REEL MAINTENANCEProper reel maintenance will greatly prolong the useful life of any fishing reel – especially if it is used in a saltwater environment. A few tips: DO’s

Remove any sand or dirt on the reel ■ after use

Wipe with a freshwater dampened ■ cloth, then wipe dry.

Spray or wipe over with a suitable ■ lubricant.

Lubricate with oil, or grease moving ■ parts such as bail hinges, bail roller and handle. DONT’s

Leave covered in saltwater, dirt or sand. ■Hose your reel to clean it as this forces ■

Since their introduction, Okuma reels have gained a reputation of being ideal for the toughest saltwater conditions, the Titus Gold Lever Drag Game Reel is no exception.

Okuma’s TG series are a blend of practical design, corrosion resistant materials and robust construction.

These reels have 5 stainless steel ball bearings (4 in two-speed models), a stainless steel machined pinion gear and main gear, and stainless steel drag washers.

Titus Gold reels have a frame and side plates machined from T-6061 aluminium to permit a very small spool gap. The spool is made from forged aluminium.

The aluminium handle knob is anodised and has a stainless steel handle assembly. The ball bearings are sealed to prevent salt water intrusion and all models are assembled with stainless steel screws.

There are fourteen reels available in the Titus Gold series, including two level wind models and five reels with two-speed gears.

The NEW Cedros star drag reels are a technologically advanced piece of machinery designed with similar ideas and techniques to that of the Okuma Makaira.

The Cedros is constructed of A6061-T6 extruded aluminium in an anodized blue finish with ported cross bars for weight reduction. This incredibly sturdy machined aluminium reel is the new pinnacle in overhead jigging and live baiting.

The multi-disc carbonite caged drag system is capable of outrageous drag pressures allowing smooth release of line whilst the ratcheting star drag ensures drag settings are precisely set all the time. Sufficient internal self-lubricating gear systems are employed to maintain constant heat dissipation and operating temperatures whilst under extreme load.

Charter captains and recreational fishers alike have relied on the proven Titus reels for years, remaining a cornerstone of the Okuma product line. The Titus series, available both in level-wind and non-level-wind models, boasts a lightweight corrosion resistant graphite frame. These hard working durable reels, are smooth and powerful, making them ideal for any number of blue water targets.

Okuma’s Titus overhead reels are constructed from lightweight “Titan” graphite. All feature an aluminium spool, four stainless steel ball bearings and precision cut stainless steel gears.

All ball bearings are sealed and the reel has an additional waterproof seal where the right side plate joins the main body assembly.

Expanded for 2010 this range now presents a reel to suit anything from light bottom bashing to heavy game fishing, offering premium performance without compromise.

From trolling for line burning pelagics in far north QLD, casting the beaches in search of Mulloway and Salmon to bottom fishing for tasty reef delicacies; reliable gear is a MUST. Nothing is tougher, more reliable than or as versatile as the Okuma MagSystem range of high speed star drag reels.

A machined anodized aluminium rigid frame, machined alloy spool and oversized gearing gives this reel the utmost strength and support against hard fighting fish whilst the oversized ergonomic handle ensures the experience is left with a positive feel.

A relative of the MagSystem workhorse, the Okuma MagNetix houses most attributes of its heavy duty brother at a fraction of the cost.

The MagNetix is suited more to casting all day due to its lightweight graphite frame – not as tough as it’s aluminium counterpart however what you lose in strength you make up for in versatility. The reel does possess a machined alloy spool and oversized gearing similar to the MagSystem plus the oversized ergonomic Okuma power handle.

The MagSystem & MagNetix range of reels incorporate Okuma’s new MCCS Magnetic Cast Control System which through the use of a set of intricately designed magnets allows the user to cast their line further without the worry of line tangles or the dreaded ‘bird’s nest’. As line comes off the spool during a cast the magnets increase their attraction to one another in order to maintain constant spool rotation caused by the release of the line. Once the cast is complete and the line stops exiting the spool the magnets cease the spool’s rotation preventing overrun (excess line leaving the spool) ultimately avoiding tangles.

