It is the market that dictates the terms and today this law, at fi rst sight pitiless, seems to be irrefutable. The market requires quality, innovation, answers to pro-blems, service skill and high-profi table solutions. If an enterprise is able to move along this direction, success is secured. OMET is moving in this direction and the results can be seen. At Drupa in Düsseldorf new important acknow-ledgments came for the innovation ability of this fi rm: a confi rmation of an international role that OMET has gained thanks to its products and technologies. The consent that it has managed to obtain on one of the most important but also most diffi cult and compe-titive markets like China in a single year proves it. As well as the prestigious awards by important customers giving confi dence to this Italian company owing to the performances of its machines, for a lot of aspects really impressive. So the process of internationalization and conquest of the world markets goes on at speeded-up paces: in Central and South America as in the new Eastern Europe markets. Next to the continuous innovation of products, OMET introduces today also accessory systems and solutions, widening the range of its own business action more and more. All that means listening to the market: complying with its needs and where possible anticipa-ting them. A diffi cult and ambitious commitment, but able to pay in terms of results and success.

Un bilancio superiore ad ogni attesa.
È particolarmente positivo il bilancio che
Marco Calcagni, direttore vendite OMET,
punto fermo nelle politiche commerciali.
muove su tutti i mercati mondiali”.
A testimonianza del successo dell’edizione
2004 stanno i numerosi contratti siglati nel
corso della manifestazione: “Per quanto
ci riguarda – commenta ancora il direttore
vendite OMET - abbiamo venduto diverse
widening of the operational borderlines of
our company, which is now moving on all
world markets”.
As a proof of the success of this 2004 edition
there are the numerous contacts started
during the show: “About business at Drupa

sold different lines. Other agreements were
concluded in the immediately subsequent
weeks. Once more OMET managed offering
visitors the image of a company in continuous
evolution and the great exhibited novelties
attracted a higher number of potential custo-
mers than expected “.
All the novelties by OMET at the fair.
The main novelty launched by OMET at Drupa
was the new die-cutting system called Twin-
Cut, in-line installed on Varyfl ex, allowing
making all formats only using two pairs of
magnetic cylinders.
A great attention was paid by visitors to the

linee. Altri contratti sono stati conclusi nelle
settimane immediatamente successive.
rotocalco, entrambi a motori indipendenti e
soltanto impressionato nello stand allestito
in Drupa. Proprio l’importanza di questa
manifestazione fi eristica ha spinto OMET a
promuovere un’iniziativa, che ha riscontrato
l’interesse di molti clienti, soprattutto extraeu-
ropei.
Center OMET, oltre 150 clienti. Essi hanno
così potuto assistere alle dimostrazioni della
Varyfl ex, in grado di passare in meno di 10
minuti dalla stampa e fustellatura a 150
m/min di cartoncino pieghevole con spessore
480 micron, alla stampa a 200 m/min su fi lm
plastico BOPP con spessore 38 micron, con
perfetto registro di stampa in entrambe le
situazioni.
new silk-screen printing unit and the rotogra-
vure printing unit, both having independent
motors and interchangeable with the normal
fl exo printing units of Varyfl ex.
About tissue business division at last, OMET
introduced TV 503 with a point-to-point
embossing unit able to realize a “three-layer”
product. The machine was in-line connected
to a Senning wrapping machine for the pro-
duction of fi nished packs of printed napkins.
OMET special fl ights for its customers.
OMET technology and machines did not only
impress on the stand prepared at Drupa. For
this important fair event, OMET promoted
an initiative who meet the interest of a lot of
customers, above all the extra-Europeans. To
give them the opportunity to have a direct
vision of the wide range of products by
OMET, special fl ights connecting Düsseldorf
to Milan was organized and over 150 custo-
mers were taken to the new OMET Tech-
nology Center located in Lecco. They could
attend Varyfl ex demos, going from print and
die cut 480 micron folding carton at 150
m/min to print on 38 micron BOPP plastic fi lm
at 200 m/min in less than 10 minutes. In both
situation with a perfect print register.

