OLD BIKE AUSTRALASIA : 89 RALLY REPORTS MACQUARIE TOWNS OLD BIKES DOIN’ THE ROUNDS Macquarie Towns Rally 26-27 July, 2014 – Windsor, NSW Rain dance Report and photos Jim Scaysbrook Just as the driest July in Sydney for this century drew to a close, Sod’s Law mandated that it would rain for the keenly-anticipated Macquarie Towns Motorcycle Restoration & Preservation Club’s annual rally. Still, in the 13-year history of the event, this was the first wet one. 149 entrants, down a bit from previous years, gathered for the 9.30am start at the Upper Hawkesbury Power Boat Club on the banks of the Hawkesbury River, as light but steady rain came down. Saturday’s route took riders along the pleasant country roads north as far as Maroota before looping back to the morning tea stop, expertly catered for by the P&C group at Hillside Public School on Cattai Ridge Road. Then it was off to Maraylya Park for lunch and judging, with bikes divided into categories ranging from Pre war to 2004. Dinner and presentation took place at the Windsor RSL, and on Sunday, the keener riders backed up for a shorter run that started from the same spot and finished at the Whitewater Stadium at Penrith. It was a very healthy turnout for the second day, with quite a few who had opted out of Saturday’s drizzle taking advantage of the beautiful winter sunshine. As always, the organisation was excellent, with marshals on every main corner indicating the way.
