DOWNTOWN OKLAHOMA CITY
UNDER CONSTRUCTIONWorld-Class Convention Center
605 Guest Room Omni Hotel
Oklahoma City continues to thrive with its greatest assets - the people. Beginning in 1993, the people voted on a limited term one-cent sales tax to revitalize downtown with new and upgraded cultural, sports, recreation, entertainment and convention facilities. Since then, and due to the overwhelming success of the project, more initiatives were approved for education and more revitalization of the core. Project 180 advanced to improve downtown's infrastructure and quality of life with public art, landscaping, improved lighting as well as pedestrian/bike friendly streets, sidewalks, parks and plazas. More recently as part of MAPS3, a modern transit system connects the vibrant districts in and around the downtown Oklahoma City area.
Also part of MAPS 3, Scissortail Park, a 70-acre urban oasis ex-tending from the core of downtown to the shore of the Okla-homa River, many amenities include a café and sports facilities to nature trails, with the Skydance Bridge as the connector of the north and south sides of the park. A $575 million complex, the Downtown Convention Center and Omni Hotel is set to open, debt free in 2020 and expected to attract a large amount of events and tourism to the Oklahoma City core.
As the core continues to grow through systematic improvements, a connectivity between public and private has emerged, creat-ing a collaborate spirt and innovative energy that continues to grow. First National Center is currently under redevelopment and will provide new housing, hotel rooms, parking garage and retail space including Oklahoma's first Ruth's Chris Steakhouse. The activity downtown has spurred housing developers to bring the total units to 4,500 and has attributed to the vibancy and surge felt through out the city center. Live, work and play has never been easier.
