GETTING STARTED WITH GOOGLE CLASSROOM Instructor: Kim Smith Dates: Saturday, September 16 Times: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Number of Sessions: 1 Location: PBES Library Fee: $15 Have you heard the buzz about Google Classroom, but aren’t quite sure how to get started? If so, this is the class for you! In this 3-hour course, we will explore the features of Google Classroom and discuss different ways to apply it to the learning environment to increase the digital work-flow between students and teachers.

MAKING THE MOST OF GOOGLE CHROME Instructor: Kim Smith Dates: Saturday, September 16 Times: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm Number of Sessions: 1 Location: PBES Library Fee: $15 Google Chrome is the most widely-used web browser to date, especially in education. This course will provide participants with an introduction to Google Chrome that will distinguish its features and capabilities from the rest of Google’s G-Suite apps. We will explore a variety of customization features including bookmarks, apps, and extensions to fully enhance your web-browsing experience.

Whether you are a beginner or a returning student this class is for you. Janice will be available to instruct new students and assist returning students. If you are new to the world of stained glass contact Janice for information on supply ordering and project ideas. BEGINNING PHOTOGRAPHY

Instructors: Darrell Brabec Dates: Wednesdays, October 4 through October 18 Times: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Number of Sessions: 3 Location: CHS Room A62 Fee: $30 Materials: Your camera(s) and manuals as well as a USB cord. Starting out in photography can be a wonderful time, full of creativity and discovery. Unfortunately it can also be frustrating especially if the moments you see through your lens are not captured in your photographs. Let Darrell walk your through basic camera functions using both film and digital images. He will also provide tips and tricks on how to improve those snapshots.

Adult Education is a program designed for persons 16 years of age or older who are not regularly enrolled, full-time pupils. Please note the layout of the brochure which indicates the classes intended for adults and those that are Community Education classes intended for any persons in the community

regardless of age. If you are a student and are interested in an Adult Education class, please inquire.

BEGINNING KNITTING SESSION 1 (SLOUCH HAT) RETURNING ROOKIES

Instructor: Mindy Kohn Dates: Thursdays, September 28 through November 16

Materials Needed: A materials supply list will be available during registration or a basic kit can be purchased from the instructor for $25.

Learn to knit! Knitting warm, comfortable, attractive clothing is calming to the mind and soothing to the spirit. This class covers needles, yarns and basic stitches with lots of time to practice, ask questions and discover the joy of this ancient craft. Mindy will begin by teaching basic skills and when you are done you will have a beautiful hat. Whether you are a first timer or if you were in the beginning knitting class in the fall, but are looking for a fun stress free project you will enjoy this class. If you are a returning rookie and are comfortable with the knit stitch, Mindy will introduce you to the ribbed stitch. and you will create a comfy and stylish ribbed stocking hat. In this class you will create a beautiful and functional ribbed stocking hat while learning the purl stitch.

Felting is addictive, as you will soon discover in this class as you knit up your new favorite pair of shoes! Mindy always enjoys getting complimented on her shoes and watching the shock when people find out she made them! You can opt to knit slippers or shoes with this pattern. Shoes will require that you provide a pair of crocs that you can cut up and use for the soles of your fabulous new shoes.

“WIP”, you know you have it—Work In Progress that we keep procrastinating to finish. Well no more! Find your motivation by setting time aside an hour on Thursdays, just before lunch, for crazy fun with your favorite knitting friends and an instructor who can help you with those pesky problems. Finish the class with a feeling of accomplishment! If you finish your WIP or are so amazing that you don't have one, don't despair, Mindy has plenty of supplies and inspiration to get you started on something fun.

Increase your skills to take your High School Equivalency Exam with this individualized program. You will study the skills that YOU need in a non-threatening environment. Colstrip Public Schools is not a HiSET testing site. This course is a preparation class only. Ann will help guide you to success in completing the Hi-SET test.