It is important to be able to adapt ourselves

adesive. Nel 2003, poi l’acquisto della “Gra-
fi ques Martorell”, in provincia di Barcellona,
azienda specializzata in etichette tradizionali.
investimenti fatti in questi anni in attrezzature
e impianti, possiamo essere davvero compe-
titivi.
solo in Spagna”.
Sono infatti numerosi
i Paesi esteri che Gra-
fi che Lappi serve, sia
bility and continuous skill of innovating itself
mark time with the market demands.
A winning recipe, as the dynamism of this
Spanish entrepreneurial reality asserts,
working with success in the label sector since
1959, considered to be “the fundamental ele-
ment in making decisions by the consumer”.
The growing importance of packaging on the
market is namely a fact to face with. Lappi did
it, accomplishing the realization of the new
large production plant in Dos Hermanas, in
the neighborhoods of Siviglia, in 1989. It is 18
thousand square meters wide and the entire
production of economic, luxury and adhesive
labels is concentrated there. In 2003 there
comes the purchase of “Graphiques Marto-
rell”, in the Barcelona province, a company
specializing in traditional labels.
“We can count on a complete range of print
technologies –Antonio Lappi Perea goes on
– spacing from offset to silk screen, from
fl exography to letterpress print. And in each
sector – thanks to the continuous investments
made throughout these years in equipements
and plants – we can really be competitive.
Moreover, always in line with our fl exibility
policy, we are able to serve both small and
large-volume lots: this production diversifi -
cation allowed us to cover the multiple run
needs of a larger and larger number of custo-
mers, and not only in Spain”.
The foreign countries served by Lappi – both
directly and indirectly – are namely numerous
in Europe (United Kingdom, Ireland, Portugal,
Czech Republic, Russia), in the Mediterranean
area (Morocco, Israel), in Asia (Japan, Arab
Emirates), in Africa (Sierra Leone, Equato-

direttamente che indirettamente: in Europa
(Regno Unito, Irlanda, Portogallo, Repubblica

Israele), in Asia (Giappone, Emirati Arabi), in
Africa (Sierra Leone, Guinea Equatoriale), e nel
continente americano (Messico, Stati Uniti, Sud

e rapido e costi molto competitivi”.
“L’in-
vestimento in tecnologia e in risorse umane
- afferma ancora Antonio Lappi Perea - costitui-
sce un elemento centrale nelle nostre strategie
aziendali.
rial Guinea) and in the American continent
(Mexico, United States, South America,
Caribbean).
“At he base of our success –the general
Manager of Lappi Etiquetas – there is an
element mix: fl exibility in quantity, a mission
for quality, a quick and rapid service and very
competitive costs”.
Among the fi rst companies in the sector on
international level to be certifi ed not only
according to ISO 9001 but also ISO 14001,
testifying a great attention paid to quality
and environmental respect, Lappi Etiquetas
may boast other two important “plus”: the
low average age of its employees (32 years)
and the high replacement of the production
plants (each machine is no more than four
years old on average).
“The investment in technology and human
resources –Antonio Lappi Perea states once
again – constitutes a central element in our
company strategies. It allows us keeping the
service quality level high and the produc-
tion costs low. And the cooperation started
with OMET these years places itself in this
outlook”.
Two in particular are OMET machines installed
in these last years. The fi rst one – installed in
February 2002 – is a MULTIFLEX LB to print

Due, in particolare, le macchine OMET instal-
late in questi ultimi anni. La prima, installata
nel febbraio 2002, è una MULTIFLEX LB per
stampa di etichette di larghezza nastro di 270

hot foil e goffratore in linea.
hot foil e goffratore in linea.
senza cedimenti e usure” spiega Antonio
dopo aver verifi cato l’effettivo rendimento in
produzione della prima Multifl ex”.

