factory. The through-holes are primed and partially paint-ed.
The transformer manufacturer is responsible for the design of the matingsurfaces on the transformer and piping and that of the screw connectionsneeded for these attachments.1. Provide suitable sealing to prevent electrolytes from entering sealing
surfaces and holes.2. Design screws, washers, nuts etc. in A4 in accordance with ISO
3506-1/ISO 3506-2 standard.3. If the painted surfaces are damaged, note repair instructions. These can
be requested from Maschinenfabrik Reinhausen GmbH's TechnicalService department.
Other points requiring particular attention with regard to corrosion protectionare explained in the following chapter.

Installation informationAlways perform installation in accordance with the instructions provided. Forthe offshore design, also note the following information:1. Use the lifting straps provided to unpack and for transport by crane.2. During installation take particular care to avoid damaging the painted
coating.3. Use the provided washers in the correct sequence as shown below
when screwing the the de-energized tap-changer head to the mountingflange.

4. Do not allow attachment elements to damage the painted surface of theon-load tap-changer/de-energized tap-changer.

5. NOTICE! After drying of the de-energized tap-changer, control the tight-ening torque of the bolt connections as shown in the following drawing.Failure to do so may result in leaks due to the offshore paint.

6. Before applying a protective coating to cut edges and joins, clean theseareas as described below.
7. NOTICE! Correctly prepare surfaces. Otherwise premature corrosionmay occur, resulting in damage. Never use concentrated isopropanol,spirits (ethanol) or similar substances for cleaning.
8. Remove substances which reduce adhesion, e.g. dirt, dust, grease orloose objects by sanding with nylon or Perlon fleece and pre-clean thesurface by blowing with dry air.
9. Then clean the surface with a 25% solution of ethanol in water.10. Before coating, ensure that the treated surfaces are totally dry.11. Apply suitable corrosion protection to cut edges of the drive shaft's pro-
tective cover.12. Seal joins after installation, e.g. by painting over them.

4 Maintenance

MaintenanceWe generally recommend having maintenance carried out by our TechnicalService.
If maintenance is not carried out by our Technical Service department,please ensure that the personnel who carry out the maintenance are trainedby MR or are otherwise suitably qualified to carry out the work.
Undertaking maintenance work
WARNING Danger of death and severe injury from electrical voltage!An energized transformer and energized on-load tap-changer componentscould cause death or serious injuries during maintenance work! Adherenceto the following safety precautions is mandatory:► Switch off transformer on high and low-voltage side.► Lock transformer to prevent unintentional restart.► Make sure everything is de-energized.► Visibly connect all transformer terminals to ground (grounding leads,
grounding disconnectors) and short circuit them.► Cover or cordon off adjacent energized parts.
WARNING Danger of death or severe injury due to unintentional startingup!The motor-drive unit may be started by accident if the supply voltage isswitched on. Unintentional starting may result in serious injuries duringmaintenance work.► Before starting maintenance work, switch off the upstream isolating de-
vice and thereby fully de-energize the motor-drive unit.► Lock isolating device to prevent unintentional restart.► Make sure everything is de-energized.► Prevent manual actuation by shutting away the hand crank.
Perform the maintenance work described below once a year:1. Maintenance of all the drive shaft's lubrication points. You will find the
lubrication points in the installation description in the instructions you re-ceived with the product.
2. Check the upper gear unit and bevel gear for seal integrity and damage.3. Check the seal integrity of the air-vent valve on the on-load tap-changer
head cover/de-energized tap-changer head.4. Check the seals on the protective housing of the manual drive/motor-
drive unit/: Door seal, cable bushings, ventilation.5. Check the coating of the on-load tap-changer/de-energized tap-changer
head, attachments, and accessories.

Touch up all points where the paint is damaged in accordance with the re-pair instructions. These are available from Maschinenfabrik ReinhausenGmbH's Technical Service department on request.