STOCK TRADING AND INVESTING

Instructor: Mark Scheidler Dates: Wednesdays, September 20 through October 4 Time: 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm Location: CHS Commons Number of Classes: 3 Fee: $15 Are you interested in online stock trading? You’ll learn to identify high probability trading opportunities. Learn how to place your trades, compound your gains, and monitor your investments as you sit back and enjoy your new passive income stream. Mark will teach you what to look for when evaluating a company, how to read candlestick charts like a pro, and most importantly he’ll teach you money management to protect your gains. No initial investment required. This course is for educational purposes only.

COOKING

SCANDANAVIAN COOKING

Instructor: Joanne Schrupp Dates: Thursdays, November 9 & 16 Time: 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm Location: FBMS Family Consumer Science Kitchen Number of Sessions: 2 Fee: $15 Whether you are Scandinavian by birth or simply LOVE the delicacies, sign up for Joanne’s Scandinavian cooking class where you will learn the art of making these yummy foods. At the end of each class you will take home samples of these delicious treats to share with your family! This year’s Scandinavian cooking classes will feature lefse and cookies.

November 9 will be lefse-making sessions. Whether you’re an old-hand or new to this amazing treat, join us for an evening of rolling & flipping lefse rounds. If you have a lefse griddle, rolling pin, turning stick or a pastry cloth, please bring them.

November 16 will be an evening of making traditional Scandinavian Christmas cookies to start your holiday season out right. At least three different cookies will be made.

THE ART OF MAKING GNOCCHI

Instructor: Cindy Hatten Dates: Saturday, November 18 Time: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm Location: FBMS Family Consumer Science Kitchen Number of Sessions: 1 Fee: $ 15 Who can resist fresh, handmade gnocchi? Those pillow-soft dumplings melt in your mouth and quickly vanish from the plate. In this technique-driven class, Cindy will show you the secrets for creating traditional potato gnocchi. You’ll work alongside classmates learning how to properly roll and cook this classic pasta. Finally, we’ll plate up our gnocchi and enjoy sampling our scrumptious creations.

EXERCISE FOR EDUCATORS

Instructor: Nikki Barret-Melin Dates: Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 19 through December 14 NO CLASS October 19 & 31 and November 9 & 23 Time: 4:15 pm to 5:00 pm Location: PBES Number of Sessions: 22 Fee: $30

Open to all but designed for the educator, this exercise class is conveniently located at the elementary school scheduled around the school employee’s day. Tuesdays and Thursdays class will be a mixture of strength and conditioning moves designed to make the most out of your 45 to 60 minute workout. Not only will you get great total-body conditioning, but you will also burn calories, get moving, and get energized. Nikki will use a variety of exercises including cardio, strength, Pilates and yoga. You will work at your pace and do what your body allows. Expect to take some workouts outdoors when the weather is nice. Come prepared with gym shoes and the proper attire.

EARLY LAP SWIM/SOGGY JOGGING

For the self-motivated and determined person. This early morning swim, in our heated pool, will help get your day started off just right. Work the muscles and joints without the hindrance of gravity. Swim laps, water aerobics, put on the wet vest and jog in the deep end or just float around and enjoy the water. If you don’t have a workout in mind, Tatum can help you get started.

MEMORIES OF COLSTRIP– WITH AN EYE TO THE FUTURE

Instructor(s): Patty Dunn, Becky Miller and many guest speakers and local historians Dates: October 5, October 16, October 23, October 30, November 6 Time: 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm for Monday’s classes 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Saturday morning classes. Location: Various Colstrip locations Number of Sessions: 5 Fee: $15

In this 5 week class you will learn: WHY Colstrip was started, WHAT has sustained it, WHY it is still necessary. We will explore the original town-site on a walk-ing tour, learn about the history of the mine, schools and pow-er plants through the eyes of people who have been in-volved. You will also have an opportunity to tour the facilities yourself. This will be a learning experience in a relaxed atmos-phere. Classes will beheld at the Schoolhouse History and Art Center (SHAC). Saturday tours will begin and end at SHAC. Snacks will be provided.

