MTD Starts Moving KJO Stock into the New Central Warehouse

On November 23rd 2017, and in the presence of EDB Abdulrauf

Allarakia, A/MMT Eng. Nabeel Al-Najrani, Project Manager and In-charge of New Warehouse, Saeed Al-Zahrani, and Project Manager and In-charge of Old Warehouse, Ashraf Bahbahani, MTD started moving the materials from the various warehouses and storage areas in KJO premises into the New Central Warehouse, which was designed to be an integral central warehouse for MTD, with a greater capacity to accommodate the increasing demand on various categories of materials, and meeting the latest storage technical standards. A restructuring and re-organization process was made for the New Warehouse and for the teams participating in moving, receiving, handing over and keeping the stock, as per the best international standards and criteria. In this occasion, Al-Najrani opened the event, welcomed the attendees and highlighted the agenda of the field visit, starting from the old warehouses, in order to check the readiness of team, under the supervision of Eng. Ashraf Bahbahani, for starting making the transfer orders via the warehouse module in SAP. Thereafter, the materials will be moved into the new warehouses under the supervision of Saeed Al-Zahrani, after ensuring the readiness of the team to receive, check, make inventory and put the materials in the allocated places, as per the strategies configured into SAP system. A plan was prepared well before starting the process of transforming the materials from the various warehouses and storage areas throughout KJO premises into the New Central Warehouse. The structure of the New Warehouse was divided into several divisions, depending on several criteria; including the type of warehouses,

type of stored materials, size, nature, hazards and other factors. There are also sections within each warehouse as per the movement of the stock (Quick and slow), and there are various types of storage shelves, with various heights and load capacities. The withdrawal of materials is arranged according to the expiry dates and the release of materials as per the order date (First in - First out), with a special mechanism to deal with the hazardous materials; such as gases and chemicals, as well as many other mechanisms for inventory and managing the stock. There were many challenges that were analyzed and overcome by operating SAP warehouse management system; including, but not limited to: • Increasing demand on materials. • Manual selection of storage places. • Having many manual procedures. • Not having an effective strategy for storage and release of materials. • Not having an effective mechanism to know the expiry date for some materials; just like the chemicals.

All processes of managing the warehouses were automated to ensure limited human intervention, so that the system can deal with the increasing demand automatically, meet work requirements quickly and make inventory with more transparency, up to the expectations of the shareholders in Khafji Joint Operations. The warehouses are operated and managed by 3rd part logistic provider (3PL); (Which is Agility Company). The 3PL manages and follows up the daily operations and bears the full responsibility, in terms of the value, quantity and condition of the stock, as well as managing all risks related to managing the warehouses and materials, together with applying the best criteria and safety procedures. Moreover, 3PL assumes the logistic activities fully, and shall manage and develop the same in integration with the supply chain of MTD and Khafji Joint Operations. The responsibility of 3PL for managing the warehouses include, but not limited to, helping the

suppliers to obtain access permission to the Central Warehouse, receive the goods from the suppliers, make technical inspection for the materials, compare the details with the indexes of materials, ensure the quantity is identical with the demand, check packing and storage, make search and regular follow up for the movement of the stock, evaluate the status and safety of stock, follow up the validity of the stock and expiry dates, handing over and delivery to the end beneficiaries within Khafji Joint Operations, as well as the other services such as following up the life

cycle of the materials from reaching to KJO until transformed into scrap, as per the authorities, factors and procedures applicable in Khafji Joint Operations. The event highlighted SAP Warehouse Management System, which was recently developed and executed for the first time in KJO, and will be operated and used for managing the stock in the New Central Warehouse, together with the new procedures which were customized and developed as per the requirements and demand of Khafji Joint Operations. The new workscope was also highlighted; particularly, the contract will be fully managed based on an integrated logical set of KPIs in order to follow up and measure work progress throughout all stages; starting from the moment of delivering the materials by the suppliers, until receiving the same in the warehouse, and up to handing over to the proponents. This will enable MTD to focus on the quality of work, outputs, and regular evaluation to ultimately ensure improving performance. The team held a meeting to discuss work progress, the challenges and the method of dealing with the same. At the end of the visit, EDB Abdulrauf Allarakia extended his appreciation and thanks to the project team for their distinguished performance and dedication for executing the project and achieving its objectives. In this regard, Eng. Nabeel Al-Najrani stated that the project consumed huge efforts and closed coordination between MTD, ITD and the execution company. All of them deserve deep appreciation for their dedication and hard work, and for overcoming several circumstances and challenges.

