Ashley, how did you and De’Angelo meet?Funny story! Mr. Alvin had always cut my hair and on the day I had an appointment, he wasn’t at the salon. But his nephew, De’Angelo was there, and even though I was nervous since I am very particular about who cuts my hair, he was handsome and nice so…I took a deep breath and let him cut my hair. Afterwards, we talked 5 straight hours. I guess you could say I really liked that haircut (and him)!!

Gorgeous colors for your wedding! How did you choose them?I really don’t have a favorite color but purple has always been a color that stands out for me. I decided on fuchsia and gray accents and I loved the way it turned out. The beautiful flowers

the bridesmaids carried were a gorgeous comple-ment to their dresses.

You have an interesting story about your wedding dress…Yes, it was one of the first gowns that I tried on but I felt I had seen it someplace previously. Even though I continued to try on other dresses, I couldn’t get this particular dress off my mind. Seriously, I couldn’t sleep because I knew I had seen it and I loved it! It finally came to me…my cousin had worn the exact dress at her wedding! I didn’t let this bother me. I bought it and it was the perfect gown for me, too.

Did you have a wedding theme?I would say it was country chic…simple…pretty and airy. We used ivory linens and country flow-ers on the tables. Floating candles. Nice and colorful, but not overdone.

Please tell me about the honorary table. At the reception, De’Angelo and I wanted a table set up to honor those who had passed on. De’Angelo’s great grandmother and my great grandparents as well as a dear friend were honored with their pictures and we lit candles to signify they were missed at our wedding but were there in our hearts.

What were you thinking as you walked down the aisle? The doors opened and I saw De’Angelo and I was so afraid I was going to start crying so I thought “smile really big so you won’t cry!”.

Was there anything you “splurged” on?We had a fabulous buffet that included a carver and a full premium bar. I think this “splurge” was worth the extra expense and I’m glad we did it.

What was the first song you danced to?Closer by Joe

What kind of favors did you have?My Mom made tiny bells with our names and the date on them. Everytime someone rang the bell, we were sup-

posed to kiss each other. It was fun!

What is your favorite memory?Since we didn’t see each other before the ceremony, our photographer, Jenni Woods, suggested that after the ceremony, we go back to a private room and take some time to spend together. This was a great idea. We were able to relax and talk a few minutes, now as husband and wife, before the reception started. It was a very special, private time for us.

I see you have a decorated broom in your photographs. Can you tell me about that? This is an age old tradition among African Americans. Slaves could not be married so they held a “broomstick” ceremony and jumping over the broom symbolized their marriage and “jumping” into a new life together. The bride and groom hold hands as they jump over the broom. Today most couples beautifully decorate the brooms and it becomes a treasured keepsake. We chose to do this to honor and respect our ancestors.

Looks we Love…the flower in Ashley’s hair, the jumping of the broom, beautiful jewelry, spring flowers…

Katie and Jordan

A BLESSED CELEBRATION

RealBride.HerStory

Katie and Jordon met through mutual friends at church and the church has played a important role in their romance and marriage.

Katie choose her wedding colors based on the colors she and Jordon both liked…shades of blue. She added the complementary color of yellow because she says, “it matches my personality”.

Page 24: Oklahoma Wedding Ideas - A Bride's Guide - April 2013

oh! you gir ls!

Katie began making her unbelievable brooch bouquet- with many gorgeous rhinestone and pearl brooches from relatives and friends- but the day came when she had to focus on other aspects of their wedding and her florist, Tony Foss, stepped in to rescue her. What can anyone say? It is not only exquisite, it will be a beloved keepsake forever.

As Katie walked down the aisle, she recalls thinking it was the happiest moment of her life. With so many people who had come to support them - she says “ she felt blessed beyond measure”. Katie’s favorite worship song , Come and Let Your Presence Fill This Place, was playing as she walked down the aisle to meet Jordon and Katie remembers thinking, “Thank you, God. Thank You, thank You.” An unique idea for her bouquet toss was an inspired and fun idea - instead of the traditional bouquet toss, Katie’s flower bouquet held 6 individual tiny bouquets that flew apart as she tossed her bouquet. Katie included all the girls in her bouquet toss and made sure they all received the wedding blessing.

Jordan and Katie left the reception in a very special car with a very special story. A family friend had once sold Russell Westbrook a Porsche Panamera. The friend arranged for the lucky couple to leave the reception in this cool, black luxury Porsche. Both Katie and Jordan were totally surprised and wowed by this awesome car! They had planned to leave in Jordon’s car!