HEARTSAVER FIRST AID CPR & AED

Instructor: Brandy Watson Dates: December 4 (CPR) & December 5 (First Aid) Time: 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm Location: PBES Library Number of Sessions: Fee: $35 Heartsaver® First Aid, CPR, AED is designed to prepare you to provide first aid, CPR, and use an automated external defibrillator (AED) in a safe, timely, and effective manner. This American Heart course is a video-based, instructor-led course that teaches students critical skills needed to respond to and manage an emergency until emergency medical services arrive. Skills covered in this course include first aid; choking relief in adults, children, and infants; and what to do for sudden cardiac arrest in adults, children, and infants. This course teaches skills with the AHA’s research-proven practice-while-watching technique, which allows instructors to observe the students, provide feedback, and guide the students’ learning of skills.

BEGINNING SWIMMING

Time: 5:00 pm to 5:30 pm for beginning swimmers 5:30 pm to 6:00 pm for more advance swimmers Number of Lessons: 8 lessons in each session Fee: $35 for each session

Ann brings 30+ years of aquatic experience with her to the pool so join her each Monday and Wednesday for a half-hour of instruction and fun. In this class, your child will learn basic water and swimming skills including: floating, breath control, beginning strokes and other water-related skills. Classes are small with personal attention given to each student. Have your child learn how much fun the water can be.

Registration only taken over the phone or in person! Placement in session 1 or 2 determined by the child’s age, and/or swimming skills. Limited Enrollment so don’t delay. Call when your brochure arrives.

INTERMEDIATE SWIMMING

Intermediate swimmers are comfortable in the water, have learned to float and can swim short distances ranging from the width of a pool to a pool length. In this class Rachel will focus on stroke techniques for freestyle, introduce back-stroke and work on breathing and endurance.

WET VEST/SOGGY JOGGING

Get a great workout with NO IMPACT. A wet vest keeps you suspended in the deep water freeing you to do a variety of leg and arm movements with the added benefit of water resistance. This class is for everyone, whether you are a serious athlete or someone just embarking on an exercise program. Spend your evenings in the water with one of the two instructors and see how enjoyable a water workout can be.

KID CHRISTMAS COOKING & CRAFT CLASS

Instructor: Cindy Hatten Date: Saturday, December 9 Time: 9:00 to 12:00 Location: FBMS Consumer Science Kitchen Fee: $10 for kids $5 for adults (which includes all the ingredients for the treats you will make, sample and take home.) Come and enjoy 2+ hours of fun Christmas treat making and craft building. When we're finished, each child will go home with fun and delicious treats for holiday munching or gift giving. You'll spend a very enjoyable two hours (or longer) with lots to show for it. So sign up early and make sure to bring a container for all the treats you will bring home. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

AFTER-SCHOOL CODING CLUB!

Instructor: Kim Smith Dates: October 23, November 6, November 20, December 4, December 18 Time: 5:00-6:00 Location: PBES Library Number of Sessions: 5 Participants: Students in grades 2-8 Fee: $30 Computer programming (or coding) is a skill that is rapidly becoming prevalent in the 21st century. Many careers are benefitted by having at least a basic understanding of cod-ing language, and the computer science field is experiencing shortages of qualified people to fill the increasing number of programming related jobs. This class offers students the opportunity to come in to explore the world of code and build problem solving skills along the way. We will utilize Code.org courses as well as MIT’s Scratch platform to learn the basics of JavaScript in a fun and interactive way!

What better way to spend an evening with your child than participating in fun science experiments, crafts and cooking Spend one evening a month with Janelle as she guides you through exciting and fun project-based learning activities centered around a wonderful book. So get away from the TV and bond with your child doing something fun and creative.

Children must be accompanied by an adult and need to be in kindergarten or older.