A potential danger posed by the discharge of static electricity at gasoline stations includes starting a fire. Follow these safety guidelines to avoid refueling fires at gasoline stations: • Turn off your vehicle engine before refueling.• Do not smoke, like matches, use lighters or other open ignition

source while refueling gasoline is flammable and ignite easily.• Avoid using or answering cell phones while refueling. Always place

the container on the ground first.• Never fill a portable container when it is in or the vehicle.• Use only approved portable container for transporting or sorting

gasoline. Make sure the container is in stable position.• Use gasoline as a motor fuel only. Never use gasoline to wash your

hand or as cleaning solevent.• Take these precautions while refueling your vehicle to avoid

explosions.

• Many fraud cases occur while traveling. Learn how to protect yourself while away from home.• The rise of the Internet and storing personal information online have made it easier for hackers to access your sensitive information. • After an identity theft, the negative impacts on your finances and security could last for years. As people continue to store more of their personal information online, identity theft has become a crime on the rise. And that risk becomes even greater when

traveling. In 2016, more than 15 million Americans were victims of identity theft, up 16 percent from the previous year, according to Experian, a global information services group. About 33 percent of that fraud took place when people were traveling. The fear is present for Americans, with 84 percent acknowledging their concern about the security of personal information online. Yet they apparently haven›t taken the necessary precautions. To that point, nearly 64 percent of those polled said it›s too

much of a hassle to constantly worry about securing their online information, according to a survey by Experian. The survey was conducted in March by Edelman Berland on Experian›s behalf, and polled 1,000 U.S. adults online. The rise of the Internet has only aided hackers in their quest for your personal information, said Michael Bruemmer, vice president of consumer protection at Experian.«Your information, once it›s out there on the Internet, it›s out there,» said Bruemmer. «You can›t grab it back.

«Unlike the days of a physical piece of paper where, unless it was copied, you could get that physical piece of paper back, now, once you hit send or enter on your keyboard, it›s gone,» he added. «We leave a digital footprint everywhere we go.»Avoid using public WiFiPublic WiFi makes it easy for thieves to hack into the information stored on your mobile phone or laptop, according to the report. Yet less than half (47 percent) of respondents avoid using public WiFi when traveling.«We never recommend using

public WiFi, and of course you›re given free public WiFi in most hotels,» Bruemmer said. «So people say ‹OK, so if I shouldn›t use public WiFi, how can I check my transactions like my bank statement or my credit card statement?›»Instead of using public Wi-Fi, get a portable router to set up your own WiFi hotspot, the report advised. To do this, you›ll need a local SIM data card, which you can purchase at an electronic store or an airport kiosk.Password-protect phones and add tracking tools

China is suspending the production of more than 500 car models and model versions that do not meet its fuel economy standards, several automakers confirmed Tuesday, the latest move by Beijing to reduce emissions in the world’s largest auto market and take the lead in battling climate change. The government-affiliated China Vehicle Technology Service Center said that the suspension, effective Jan. 1, would affect both domestic carmakers and foreign joint ventures. The move was expected to affect a small share of car manufacturing in China, where 28 million vehicles were produced in 2016. China has dozens of small-scale automakers — some producing just a few hundred cars a year — and the central government has tried to consolidate its auto industry, a factor that most likely also played a role in the suspension. Model versions — for example, different combinations of an engine and transmission — are constantly being deregistered.Cui Dongshu, the secretary general of the China Passenger Car Association, said that the ban would affect at most 1 percent of