L’innovazione, per essere
davvero tale, non deve
essere fi ne a se stessa. È
invece necessario che essa
si traduca in una serie di
vantaggi concreti e tangi-

Innovation, to be really so, shall not be an
end in itself. It is necessary that it translates
itself into a set of real and tangible advan-
tages for those who shall use the product
every day. It is following this logic that OMET
has been moving up to today: a golden rule
marking the activity of its Research & Deve-
lopment Division evermore and allowing
throughout these years to grow and obtain
more and more consents on the market.
Since OMET looks at the real and daily needs
of industry. And it tries to fulfi ll them with
product innovation, making its machines and
its technologies a reference point on world
level for operators.
This is also the case of the new die-cutting
system TWIN-CUT that OMET introduced at
DRUPA 2004, in line with the narrow-web
gearless rotary machine Varyfl ex for the pro-
duction of folding carton and self-adhesive
labels.
A really innovative die-cutting system on
world level, as it is proved by the prestigious
nomination obtained in the category “Inno-
vation in Printing Press/Finishing” within the

The introduction of the new TWIN-CUT unit
contributes in speeding up and simplifying in-
line production of labels and folding carton.
Buying magnetic cylinders for the different
formats will not be necessary any longer, nor
the cylinders shall be assembled and disas-
sembled with a large time waste and all the
risks connected to the production of new
cylinders. It will be enough to insert 2 magne-
tic die-cutting plates, which will be program-

riposo sui 2 cilindri alternativamente.
standard a tensione controllata. La program-
mazione del sistema è centralizzata e viene
gestita direttamente dal pannello di controllo.
Il gruppo pertanto può funzionare per medie
e alte tirature utilizzando un solo cilindro
magnetico intercambiabile, come il sistema
tradizionale, o a doppio cilindro alternato con
il sistema TWIN CUT.
L’introduzione del nuovo gruppo TWIN-CUT
contribuisce a velocizzare e semplifi care la
produzione in linea di etichette e cartoncino
pieghevole.
Sarà suffi ciente inserire in macchina 2 fustelle
magnetiche, che verranno programmate e
sincronizzate sul pannello di comando.

qualità, ormai il Guatemala e l’intero Centro
America sono chiamati a misurarsi diret-
tamente con il packaging che arriva dalla
Spagna e dall’Italia: produttori e consumatori
in primo luogo ricorrere agli impianti OMET:
“Abbiamo conosciuto OMET - continua
Mendez - attraverso internet e la rivista
“Archipelago”, e ci hanno colpito l’ampia
gamma proposta e l’enfasi sulle prestazioni
delle macchine. E, dopo averle potute vedere
motori indipendenti a sleeve, asciugamenti
combinati aria+UV+IR su tamburo, peciali
gruppi hot foil e cold foil e stazione di conver-
ting con gruppi per goffratura, cordonatura
e fustellatura in linea. Un impianto davvero
importante, il primo del genere venduto da
OMET in Centro America.
“Siamo stati impressionati, in fase di collaudo,
dall’elevata produttività di questa macchina.
- afferma Carlos Alfredo Rivera Segura,
Empaques – And we have been able to make
both medium-high runs and small lots. As
far as quality is concerned, Guatemala and
Central America have never been called to
measure directly with packaging coming from
Spain and Italy: manufacturers and consumers
have expectations for high quality”.
Right to effi ciently answer the market chal-
lenge, Central de Empaque has decided to
buy Italian print technology for quite a time.
And today this means turning to OMET
plants in the fi rst place: “We knew OMET
– Mendez goes on – through Internet and the
magazine “Archipelago” and we were struck
by the wide range proposal and emphasis on
machine performances. After seeing them
running, I shall admit that our conviction was
further strengthened and the performances
are even higher than the promised ones”.
This is the way we went through to purchase
a Varyfl ex 670, provided with eight fl exo-UV
units with double independent sleeve engi-
nes, combined air+UV+IR drying , special
hot-foil and cold-foil units and a converting
station with in-line embossing, creasing and
die-cutting units. A really important plant,
the fi rst of this kind sold by OMET in Central
America.
“We were impressed during the fi nal-
test phase by the high productivity of this
machine. – states Carlos Alfredo Rivera
Segura, manager of the Research & Develop-
ment division at Central de Empaques – We
were looking for a production of fi nished
carton boxes from a roll amounting to 100
meters a minute and we tested the possibility
of a production up to 200 meters a minute.
Almost twice as much as we demanded. And
the most important thing is that the register is
perfectly kept”. This one being a strong point
obtained on Varyfl ex 670 also thanks to the
innovative waste-suction device after die-
cutting, which the machine is provided with,

