What is a control chart? The control charts help toidenfy “out of control” increases,decreases, or trends for a measure in agiven me period. The mean rate iscalculated for the overall me period and isrepresented in black. The quarterly rate isdisplayed in green. Finally, two and threestandard deviaons above and below themean rate are included as upper and lowerbounds which adjust according to the size ofthe quarterly denominators.

The control charts help toidenfy “out of control” increases,decreases, or trends for a measure in agiven me period. The mean rate iscalculated for the overall me period and isrepresented in black. The quarterly rate isdisplayed in green. Finally, two and threestandard deviaons above and below themean rate are included as upper and lowerbounds which adjust according to the size ofthe quarterly denominators.

Note: Two and three standard deviaonswere set to zero if the values were less thanzero (i.e., a negave value).
