PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
As the year and my term as your President comes to a close, I’d like to thank everyone that has made 2016 such a successful year for the Ohio Chapter! Thank you to all of the volunteers that helped make our 39th Annual Economic Seminar such a strong event. Through the efforts of the Chapter’s leadership planning team that handles the preparations, the terrific insight provided by the speakers, and the incredible generosity of our sponsors, this year’s Economic Seminar was one of the nation’s premier Chapter-hosted appraisal events for the Appraisal Institute. It was an awesome sight to see the response when I asked for a show of hands from all of the attendees who have been coming to the event for more than 20 years! We’ve accomplished a lot over the course of 2016! Just a few highlights:
In addition to the Economic Seminar, we’ve had over a dozen educational offerings all over the State with the help of your Ohio Chapter Education Committee.
The Chapter has continued to help candidates work through the designation process with 15 Ohio Chapter professionals achieving one of the AI’s prestigious designations.
The Chapter has focused on diversifying the slate of volunteers in order to better represent the broad diversity of the appraisal professionals in Ohio. This includes establishing the Amy Kuhn Memorial Scholarship (read more about this on page 8).
Your leadership team and, in particular, your Public Relations Committee has redesigned both the Chapter Newsletter and the Ohio Chapter’s website in order to make them as informative, efficient and functional as possible.
We’ve partnered with the Ohio Coalition of Appraisal Professionals (OCAP) in an effort to expand the communication between the memberships of both appraisal organizations.
We’ve placed a significant emphasis on getting appraisers back to communicating with one another by sponsoring many different social gatherings. Some of these include social events after the USPAP offerings, four Chapter Business Meetings, and monthly networking events as a sponsor of the Joint Association Happy Hour. I encourage everyone to get out from behind their desks and attend one of these social gatherings!
With all that we’ve accomplished in 2016, I know that 2017 will be an even bigger year for the Ohio Chapter. Your Chapter leadership is working hard with the Appraisal Institute on both a National and Regional level to find new ways to better and more efficiently serve our members here in Ohio. Finally, a very special thank you to all of the Ohio Chapter professionals! Whether you’ve been coming to the Economic Seminar for 20+ years or if you’ve just joined the Appraisal Institute for the first time in 2016, it’s the commitment shown by YOU, the Chapter professionals, which continues to make the Ohio Chapter of the Appraisal Institute the outstanding organization that it is. Thank you everyone for working with me and your Chapter leadership to make the appraisal profession a little bit better tomorrow than it was yesterday! Thank you all! Robert J. Vodinelic, MAI

PRESIDENT ELECT’S MESSAGE
It is a privilege and honor to be serving the members of the Ohio Chapter in 2017. I will work very hard for the chapter professionals on issues such as education and member engagement. My top priority is assuring educational courses are never canceled due to low attendance. I think it will be a great year for the Ohio Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. I thank Rob Vodinelic, MAI, for his hard work as President in 2016, and look forward to working with the leadership group in 2017. Sincerely, Joe Zavac, MAI 2017 Ohio Chapter President

ANNOUNCEMENTS: INAUGURAL AMY K. KUHN, MAI SCHOLARSHIP
In 2016 the Ohio Chapter of the Appraisal Institute lost Ms. Amy K.
Kuhn, MAI, one of its most accomplished members. Among a pleth-
ora of achievements, Ms. Kuhn has the distinction of being the sec-
ond female designated member of the Appraisal Institute in the
state of Ohio.
In honor of Ms. Kuhn’s memory and the legacy she left in the Ohio
appraisal community, the Ohio Chapter of the Appraisal Institute is
proud to announce the inception of the Inaugural Amy K. Kuhn,
MAI Memorial Scholarship. Details regarding the scholarship and
application process will be found on the Ohio Chapter’s website as
they become available.
Below is an excerpt from Ms. Kuhn’s obituary that briefly discusses
her many professional accomplishments and contributions to the
appraisal community and to the community at large:
“[Amy S. Kuhn, MAI] became the Vice President at Huntington National Bank where she was responsible for a
$550 million commercial real estate portfolio. Amy left Huntington Bank to start Amy Kuhn, M.A.I. Appraisal
Company. In 1993 she obtained her Juris Doctorate from Capital University Law School and was admitted to the
Ohio Bar in May 1994. Amy next was tapped to work for the City of Columbus on major development projects,
eventually being appointed Special Assistant to the Mayor. She continued serving in the public sector employ-
ment as Deputy Director of Community Development for the State of Ohio, administering over $600 million in
grants, and coordinating special projects and a series of summits for the Governor to establish the state's eco-
nomic development strategy. She then continued her career in the private sector in various real estate develop-
ment projects and practiced law as a zoning attorney until her retirement. Over the years she gave much time
and service to various organizations. At the time of her death, Amy was on the Board of Trustees of Methodist
Elder Care, Board of Trustees of Ohio Statewide Development Corporation, a Founding member and former
president of the Columbus Commercial Real Estate Women, member of TWIG of Nationwide Children's Hospital,
and member of Worthington United Methodist Church. Formerly, she had served as President and Treasurer of
the service organization Altrusa Club of Columbus, member of the Columbus Bar Association Ethics Committee,
Board Member of the YWCA and President of the YWCA Housing Corporation, which oversaw the extensive
renovation of their building in downtown Columbus. In 1997 Amy received the prestigious YWCA Women of
Achievement award.”
