Idéklinikken (the Ideas Clinic) is an innovation department affiliated to Aalborg University Hospital and the North Denmark Region. We aim to bring good ideas to the market in collecting, testing and realising good ideas related to professional health-care.

We are interested in all kind of chal-lenges ideas and inventions — from our clinical staff as well as from pa-tients and relatives.

We are able to deal with good ideas and follow them all the way through. We are a team of specialists within different fields — right from idea, project development and industrial design to commercial law and com-mercialisation.

The process — from idea to reality

EvaluationAn internal project team will evaluate the potential of your idea: Is there already a known solution to that problem? Is there an interest-ing market potential? Is it some-thing Idéklinikken can help with?

Qualification and planningIdéklinikken qualify the invention/idea and identify possible collabo-ration partner. We start by making a project development plan.

Protection and implementationIdéklinikken will evaluate the possibility for patent protection. We also assist with project develop-ment as well as implementation in our hospital.

CommercialisationIdéklinikken will seek for collabo-ration partners and ensure the negotiation of agreements between parties.

If you have an idea for a new or improved product we can help to evaluate its poten-tial. Idéklinikken will keep track on the process from idea to market. We have many collaborative partners, in the research as in the industrial area, both in Denmark and abroad that will enable the idea to be developed and tested. For example, Idéklinikken has collaborated with the neonatal department and a company from Northern Jut-land in the development of a new baby carrier for premature babies.

Through interviews, observa-tions and workshops, we analyse the problem, and develop concrete solutions in close cooperation with you and your colleagues. Idéklinikken has for example, assisted Aal-borg University Hospitals blood bank in reducing the number of unintended incidents in their unmanned blood depots. Idéklinikken places a great deal of emphasis on user participation throughout the process and the project is thus always closely linked with the participating department. This ensures a solution that meets the users‘ needs and requirements as well as a local ownership within the department.

Ideas and inventions arising from research are an important source of growth and innovation in the Danish society. If you have developed a new method or technology through your research, you must report it to Ideklinikken to evaluate the patent possi-bilities. Idéklinikken‘s specialists know when and how an invention should be patented and how to commercialise it.

Idéklinikken has, for example, been involved in the development of a stretch sensor that can measure, collect and analyse body movement data, in collaboration with Aalborg University Hospital Orthopedic department, and engineers from Aarhus University.