sono state davvero eccezionali, Carlos Alfredo

Cigarette boxes, polyethylene-paper glas-
ses and boxes for fast food: these will be
the products that will be most frequently
made on the new Varyfl ex 670 by Central

paper products for large consumption in the
foodstuff sector being a market representing
a segment in strong growth in the whole area
and that – thanks to the specifi cations of the
new Varyfl ex – may be realized conjugating
high productivity and print quality.
But if the performances of the machine by
OMET have really been exceptional, Carlos
Alfredo Rivera Segura does not miss to under-
line other positive aspects of the relation
started with OMET: “The cooperation we have
registered has really been optimal under the
technical and business profi le as well as the
service. – he asserts – The fact that Varyfl ex
assembles standard electrical components,
easily to be bought directly by us in Central
America, is one more point of strength.”

stampa a caldo e a freddo in linea, garantisce
rotativa.
La stampa ottenuta è allineata e perfettamente
a registro su entrambi i lati, grazie al nuovo
gruppo Front & Back.
plicazione ideale è rappresentata dai tubolari in
In
migliora, grazie all’accurato registro del singolo
passaggio. Infi ne si possono realizzare soggetti
di stampa che con altre macchine richiedereb-
bero fi no a 16 gruppi.
Insomma, Flexy OMET mette il turbo e promette
di mietere nuovi importanti successi.
new upgrade system for
such a jewel machine. It is a kit that
allows printing the web on both sides, on the
front and on the back, in the number of colors
available on the rotary press. The obtained
print is aligned and perfectly registered on
both sides thanks to the new Front & Back
unit. The base to be printed (paper, labels,
carton, etc) shall have a maximum width equal
to half the useful span of the rotary press.
Final applications are multiple: just think about
the types of paper product, promotional
labels, packaging cartons. An ideal application
is represented by medium-thickness fi lm tubu-
lar items for foodstuff packaging of various
kind.
Obviously, even the advantages are remarka-
ble. In the fi rst place in terms of rapidity: times
are reduced by half, avoiding the diffi culties
and wastes of a double passage. But also qua-
lity improves thanks to the accurate register
of the single passage. Finally, you can print
subjects that would
require up to 16 units
on other machines.
In short, OMET Flexy

speed and
promises reaping
new important
successes.

attrezzature produttive.
impianti costruiti all’insegna della razionalità
fustellatura variabile TwinCut.
Il grande stand della OMET, posizionato in
modo strategico all’entrata dell’esposizione,
ha registrato oltre 300 importanti visitatori
fra i quali aziende come CCL, WS Packaging,
Renaissance Mark e York Label. VaryFlex,
l’unica macchina da stampa progettata con
in the North American market. In a highly
competitive market that has been reluctant
to invest heavily in new production equip-
ment since the year 2000, OMET has steadily
gained market recognition and relevance by
offering cutting edge technology combined
with rugged, sensible design and construc-
tion. This progress reached a high point with
OMET’s demonstration of a 6-color, 520mm

servo-driven die cutting system at LabelExpo.

tecnologia gearless, servo-motori e gruppi
Durante
vantaggi economici crescono sensibilmente
sui mercati mondiali. Come OMET è stata in

tive label job to a 6-color fl exible packaging
job on BOPP in about 10 minutes. During
these demonstrations, Matik’s Sales Manager
Steve Leibin provided lively commentary to
describe the process to the crowds.
Customers were especially interested in the
new TwinCut system. This system enables
converters of either labels or folding cartons
to quickly change repeat sizes without the
costs normally associated with engraved too-
ling. Especially as presses become wider, the
economics of converting change completely
with the use of TwinCut.
LabelExpo 2004 was an important step in the
development of OMET’s place in the world-
wide market. As OMET has brought changes
to the US market through its technology,
so too has the US market had an effect on
OMET. American customers’ insistence on

