Congratulations to Lucy Loomis on her Eagle!
Just so you know, this past program was really one you really will be sorry you missed! How do I
know, because I missed it too. I was out of town. What is your reason? Before I finish this article – I'm
going to tell you what I intend to do to see that I can have an opportunity to make up for what I missed, I
suggest you stay tuned!
Sara Wampole gave a talk on Hitchcock Woods. She talked about the project to bring back the
Red-cockaded Woodpecker, that was missing from this area especially the Hitchcock Woods for quite
some time. It was no small task, but because of the work of some very dedicated people it has been
successful . She talked about how they made homes for them in just the right trees so that they could just
move right in without working so hard (turn key so to speak). It was no small task! She talked about
seeing the Kalmia in bloom in the Woods – that I have seen, it is worth a special trip! In fact Sara gives
walking tours of the woods from time to time. I'm going to see that I go on one with her. If you want to
see the woods through the eyes of a true “Lover of Hitchcock Woods” do what I'm going to do and get
in touch with Sara!
Our next program is called Zero Scaping. This is how to get your property to look good with just a little
work! Isn't that what all of us are trying to do? Again, I suggest that you come to our next meeting on
March 16th at 10:30 in the Dogwood Room. It's not too late to be a part of a really special group – Come
on you know you want to be there!
Before I sign off until next month, The Houndslake Garden Club would like to extend VERY SPECIAL
THANKS to Jim Johnson for framing and installing the new sign for the Carolina Fence Garden. Check it
out!
If you have any questions about the Houndslake Garden Club, please call
Jane Rordam 648-5137. I have the answer or I can get it for you!
We are very fortunate to be a part of such a wonderful community such as
Houndslake. It takes teamwork, dedication, and hard work from many people to
make the club special. We are grateful for everyone: (the homeowners, members,
volunteers, and staff) who contribute to the greater good of the community.
During the month of February, many volunteers took time and out of their busy
schedule to do various jobs around the club, such as pressure washing, putting up
new signs, and working around the tennis courts.
Special thanks to Letti Book, Paulette Welsch, Jerry Clements, Sandra Shelly, Sherry
Williamson, Maureen Bergstrom, Judy Clements, Dick Funkhouser, and Don
Carlberg for all of the hard work they have done. We sincerely apologize if there
is someone we have missed.
Thank you! The club would certainly not survive without this support.
Book Club will be reading The
Diplomat’s Daughter. They will
meet March 29th at 11:30 am.
Book club is open to all
members and guests.
Please call to make
reservations.
