PRECISION AND CNC MACHINING ADVANCED MANUFACTURING TECHNOLOGY
Explore your opportunities in an exciting career pathway!
Manufacturing skills, or Precision Machining,
and particularly Computer Numerical Control
(CNC)/machining skills, are in high demand in
the aerospace, marine, automotive and
medical manufacturing industries. Companies
like Lockheed Martin, BMW, Safeboats, The
Boeing Company and their suppliers are
continually pursuing employees with
manufacturing skills. The aerospace industry
in particular predicts they will see significant
increases in employment capacity over the
next few years. Many workers in this industry
are approaching retirement age, which means
the industry will need to fill those newly
opened positions.
Employers look for employees who are on
time, dependable, can work well alone or in
teams, have good communication skills, and
have a good work ethic. These important
qualities are stressed in our curriculum. The
certificates offer students a gateway to a
broad range of careers. Students are provided
with a combination of classroom, shop and
workplace experiences. Students visit several
manufacturing employers and apply for and
participate in internships as part of the
curriculum. Employers look for applicants with
job and work skills practiced in this program.

“I’m a sculptor, I love to create things. After
sitting in on a class, I found my interest in
the program. It challenged me intellectually
while still letting me use my hands. It was a
perfect combination of my interests and
skills. This program at OC has given me a
second chance for a better life, with a
livable wage and purposeful work.”
