Today’s Assignments

Agree on a Vision and Mission for the SHSP

• What is the overall purpose and intent of the SHSP?

• How do we achieve our Vision?

Agree on SHSP Goals

• What are quantifiable performance measures that can be used to assess progress and success of the SHSP?

Agree on SHSP Emphasis Areas

• What are the primary traffic safety problem areas that should be addressed through the SHSP?

SHSP Vision and Mission Statement

Proposed Vision Statement

• “Provide and promote the safest surface transportation system for all travelers – zero deaths, zero injuries.”

Proposed Mission Statement

• “Develop, implement, and evaluate a data-driven, multidisciplinary process to maximize road safety through widespread collaboration and an integrated 4E approach.”

5

SHSP Proposed Goals

Reverse the increasing trend of traffic-related fatalities and injuries upon implementation of the Oklahoma SHSP (toward zero fatalities and injuries)

• Measurable Goals:− Achieve a 20 percent reduction from 774 (2004) lives

lost in traffic-related fatal crashes by 2010

− Achieve a 20 percent reduction from 18,359 (2004) non-fatal traffic related incapacitating and non-incapacitating injuries by 2010