The couple left for a highly anticipated 3 month backpacking tour of Europe for their honeymoon. Wonderful wedding dreams fulfilled!

Looks we Love…spring bouquets, happy smiles, fabulous colors, splashy sunflowers…

You’re getting married and have so many decisions to make. One of the first items on your long list should be reserving a location. Locations and dates go quickly. Don’t be disappointed that your location has already been booked.

Amanda Seitz, event coordinator at Rose Creek Golf Club, feels a country club is an awesome place to have a ceremony and reception because you are able do everything in one place. You are in a beautiful, classy, elegant setting which require basically no extra decorating for your outdoor or indoor wedding. If your wedding is an outdoor ceremony, Rose Creek has a ballroom that will easily accommodate 300 people should you need a Plan “B” due to in inclimate weather.

Whether you have your own specific ideas about planning your own wedding and reception or if you prefer to rely on a wedding coordinator, country club personnel will provide you with invaluable support to transform your ideas into reality. The club staff is knowledgeable, professional, experienced and eager to help - exactly what a busy bride needs.

The event coordinator at Jimmie Austin Golf Club in Norman, Chelsey Franklin, loves the

romantic feel of getting married outdoors in a country club setting. You are surrounded by beautifully manicured lawns and at Jimmie Austin, there is an outdoor pavilion that will accommodate 200 people. The pavilion is attractively lit with sparkling bistro lights and pillar lighting. Plans are being implemented to install heavy curtains at the pavilion in case Mother Nature becomes intrusive.

Most country clubs have rooms for the bride and her party and the groom and his party to prepare for the ceremony in calm and relaxed surroundings. The rooms are generally equipped with couches, mirrors, TV’s, pool tables, bar and food service and are adjacent to a nicely decorated powder room. Again, with a staff to handle any question or problem.

Tim Swann, event coordinator at Cobblestone Creek Country Club, encourages you to “design your own dream” at Cobblestone. They have a beautiful 3 story building complete with high ceilings and a grand staircase. The wedding can be held on one floor and then guests move to another floor for the reception. Tim says, “Cobblestone presents a unique opportunity for the bride to custom build her wedding day and we are there to help her.”

A country club is a total package - indoors or out. The ambiance of a country club is perfect for a wedding and reception. The lush green and colorful display of flowers on the grounds lend themselves to exceptional photo opportunities. If you want a truly memorable wedding venue consider a country club and create your perfect wedding, along with lasting memories.

RealBride.HerStory.

Staci and Chris have known each other for a long time…they were high school sweethearts and finally married in a personal and intimate ceremony at Festivities.

Staci chose a pleasing color palette of jewel tones. Rich eggplant, golds, silvers and bronzes were an especially appealing combination. Echoing the bride’s elegant peau de soie gown, the bridesmaids also wore one shoulder dresses in a lovely bronzed taupe. Tony Foss, their florist, suggested using roses in the bouquets because the bride’s maiden name was Rose. Both the bride and bridesmaids carried mixed bouquets of creamy white roses, lilies, and orchids. Staci’s bouquet was adorned with white feathers and wrapped in her grandmother’s handkerchief and pinned with a memento saying “follow your heart”.

For Staci, the wedding was a family affair. Her Dad and brothers walked her down the aisle to meet Chris at the altar. “If it weren’t for my Mom, I don’t think I could have done it. She was amazing,“ Staci says. Her Mom used burlap for many of the accents to create simple but attractive décor for a rustic country feel. Bottles wrapped in lightweight roping and a Bible wrapped in burlap were warm personal touches. An inexpensive mailbox found a new life when it was spray painted and covered in glitter to hold gifts and cards. An exquisite buffet table held a candy bar that tempted guests with such delights as chocolate covered oreo cookies, pretzels and peanut clusters. One of Staci’s favorite touches was the monogrammed white shirts she gave her bridesmaids to wear while getting ready. Staci’s own shirt had a monogram on the sleeve that said “to have and to hold”.

Staci feels the wedding was just as she envisioned. She adds that “one of my favorite moments was seeing Chris‘s face when he saw me walk down the aisle toward him. The night was a perfect and happy night.“ The couple left on a cruise to St. Thomas and the Bahamas for their honeymoon.

Looks we Love…a feathery bridal bouquet, the clever glittered mailbox for cards…
