Forwarding Service Requested
FROM YOUR PASTOR’S HEART
Here we are once again just a few weeks before Easter. It comes early this year on April 5, and we pray that an early spring comes with it after our recent winter storms. The cold and snow have led to the cancellation of Sunday services for two weeks in a row. I hope, like me, that you are looking forward to our worship together on Sunday, March 1 as we celebrate the Lord’s Supper in morning worship. As we gather around the Lord’s table, we are reminded that just as we are united to Christ, we must also be united to one another in doing the Lord’s work. In March we have several opportunities to unite together in ministry for our Lord.Lenten Worship – On the four Wednesdays of March, we will gather at noon with other churches of our community for our annual Lenten worship services and luncheons. I hope you will join the larger body of Christ in Alderson for these times of worship and fellowship. Clean Up Day – On Saturday, March 28 our House and Grounds Team is planning a clean-up day for our church and grounds. This is a time when the body of Christ can come together to minister to the physical needs of our facilities using a multitude of talents.Easter Cantata – On Sunday, March 29 we will gather as our church choir leads us in worship through music by presenting the cantata “Jesus Saves.”When we gather again around the Lord’s table on Easter Sunday, April 5, may our unity be stronger and our fellowship ever sweeter from the ministry

Valentine Banquet Success – The EACA Committee hosted a Valentine Banquet and silent auction on February 13. The committee members thank everyone who donated food, auction items, and their time to make this event such a tremendous success. The 47 persons in attendance enjoyed a
delicious Italian dinner, were serenaded by our choir members, played fun Valentine games, and took home some wonderful auction items. Congratulations to Ray and Gina Still, the winners of our Married Couples game show. The icing on the cake for the evening was a doubling of our treasury to $5,225.92. Thank you all!

??? Bible Quiz ???Just before the Last Supper (John 13), Jesus took off his outer robe, poured water into a basin and began washing his
diciples’ feet. One disciple, however, protested having the Lord wash his feet. Jesus told the reluctant man that unless he allowed Jesus to wash his feet, he really had no share in Christ’s leadership. The disciple then relented. He said Jesus could wash not only his feet but his hands and head, as well.
Choose the name of this disciple from the list below:A. PeterB. JohnC. AndrewD. Judas
Answer: A (See John 13:1-9.)

We will receive our America for Christ Offering in March with a goal of $1,000.
As we journey through our community, we will see countless people in need of Jesus’ love and healing touch, if we will only open our eyes and hearts. We may wonder what difference we can make in addressing so many needs. Together, we can make a difference by supporting the America for Christ (AFC) Offering 2015.
The AFC theme this year, “Discipleship: A Journey of Grace,” is based on Titus 2:11-13. This theme reminds us that Jesus’ public ministry was all about connecting and caring for people in need. On each day of his journey, the compassion of Jesus was felt by someone somewhere.
In “Meditations of the Heart,” Howard Thurman wrote,
I will lift up mine eyes. Scarcely knowing it, I have become increasingly self-centered, my mind focused upon all the details of my little life and the needless trivialities of a daily routine. I hover over all my little aches and pains, my petty
America for Christ Offering 2015Discipleship: A Journey of Grace
annoyances, my little frustrations . . . . Then out of no place comes sometimes a gentle, sometimes startling reminder and I lift up mine eyes. . . . I will lift up mine eyes to life, that I may read the guideposts along my way and not miss the important turning in the road. I will lift up mine eyes to love, that I may not close the door of my heart to the knocking hand, the tender cry, the anxious reach. I will lift up mine eyes to God, that I may meet His spirit not only in the high place, the great moment, the penetrating call, but also in the byways, the little duties, the stinging irritations and the sad and bottomless renunciations. And for me this is enough.
The outworking of God’s grace will be seen most often during difficult times. God’s grace is being manifested in our lives as we gladly seek to help others carry their burdens. When grace happens we receive not a nice compliment from God but a
new heart. We receive a transformed life that becomes the hands, the feet and the prophetic voice of Jesus Christ in our communities as we connect with people every day. I am asking you to join me in giving generously to this year’s AFC Offering 2015 to help us reach our goal in support of home mission that is making a difference.
