BRIEF HISTORY OF
ASHTANGA YOGArequiring higher levels of flexibility and humility. Each level is to be fully developed before proceeding to the next, and the sequential order of asanas is to be meticulously followed. Each posture is a preparation for the next, developing the strength and balance required to move further by pace. Without an earnest effort and reverence towards the practice of asana is of little benefit.
Om Yoga studio’s mission is to use the practices of
Ashtanga yoga to help benefit and help athletes bodies
heal and grow. Constantly challenging and pushing their
bodies to extreme limits becomes straining on joints
and muscles. When working the body for long hours to
get the results we are looking for way to recover and
heal from any potential injuries. Ashtanga puts the body
through a vigorious workout through a series of
MISSIONpositions ranging from beginner and advanced. A
fast paced class keeps the stamina at a high keeping
everyone in great shape. By practicing and challenging
the body through ashtanga yoga will condition the body,
allow you to understand your own body and prevent and
treat current injuries.

BREATHSThe breathing technique performed with vinyasa is called ujjayi victorious breath,
which consists of puraka [inhalation] and rechaka [exhalation]. Both the inhale and
exhale should be steady and even, the length of the inhale should be the same
length as the exhale. Over time, the length and intensity of the inhalation and
exhalation should increase, such that the increased stretching of the breath initiates
the increased stretching of the body. Long, even breathing also increases the internal
fire and strengthens and purifies the nervous system.

INHALE & EXHALE:From beginner to advanced positions, all students are taught the technique of breathing correctly through different positions. Following the instructer will benef it the student in allowing the mind and muscles to relax and focus on the goal of each position. Learning how to breath correctly allows the body to meditate and push through the pain while stretching; only to achieve consistant results.

POSITIONSAshtanga Vinyasa Yoga synchronizes breath and movement through a set series of
asanas (postures).This combination creates intense heat, and thereby rids the body
of toxins, removes impurities, and creates vibrant physical, mental and spiritual
wellness.This physical purification creates mental clarity and awareness in all
aspects of our personality. From this place we can make sense of the subtler
aspects of the Ashtanga Yoga Philosophy . Beneficial for re-aligning the skeletal
system, improving strength and stamina, flexibility and becoming more aware of the

Dristhi is the gazing point on which one focuses while performing the asana. There
are nine dristhis: the nose, between the eyebrows, navel, thumb, hands, feet, up,
right side and left side. Dristhi purifies and stabilizes the functioning of the mind. In
the practice of asana, when the mind focuses purely on inhalation, exhalation, and
the drishti, the resulting deep state of concentration paves the way for the practices
of dharana and dhyana, the six and seventh limbs of Ashtanga yoga.