Its invention dates straight back to 1878, but
only late during last century its use started
spreading. In the beginning, with a lot of per-
plexities; then, little by little with more and more
success.
So that today this printing system is certainly
one of the most widespread in the world. And
not only to print magazines and reviews, but
above all in this decade it has known its real
“boom” even in the sector of cosmetic and wel-
lness products thanks to its special effects and
brilliance that can be obtained in the employed
metallic colors.
We talk about rotogravure print: a system
that if in the countries of the Far East, starting
with China, represents a “must” for most
large-consumption product packaging in the
United States and Europe it has been disco-
vered by the main groups operating in the
beauty and cosmetic fi eld to give added value
to the image on the sales shelf and make the

bile e oscillante.
Il gruppo utilizza inchiostri metallici a base sol-
vente o colle per laminazioni particolari (per
esempio “cold seal”).
tare questi inchiostri in grande quantità, così
abbattere drasticamente i costi. Basti pensare
al costo degli inchiostri per rotocalco rispetto
a quelli dei fogli in lamina. A ciò aggiun-
L’inchiostro
in eccesso viene automaticamente rimosso e
recuperato.
The units uses solvent-based metallic inks
or particular lamination glues (for example
“cold seal”). It is inserted into the printing
machine with the aim of transporting these
inks in large quantities, so as to obtain high
deposit thickness and therefore lamination
effects that it is not possible to have on fl exo
printing. Its employment, as already stated,
is knowing a rapid growth right for labels
required by multinational companies for their
products: brilliant metallic labels, with golden
and silver effects, able to “open a way” on
the shelf and emerge compare to the other
products of competitors.
This type of printing seems to be able to
replace hot-foil printing effi caciously: it’s
enough inserting two or three subsequent
rotogravure units to obtain really excellent
results with the advantage of drastically
knocking down costs. Just think about the
cost of rotogravure inks compared to foil
ones. And moreover, using a “hot-foil” unit
you are forced to slow down the printing
speed and consequently increase tooling
costs. In the end, ink deposits only onto the
printing area in a rotogravure unit, while foil
wastes required by the “hot-foil” process are
extremely expensive.
Top quality in print.
It is not by chance that, under the technical
profi le, rotogravure print is the easiest one
among all rotary-print systems, requiring the
lowest number of elements to transfer ink
onto a support. A metallic cylinder, on which
the reversed image to be printed is impres-
sed, catches the ink contained in the ink
basin. The excess ink is automatically removed
and recovered. The cylinder rotates and tran-
sfers the ink directly onto the support.
More brilliant than fl exo print, cheaper than
hot -foil print: rotogravure print, so as it is
conceived by OMET, has also the advantage
of being extremely fl exible. Not only because
it can print on different support such as
labels, cartons and fi lms, but also because the
unit created by OMET may be easily inser-
ted into a printing machine in the required

l’operazione.
Quanto alla qualità di stampa, OMET ha
concepito uno speciale rullo gommato,
inserito nella bacinella, che aiuta a riempire
gli alveoli del cilindro stampa distribuendo
in modo omogeneo l’inchiostro su tutta la
superfi cie. Inoltre, al fi ne di evitare fenomeni
di essicazione dell’inchiostro negli alveoli, ha
previsto un sistema di inchiostrazione a “tutta
larghezza”.
a base solvente. Tutti i componenti elettrici,
quindi, sono stati schermati, mentre i motori e
le pulsantiere sono pressurizzate per impedire
un accidentale penetrazione da parte del
solvente.
position and printing sequence according to
the different jobs to be carried out. It can be
moved very easily thanks to the particular
design of the connection systems allowing
only one maintenance engineer to perform
the operation with the aid of a special car-
riage outside the machine.
As to the printing quality, OMET has con-
ceived a special rubber roll, included in the
basin, helping fi lling up the printing-roll cells
distributing the ink onto the whole surface
homogeneously. Moreover, in order to avoid
ink-drying process on the cells, a “whole-
length” inking system has been foreseen.
Again, it is possible to get into the unit an
“ESA” device: i.e. an electrostatic enslavement
device to foster ink transport even into the
fi nest screens and particularly useful when
print onto a non perfectly fl at support shall be
performed.
At last it shall be underlined that OMET roto-
gravure unit has been prepared according to
Atex regulations, specifi c for anti-defl agration
- cunning being necessary considering the use
of solvent-based inks. All electric components
have been shielded to prevent the solvent
from accidental penetration.

