Wampum belts function as visual memory keepers which represent shared values and agreements between two or more parties. The “Dish with one spoon” Wampum originates
from a treaty between the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee Peoples. The phrase is used to refer to the stewardship of shared territories and hunting grounds (“the dish”) and the
collective responsibility to ensure there is always enough game and fish to eat for all.
