CPSA License

• Licensing Process – Go to www.cpsa.ab.ca– Remember that the CPSA license you have in

residency would be considered a previous registration

– If you do not have a clinic address it may be valuable to have a mailbox so your home information is not on CPSA website

• What is the application for medical registration?– It is a secure, web-based process for applying to

Canadian medical regulatory authorities (MRAs). The application process is accessed through physiciansapply.ca.

Benefits

• What are the benefits of applying to MRAs through physiciansapply.ca?– Applying to multiple jurisdictions will be easier through a simplified,

harmonized electronic system. Once the application process is fully deployed, you will be able to apply to any or all of the 13 provincial/territorial MRAs in Canada electronically from your physiciansapply.ca account instead of having to submit a different one for each jurisdiction.

– The harmonized application process will ensure that credential recognition for all physicians is fair, transparent, timely and consistent.

– Information stored over time in physiciansapply.ca, such as your credentials and exam results, will prepopulate your applications, making them easier and faster to complete.

Medical Staff Appointment – DFM/AHS• Medical staff appointment could take up to 120 days

• Start the process immediately– If you plan to work in a AHS facility – start the process by

March 1, 2015– Send request to Rebecca Clarke – Receive a Determination of Privileges complete and send

back to Rebecca Medical Staff Appointment package will be requested from the Medical Staff office Applicant will receive the application

– If you are going to be able to work in an AHS facility by July 15, 2015 – you MUST do your part

What happens if I do not pass my combined LMCC & CCFP exam?

• If you do not pass your LMCC exam ….– you will not be registered for independent practice in Alberta (you can work in

Saskatchewan• If you pass your LMCC but not your CCFP exam….

– you will be required to obtain a “provisional license” through the CPSA

• Step 1: Contact the CPSA• Step 2: Talk to your residency program director for a letter indicating you have

successfully completed the FM Residency Program• Step 3: Contact Darlene Befus to assist you through the process

– Will assist you to find a sponsor for the 3 month supervision required

(Must work in the same office for the full 3 months)

– Sponsor will be required to submit a letter on your behalf to CPSA indicating willingness to sponsor & fee of up to a $5400 cost for the sponsorship

– Require an AHS letter of support and Darlene will obtain that for you.