the Chinese market. But the government’s decision to cite fuel economy in the deregistration of so many versions at the same time is nonetheless a signal of the government’s commitment to fuel economy. The country, which for years prioritized economic growth over environmental protection and now produces more than a quarter of the world’s human-caused greenhouse gases, has emerged as an unlikely bastion of climate action after President Trump’s rejection of the Paris climate agreement.Chinese leaders are under intense pressure to rein in dangerous air pollution, a hot-button issue in China, where thick smog has at times forced schools and businesses to temporarily shut down. Late last month, China said it was going ahead with plans to create the world’s largest carbon market, giving Chinese power companies a financial incentive to operate more cleanly.“They’re sending a signal to everybody — that this is for real,” said Michael Dunne, president of Dunne Automotive, a Hong Kong-based consultancy on China’s clean car market. “This shows their emissions standards have teeth.”The Chinese government has already become the world’s biggest supporter of electric cars, offering automakers numerous incentives for producing so-called new energy vehicles. Those incentives are set to decrease by 2020, to be replaced by quotas for the number of clean cars automakers must sell. That has spurred global automakers to pick up the pace in their shift toward battery-powered cars.

Recognizing how important Corporate social responsibility is to their customers, many companies now focus on and practice a few broad categories of CSR:1. Environmental efforts: One primary focus of corporate social responsibility is the environment. Businesses regardless of size have a large carbon footprint. Any steps they can take to reduce those footprints are considered both good for the company and society as a whole.2. Philanthropy: Businesses can also practice social responsibility by donating money, products or services to social causes. Larger companies tend to have a lot of resources that can benefit charities and local community programs.3. Ethical labor practices: By treating employees fairly and ethically, companies can also demonstrate their corporate social responsibility. This is especially true of businesses that operate in international locations with labor laws that differ from those in the United States.4. Volunteering: Attending volunteer events says a lot about a company›s sincerity. By doing good deeds without expecting anything in return, companies are able to express their concern for specific issues and support for certain organizations.

Your phone stores sensitive information, such as access to your emails, and possibly even credit card information (if you use Apple Wallet or bank apps.) Only 48 percent of respondents password-protect their smartphones, making it easy for thieves to access that information. Also, only 26 percent have a tracking device set up in case their phones get stolen, the report said. Not only should you set up a password to unlock your device, but you should create a strong, unique password and change it regularly, the report advised. In addition, enable location tracking and install a wiping software so you can track down your phone or destroy the data on

it if it›s ever stolen. Don›t post location or agenda on social mediaOnly 32 percent of people avoid posting photos or status updates online while traveling, and only 20 percent disable geotagging on pictures, according to the

survey. Sharing your agenda or location on social media allows potential thieves to keep track of where you are, making it easier for them to time a crime. Instead, wait to post about your trip until you get home, the report said.Bring only what you need;

lock up what you doOnly bring a passport with you if you›re traveling abroad, and always avoid bringing your Social Security card or birth certificate with you, the report advised. Also, don›t bring all of your credit and debit cards; choose instead to carry only a select few.If you do bring sensitive documents with you on your trip, lock them up in a hotel safe or other secure location, Bruemmer said.Monitor credit cards and reportsMonitoring bank and credit card accounts (58 percent), as well as credit reports (55 percent), was seen as helpful in detecting suspicious activity. Yet 53 percent of respondents say monitoring

financial transactions is challenging, and 81 percent trust banks and credit card companies to catch fraud for them. However, you must rely on yourself to catch a thief by constantly monitoring your accounts. If people think monitoring their accounts is normally a challenge, it›s an even bigger challenge away from home, Bruemmer said, «When people are traveling … you›re out of your normal environment or routine,» he said. «And it just makes things a little bit harder even with a smartphone…to check some of your online accounts.» www.cnbc.com/-7/24/07/2017tips-

