Satisfying the naval appetiteThe land on which Officers Gardens sits was formerly known
as the Weevil Depot and later renamed more elegantly, after
the Duke of Clarence in 1828.
Royal Clarence Yard was a victualling dockyard from the
eighteenth century supplying food and clothing for the Navy.
Royal Clarence was to become one of the world’s first large
scale food processing plants, supplying fresh water, beer, grain,
meat, cheese, butter and rum.
Due to its industrious bakery, almost all Royal Navy hardtack
during Queen Victoria’s reign was made at the Royal Clarence
Victualing Yard. These simple crackers or biscuits were stamped
with the Queen’s mark and the number of the oven in which
they were baked. Biscuits remained an important part of the
Royal Navy sailor’s diet until the introduction of canned foods.
Preserved beef in tins was officially introduced to the Royal
Navy rations in 1847.
Royal Clarence Yard was later used by Queen Victoria when
visiting Osborne House, her summer residence, on the Isle of
Wight. The royal train would stop at the dockside to allow the
Queen to transfer directly to her boat.
A proud naval heritagePor tsmouth has been at the centre of the UK’s militar y shipbuilding industr y for over 800 years. The city was given its first royal char ter by King Richard I but grew as a naval base during the reign of Henry VIIand then by his successor Henry VIII, who is regarded as the founder of the modern British navy. The area is still home to almost two-thirds of the Royal Navy’s surface ships.

Dedicated to buildingbetter homesSentera was founded in 2010 with a simple vision: to build homes that we would be
proud to live in ourselves. We have been determined to constantly build a better quality
product for our customers, through understanding what our customers required from us
as a progressive builder and the will to never compromise on this instinct.
We are a fast growing, dynamic company, not hindered or shy about questioning traditional
building materials or practices. This freedom makes way for new ideas, new technology
and ultimately new and improved living spaces.
We are very conscious of sustainability and the environment, about doing things in a way
that meets the needs of people today and into the future. The way we treat the
environment is important to every single person on Earth, protecting not only our home
living spaces, but also nature spaces around us. The health and wellbeing of individuals and
mankind globally, is reflected in how we build and nurture our environments for future life;
for Sentera that is building homes that do not adversely impact on the world energy or
resource balances. Our developments are "designed for life", embracing the meaning of
sustainability within the framework of our design and technical build philosophy, constantly
finding ways of minimising the energy footprint of our homes, maximising insulation against
heat, cold, and sound whilst providing naturally well balanced interiors.
Our company’s moral compass is our bond to our customers, and this promise is integral
to every facet of our business, forged through: Creativity, Passion, Trust and Harmony.
