Ohio Society Daughters of the American Revolution Dear Ohio Daughters, The snow is melting and bare ground is beginning to appear! What a relief after our record breaking snowfall for 2010. Let's hope that when we gather for the State Confer- ence in April, the scene will be bright, green grass and leafy trees. Reservations for State Conference have been arriving at record speed this year. It appears that we will have a very large turn out. We are working on getting more rooms added to the DAR block of rooms! This will be a wonderful showing for our President General's visit as well as our DAR School executives and guest speak- ers. We are most fortunate that Linda Gist Calvin, President General, will be our guest this year and will be the Opening Night speaker. As most of you know, while attending the February National DAR Board meeting we were caught in a blizzard that paralyzed most of Washington, D. C. This made for several schedule changes with most of the ladies hav- ing to spend more days in Washing- ton, D. C. than planned. We did have our trip to the National Cathedral but the Pentagon trip was canceled. Our board meeting was moved from Con- stitution Hall to the Marriott as we could not travel back and forth. Business was conducted as usual. It was reported that from, Decem- ber 10, 2009 -February 6, 2010, 1823 application papers were verified, and 443 Junior members approved with the last DAR national number issued being 880462.. Let's keep sending those ap- plication papers as new members will ensure the future of NSDAR and will enrich our Chapters. Remember, if your regent has served six years and for certain reasons she must continue serv- ing in that position, she must be granted an exception from NSDAR National Board to continue. through the State Regent and if she feels the request is warranted she reports the request to National where the request is then voted on at National Board Meeting. This is not done without careful consideration as we try to place more members in leadership roles. But, sometimes this is not possible so special action is taken to insure the future of a chapter. State Conference promises to be fun filled and very exciting where you can meet new friends and renew old acquaintances. Marshall Karesh of Convention Photography will be with us again this year to take pictures throughout the conference. Plan to have pictures of your chapter attendees taken and notify Marshall at con-ference so he can arrange a convenient time to take your group. I look forward to seeing each and every one of you. By working together we can preserve the legacy of our patriot ancestors who gave so much for this country. Let us be United in all our DAR activities showing our support for God, Home and Country. Psalm 121:5-6: “The Lord is your keeper, The Lord is your shade at your right hand. The sun shall not strike you by day, nor the moon by night.” This past month, Ohio Daughters have endured challenging and at times, vio-lent weather conditions. These are inconveniences, but still quite challenging. Our day by day situations, plus uncertain economic climate and other personal problems can become overwhelming. To quote an ancient Chinese curse, ’May you live in interesting times.”. This is the time to take comfort in the Old Testament Psalm, when the Lord reminds us that is indeed our keeper. These words of wisdom are pertinent and a reminder of His constant presence in our lives. He is defi-nitely our keeper, as he neither slumbers nor sleeps. We are indeed fortunate to have a Judeo-Christian heri-tage in a country that practices tolerance, not religious dictatorship. Psalm 121:2 “My help comes from the Lord, Who made heaven and earth.” Let us pray: “ Lord, we give thanks to you for your eternal presence in our lives, no matter what our circum-stances may be. Continue to be with us, encourage us, strengthen us and remain with us, especially in trying situations. Grant us wisdom to follow your teachings and live lives dedicated to God, Home and Country. In the name of our Savior, Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen

Dear State and Chapter Regents: We are sending this email to inform you that print publication of the National Defender will be discontinued ef-fective June 30, 2010. Beginning in July 2010, a monthly National Defense message will be posted on the DAR Members’ Web Site (http://members.dar.org) to be read at monthly chapter meetings. Rising postal costs and new sizing regulations of the U.S. Postal Service along with a reduction in the number of paid subscriptions make continued publication and mailing of the National Defender cost prohibitive. Chapter Regents are asked to please share this announcement with all members so they will know to look for the monthly message beginning July 2010. Thank you, NSDAR Headquarters

Easter Bonnet Parade

At Saturday evening's banquet we will have a parade for those wearing HATS while the kazoo band provides the background music. This is a Fun time so any hat of any period will be "In Style". Dig deep into your mother/grandmother's trunk or wear your Easter bonnet. Let us honor those Daughters of bygone years who always wore hats and gloves.

The Nathaniel Massie Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution held their February meeting in the Chilli-cothe Room at Traditions. Three 25 year membership certificates and a red rose were awarded to Donna Ebert (February 1984), Connie Barnes (June 1984) and Catherine Evanoff (December 1984). Sue Gearhart received a 40 year (April 1969) membership certificate and red rose. New member Betty Rowland was sworn in to the NSDAR by Chaplin Joyce Andrews. A very informative program of the National Society DAR Library in Washington D.C. was viewed by the members. Members brought items to ship to a son of a member stationed in Iraq. Also, members brought white cotton crew socks to the meeting for the state-wide veterans’ project..