Newly described stretches of super-silenced DNA reveal a fresh approach to reprogram cell identity to use in regenerative medicine studies and one day in the clinic, according to a study in Molecular Cell last week by investigators from the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.«In the past, most labs, including my own, used gene activators to turn on a new program to change the identity in a given cell,» said senior author Ken Zaret, PhD, director of the Penn Institute for Regenerative Medicine and a professor of Cell and Developmental Biology. «Our study shows that in some cases we will need to disassemble a cell›s gene repression machinery to activate important genes to reprogram a cell›s identity.»The team attempted to reprogram skin cells to make new liver cells. Conversions of one cell type to another usually have low efficiencies, and this study identifies one reason why. The long term goal of this preclinical research is to be able to replenish diseased liver tissue with healthy tissue derived from a different tissue, such as skin cells, from the same individual in a process called direct-cell reprogrammingThe Zaret lab untangled an extreme form of gene silencing, opening up regions of tightly wound DNA that is difficult for activators to reach to turn on certain genes. They found the regions by characterizing an increase in chemical cross-linking due to DNA being more compacted in the scaffolding of repressed regions of chromosomes«Think of a piece of fishing line that has been used for a while, with several knots along its length,» Zaret said. «The knotted areas are more easily cross-linked regions, reflecting them being super-silenced areas of DNA.»For the body to maintain its -200plus different cell types, cells must activate genes specific to their type while simultaneously repressing genes of alternative types. Most genes in silenced DNA regions (not available to be «read» and made into a protein) are typically functions not used by the current cell type. Zaret likens it to insurance so cells don›t mix up their identity, which could induce problems such as uncontrolled, cancerous cell replications, or so that brain or liver genes are kept from being expressed in skin cells, for example.

The first authors are Justin S. Becker, Ryan L. McCarthy, and Kelsey Kaeding, all from the Zaret lab.

Super-silenced DNA study hints at new ways to reprogram cells (CNN)If you›ve read about the latest wellness

trends, you may have entertained the idea of a diet detox. But whether you›ve considered juicing, fasting or cleansing in an effort to lose weight or improve your well-being, you›re probably aware that drastically cutting out foods is not effective as a long-term lifestyle approach to healthy eating. In fact, strict detoxing can cause issues including fatigue, dizziness and low blood sugar. But there is one kind of sustainable detox that is worthwhile, according to some experts. Reducing sugar in your diet can help you drop pounds, improve your health and even give you more radiant skin. «Sugar makes you fat, ugly and old,» said Brooke Alpert, a registered dietitian and co-author of «The Sugar Detox: Lose the Sugar, Lose the Weight -- Look and Feel Great.» «What we›ve discovered in the last couple of years is that sugar is keeping us overweight. It›s also a leading cause of heart disease; it negatively affects Sugar addictionHere›s more bad news: We can›t stop consuming sugar. «People have a real dependency -- a real addiction to sugar,» Alpert said. «We have sugar, we feel good from it, we get (the feeling of) an upper, and then we crash and need to reach for more.»About %10 of the US population are true sugar addicts, according to Robert Lustig, professor of pediatrics and member of the Institute for Health Policy Studies at the University of California, San Francisco. What›s more, research suggests that sugar induces rewards and cravings that are similar in magnitude to those induced by addictive drugs. One of the biggest concerns is the amount of added sugars in our diets, which are often hidden in foods. Although ice cream cake is an obvious source of sugar, other foods that