Suitable for all silk-screen units by OMET and
with all its used print development, this new
OMET pre-press system allows reusing screens
more times for new printing jobs. This means
a remarkable cost reduction, above all if com-

The process step by step.
Let’s enter a little bit more the details to see
how the process develops step by step.
The fi rst phase is the gluing one, i.e. assembly
of ring nuts on the silk-screen cylinder through
a unit provided with two mobile centering
heads adaptable to any format and adjustable
register supports.
Through a dedicated tooling a thin layer of
photosensitive emulsion is applied to the cylin-

with a set of adapters as a function of the
printing format or automatic: the latter being
provided with an electronic-adjustment system
also for the work speed, ensuring a perfect
uniformity of the coating that subsequen-
tly undergoes an oven-drying process with
electronic adjustment of the temperature and
forced air re-circulation.
At this point the positive fi lm is assembled
around the silk-screen cylinder and the photo-
sensitive emulsion undergoes the action of UV

Here we are in the development phase of the cylinders: the non-exposed coa-
ting is removed from the silk-screen cylinder in the special developer, where a
double washing-rinsing cycle with water occurs. After the control phase with
a luminous touch-up device, the silk-screen cylinder is ready to be inserted
into the printing unit.
Once print has fi nished, through a double washing-rinsing cycle equipment,
ink is removed by means of a special cleanser from cylinder and doctor-blade
and the cylinder can be stocked this way while waiting for print to be repea-

It is at this point in the process that the special ultrasound regeneration unit,
in which the silk-screen cylinder is inserted, places itself immersed in a biode-
gradable non-volatile water solution: the ultrasound action allows a complete
removal of the emulsion from the coating and restores the cylinder in its
integrity, ready to be used for a new job.

superiore ai corrispondenti inchiostri all’acqua o a solvente.
chiaro-scuro meglio defi nite.
olio, alcool) e l’elevata versatilità applicativa.

COMPETITIVITÀ CON GLI ALTRI SISTEMI DI STAMPA STANNO LE

Once associated to medium-low quality jobs, fl exography has rightly become
a highly competitive printing system today, in which quality and fl exibility
merge. At the base of this evolution and the numerous advantages presented
by this system, compared for example to off-set print, there are fi rst of all the
UV inks used by it.
The point of difference in their working, compared to the relevant water and
solvent-based inks, lies in their own formulation and translates itself into a
different drying mechanism. In the case of liquid inks, drying is of physical
type: the ink fi lm hardens owing to a simple separation of its components
(for instance due to evaporation of the solvents/water) without a chemical
transformation of the binder.
In UV inks, on the contrary, a chemical drying occurs based on a binder tran-
sformation through a polymerizing process: in such a way some macro-mole-
cules form and modify the initial chemical physical properties of the damp
fi lm. UV radiations are namely so rich in energy to generate polymerizing
processes based on photochemical reactions. UV polymerization starts thanks
to the energy absorbed by specifi c groups of molecules called photo-initiators:
they decompose in reactive radicals, starting a chain polymerization of the
unsaturated molecules that are present in the binder. In fractions of seconds
three-dimensional bindings form among the molecules transforming the
liquid binder into solid fi lm.
It becomes evident how the absence of solvents and instantaneous drying are
the main competitive factors of fl exo-UV inks, allowing a high print quality
and a large application economy.
But the advantages of such inks do not stop here. Since fl exo-UV inks are a
100% solid system (not containing volatile components), they show a high
pigmentation: the chromatic yield is then higher than the corresponding
water or solvent-based inks. The applied quantity corresponds to the dried
fi lm: the result is a chromatic density similar to those obtained in offset or
letterprint.
For the same reason their physical features remain unaltered until they are
polymerized. That means a constant print quality for the whole run, which is
not affected by viscosity variations deriving from temperature and speed. In
such a way, start-up times and wastes are reduced.
Instantaneously drying, fl exo-UV inks have a low penetration into the print
support and the so-called “dot gain” is very reduced compared to a corre-
sponding fl exo-water ink. All that allows printing high-defi nition images with
very thin screening and better defi ned clear-dark areas. Again, we have to
highlight the good adhesion on a wide range of supports (paper, carton and
plastic fi lms), the good rubbing and scratching resistance, the good product
resistance (water, oil, alcohol) and the high application versatility.
AT THE BASE OF THE SUCCESS OF FLEXOGRAPHY AND ITS
COMPETITIVENESS COMPARED TO OTHER PRINTING SYSTEMS THERE ARE
THE FEATURES OF THE EMPLOYED UV INKS.