The Magnetic Cast Control System can be adjusted in strength via a dial on the side plate as you become more accustomed to controlling the situation yourself or it can even be completely disabled if you wish to fish in full manual mode. Of corse a cast control knob is affixed to the reel for those who are not willing to explore the technological advances and divert from conventional methods!

You can feel safe when a large fish is screaming off with your bait in free spool knowing that the MagSystem and MagNetix reels feature Okuma’s SLG Speed Loc Pinion Gearing System. This technology incorporates a dual-step pinion gear system that allows positive engagement when moving from free spool to strike at speeds in excess of 50 MPH.

The reels feature 3 stainless steel ball bearings (2 only in the MagNetix) with a quick set anti-reverse roller bearing for smooth use and no back play. Multi-disk Carbonite drag washers apply an even distribution of drag at high pressure whilst the oversized stainless steel gearing system holds force on to your big catch without slipping.

Dual Force Drag System (DFD)

DFD incorporates both surfaces of the spool to maximize high-end drag pressure, efficiency and overall smoothness. Mounted in the top of the spool and protected by the Hydro Block system is a multi-disk felt drag system that works in conjunction with a secondary drag system that is mounted under the spool. Even pressure is applied to both surfaces of the spool for maximum stability.

High Density Gearing (HDG)

Dual Force Drag System(DFD)

DFD incorporates both surfaces of the spool to maximize high-end drag pressure, efficiency and overall smoothness. Mounted in the top of the spool and protected by the Hydro Block system is a multi-disk felt drag system that works in conjunction with a secondary drag system that is mounted under the spool. Even pressure is applied to both surfaces of the spool for maximum stability.

BaitfeederBaitfeeding SystemOkuma’s patented baitfeeding system allows the reel to be disengaged, which lets the angler’s bait run freely. The baitfeeding system incorporates a secondary micro-adjustable drag system at the rear of the reel that allows for precise adjustments to the spool for bait control. To disengage this system, simply turn the handle. The On/Off lever on the rear of the reel will automatically disengage the baitfeeding system so you can fight your fish with the main drag system.

Kayak fishing is the next big thing to hit Australia since the soft plastic revelation and everything from bream to marlin has been caught from a Kayak. The thought of being towed around by a large powerful fish is becoming a reality for a lot of fisherman.

Fishing from a kayak creates a number of issues not normally considered whilst fishing from a boat or pier; the worst few being clearance if a fish decides to bolt to the front of your yak – a nice long blank from 7 to 8 foot is usually required to overcome this. What happens if a large boat creates havoc by throwing a treacherous wake in your direction or you capsize – you drop your expensive rod & reel in the drink never to be seen again? Having researched this, Okuma has developed several features that make the Baidarka rod unique.

The rods are of kayak specific lengths designed for stowage inside of kayaks as well as providing the reach anglers so often desire. All guides are Pac Bay stainless steel, protective coated Tich guides to help reduce the corrosion that comes with being so close to salt water. On the butt of the rod there is a lanyard clip to keep the rod attached to the kayak, and lastly Okuma has developed the ‘BRD’ Buoyant Rod Design – the rod floats... even with a large overhead reel attached!

The blank is a result of Okuma’s “Cross Fusion Blank Technology” which increases the hoop strength therefore improving overall strength. The rods feature specific actions that shut down quickly for improved hook setting & easier “sea level fishability” that kayak fishing requires. The grip configuration is substantially different to conventional fishing methods; the rear grip is shortened effectively keeping the rod close to you in the confined space of a kayak allowing better control, the fore grip is formed of an extended EVA with a recessed channel line to relieve back strain and increase floatation without increasing line friction and chafing.

The range consists of seven rods which have been divided into two 7ft 6in spinning rods, four overhead 7ft 6in rods and one 7ft overhead rod. All rods are of one piece construction and have line ratings ranging from 4-7kg to 7-15kg.