may not even taste sweet -- such as salad dressings, tomato sauces and breads -- can be loaded with the white stuff. «People don›t realize that seemingly healthy foods are loaded with sugar -- and so we›re basically eating sugar all day long, from morning till night,» Alpert said. So for the first three days on a sugar detox, Alpert recommends no added sugars -- but also no fruits, no starchy vegetables (such as corn, peas, sweet potatoes and butternut squash), no dairy, no grains and no alcohol. «You›re basically eating protein, vegetables and healthy fats.» For example, breakfast can include three eggs, any style; lunch can include up to 6 ounces of poultry, fish or tofu and a green salad, and dinner is basically a larger version of lunch, though steamed vegetables such as broccoli, kale and spinach can be eaten in place of salad. Snacks include an ounce of nuts and sliced peppers with hummus. Beverages include water, unsweetened tea and black coffee.Once the first three days of the sugar detox are completed, you can add an apple. «By the fourth day, an apple tastes like candy,» Alpert said. «The onions are sweet! Almonds are sweet! Once you take sugar away from your diet cold turkey, your palate recalibrates, and you start tasting natural sugars again.» Starting with day four, you can add one apple and one dairy food each day. Dairy, such as yogurt or cheese, should be full-fat and unsweetened. «Fat, fiber and protein slow the absorption of sugar, so taking out fat from dairy will make you absorb sugar faster,» Alpert said. You can also add some higher-sugar vegetables such as carrots and snow peas, as well as a daily serving of high-fiber crackers.

Researchers have developed a new technique for directly printing metal circuits, creating flexible, stretchable electronics. The technique can use multiple metals and substrates and is compatible with existing manufacturing systems that employ direct printing technologies. «Flexible electronics hold promise for use in many fields, but there are significant manufacturing costs involved -- which poses a challenge in making them practical for commercial use,» says Jingyan Dong, corresponding author of a paper on the work and an associate professor in NC State›s Edward P. Fitts Department of Industrial & Systems Engineering.«Our approach should reduce cost and offer an efficient means of producing circuits with high resolution, making them viable for integrating into commercial devices,» Dong says. The technique uses existing electrohydrodynamic printing technology, which is already used in many manufacturing processes that use functional inks. But instead of ink, Dong›s team uses molten metal alloys with melting points as low as 60 degrees Celsius. The researchers have demonstrated their technique using three different alloys, printing on four different substrates: one glass, one paper and two stretchable polymers.«This is direct printing,» Dong says. «There is no mask, no etching and no molds, making the process much more straightforward.»The researchers tested the resilience of the circuits on a polymer substrate and found that the circuit›s conductivity was unaffected even after being bent 1,000 times. The circuits were still electrically stable even when stretched to 70 percent of tensile strain. The researchers also found that the circuits are capable of «healing» themselves if they are broken by being bent or stretched too far.«Because of the low melting point, you can simply heat the affected area up to around 70 degrees Celsius and the metal flows back together, repairing the relevant damage,» Dong says. The researchers demonstrated the functionality of the printing technique by creating a high-density touch sensor, fitting a -400pixel array into one square centimeter.«We›ve demonstrated the resilience and functionality of our approach, and we›re open to working with the industry sector to implement the technique in manufacturing wearable sensors or other electronic devices,» Dong says.

Never one to be bested, Rolex have announced that they will enter the smartwatch race with an über-luxury product. Their goal is not to play second or third to Apple, the newly announced TAG/Google product, or Frederique Constant’s Horological Smartwatch. Their goal is to leap to the head of the field.Being the, or one of the dominant players in the industry usually means that you don’t have to read your press clippings. It is good to see that the people at Rolex still do. So much has been made of the fact that the new Apple Watch Edition will cost in excess of 10,000$ – placing it squarely in the price bracket occupied by Rolex. Today Rolex announced that they will respond with a titanium version of their Submariner watch: the Sub-Oyster-Tron.The Oyster-Tron will use a digital readout, which will be controlled by the rotating bezel. Proposed features will include: remote keyless entry for your luxury car, near field communication access to point of payment devices in convenience stores around the world, hours, minutes, seconds, day and for the first time ever in a Submariner, date. You will also be able to link the smartwatch to your smart-pen to give second-to-second readouts of ink levels. Other devices such as a proposed smart-letter-opener and smart-stapler will be incorporated into the suite of products called “Smart-Desk”.Rolex press material enthusiastically proclaims: “…the Sub-Oyster-Tron will herald in a new age of desk-diving. From this point on, business people will have to manually check the number of staples in their stapler or the number of centimeters required to open a letter.”
