Introduction The SCIS’s year 7’s had gone for a 3 days and 2 nights trip to the

famous historical site Oldupai Gorge. This trip was planned by the St.Constantines history teachers Ms.Kelly Pierce and Mr.Ruphael Manda. People believed that this was a fun trip according to the students. Yes! It ended up being a fun trip and then on Monday morning came the piles and piles of work that’s always there after a trip. The trip was organized by the Sunny Adventure Group.

They had quality food and excellent facilities which kept us safe for each day and night of the trip. Every thing from the tents to the place was clean and nice. St.constantines kept it’s name high as usual. There were a few fights and tears which did not involve any public noticing. More than the tears where loads of smiles which made each day a memorable one. All days began with smiles and giggles . It was really hard falling asleep with your closest friend right next to your pillow. We never knew how the days flew. On the third day at the end was a big bag full of mixed feelings !!!

Day 1Our day 1 started as usual waking up at 6:00 or 6:30 we had to report to school because that’s where this this wonderful trip would begin. We saw our friends and a few chats. We had a few hugs and kisses with some of our seniors and then we started loading our backpacks and luggage into the tour company vehicles labeled 1-5. each one of us could choose where we wanted to go that’s where we were, all in a with lots of crazy things happening. We did not even leave the school gate we just started munching on bars of chocolate and grabbing handfuls of Pringles. All of us started acting like ‘greedy pigs’. By around 8:30 am we were out and away on this wonderful and most exciting trip ever. So on the first day no one of us even dared to talk school!!! We did not miss it at all! There were a lot of people to talk to so no one could even close an eye for a minute.

On the first day we headed to Lake Manyara National Park. Some of us were really really into electronics especially music on phones and iPods. But some took it easy and decided to talk to each other. On the way to Manyara we saw some Maasai’s after their rituals. Other sights also included a giraffe out in the open before a small town called Mto wa Mbu. We also spotted camels just after the Meserani snake park. It took an hour or so but when there are friends around you don’t actually how time goes. We got to Lake Manyara Gates around 10 am. We clicked a few pictures and then went to see the animals.

We got to open our sun-roofs and just stand, relax and breathe the freshest of air. Some of animals we saw included a whole troop of baboons, lizards, red velvet monkeys, zebras, elephants, giraffes, wildebeest and flamingoes. Unfortunately, we did not see the thing Manyara is famous for – the tree climbing lions. At around 1.30 we went to a picnic site for lunch.

After lunch we headed to Lake Manyara and then the hippo pool. We saw the flamingoes at Lake Manyara. The lake has dried up from what it was a few years back. From here we headed t o Twiga Campsite.

Twiga Campsite is located at Mto Wa Mbu. The place is beautiful. We reached there, chose our tent, tent partners, got briefed by our teachers and then went for a swim. Not all of us swam, again some of us were with electronics while others chilled and watched a movie or watched people swim. At the swimming pool, we were playing a silly game of pushing or pulling each other in. It was silly in all ways possible but it was fun. Later after all had a shower, we gathered together and played a game of bull-dog, followed by tea.

There were some more games after tea followed by dinner around 7.30 pm. Dinner was chips, spaghetti and fish. After dinner we changed into our pajamas and went to small place like a restaurant. There were more games there, which helped us to know each other better.

After that we had a little thing called ‘tent time’, where we were allowed to go and meet our friends in their tents. Finally we went to bed. At exactly 3.00 am, it started raining, so we had to close the top layer of our tents. This made insides of the tent very, very hot , but finally we got a bit of sleep.

Day 2 On Day 2, we woke up with smiles. Some people had

good sleep although it was very stuffy in the night. The day began with a shower in the morning, a cup of coffee, breakfast and then we left Twiga Campsite at 8.30 am.

On the second day, we were supposed to go to Oldupai Gorge and camp at Simba A campsite for the night. After leaving Twiga, we had to drive for ‘years’, until we reached Olupai. The sun was burning hot and when we came to a stop finally, we had a brief explanation from a guide named Lazaro. He explained to us, how Oldupai was formed and gave us more information about the 5 geological layers.

Later, we had a one-minute drive from there and reached a rocky place from where we had to walk a meter . There we saw the bones of a Zinj. Then we headed to the shifting sand. We saw the shifting sand and drove back to have lunch.

Lunch was followed by the opportunity to go the book shop and museum which housed the bones. Later, we drove up to Simba A campsite. We got into our tent. In the dining area, there were lots of plug points where some people charged their phones and laptops. We played a game of Frisbee followed by dinner. After that we had a camp fire, where people showed their talents. Ms. Pierce told us camp fire stories till we went to bed.

Day 3 Day 3 morning was freezing cold, so many people

skipped shower. We had breakfast and left for Ngorongoro Crater. There we saw a lion killing a buffalo live, two rhinos, lots of zebras and wilde beests, elephants, a pride of 12 lions, flamingoes, hippos, elephant skull, hyenas and foxes.

We went to the picnic site, which actually is a hippo pond where we saw some hippos. We snacked on some crisps and then drove up to the crater top. We lunched at Simba A and left the crater. Our next stop was Mto Wa Mbu market, where we did some African handicraft and artifacts shopping. We left for our journey back to Arusha and reached our school at around 4 pm. We had a nice trip.