A strong and clear message, shining in the silver
medal won few months ago in Athens with Bebo
Bonomi as a partner: a medal that shines maybe
even brighter than Sidney and Atlanta golden
medals, since it was unexpected under many
aspects and conquered in full maturity.
Today Antonio is not the twenty-year old boy who
- paddling like a fury in K1 and in K2 with Scarpa
- gave the world his raised fi st, Italy two golden
medals and the girls in the Bel Paese a poster smile
to sigh after as a present. Antonio is 36 years old,
has a wife (Lucia Micheli) who has been standing
beside him since his early training at Canottieri and
two children, a boy (Riccardo) and a girl (Angelica),
whom he loves at least as much as her. But that
so harmonious face, that smile and that laugh
never denied to anybody, those blue eyes and
that curly hair like an actor make him be one of
the advertising testimonials most in demand. His
face is anywhere and his smile is so direct that he
seems to be almost alive and not immortalized
on advertising posters. A perfect communication
vehicle, a message going straight to the addres-
see and touching women and men to the same
extent as well as girls and grandmothers, children
and fathers.
And it isn’t just a matter of beauty, because
changing-rooms of sports halls and centers are full
of handsome boys with sculptured muscles. The
matter is that his beauty has a light shining bright
from inside, a cleanliness, an honesty, a candor,
a sincerity translating themselves into a life of
faithful husband, loving father and model son.
But there’s a troubling gloom on the latter point
that makes Antonio feel the black sheep in his
family. The gloom is called degree, a sheet of
paper that almost every one in his family has got.

fi ve heirs, handsome Antonio has not obtained it
yet. He got a diploma in scientifi c studies and is
permanently registered at the Faculty of Politi-
cal Sciences. He tried fi tting studies and sports
together in the long roman duty travels keeping
him away from his family to train with the Fede-
ration and come out as a winner at the important
dates, but it hasn’t worked up to now.
His fans feel satisfi ed with the Olympic awards:
bronze in Barcelona in 1992, two golden medals
in K1 and K2 at Atlanta 1996, gold in K2 at Sidney
2000 and the very suffered and for this reason
even more precious silver medal of Athens 2004.
In between, world and Italian championships were
won as easily as following an instruction manual,
granting him the crown of King of canoe.
A king born on the same day (19th December) as
the King of snow Alberto Tomba, with whom he
shared fi rst pages, interviews and birthday parties.
However, Alberto and Antonio are different. Lady-
killer the fi rst, faithful husband the second, there-
fore getting on better with Yuri Chechi, whom he
has become a close friend. When it was the time
to choose the name for his second child, Rossi
launched a challenge on his web site and among
the names he would have liken most he showed
the one of his friend Yuri. A lot of fans chose
Alberto, but in the end the decision was made by
the nurses who advised the awaiting father. And
the baby, whom Lucia gave birth, was baptized as
Riccardo with Yuri as a second name.
On the contrary, he did not need advice from any-
body to decide that most of his earnings would
be given to charity works. The picture of his body
covered of chocolate on the calendar of Lega
Tumori was published on all Italian papers, but it
is only the symbol of how much generosity Rossi
has been able to offer throughout these years.
He did charity work also with the income of the
exclusive photo rights of his marriage with Lucia
dated 1996; a marriage characterized by an army
of teenagers devouring him with their own eyes
(“This has always embarrassed me, actually” he
confessed a short time ago). A commitment - the
social one - only equal to his engagement in the
fi ght against doping. Rossi’s blood is as clean as his
face of good boy and his muscles are not blown
up by steroids for horses or whatever other nasty
in attesa.
secondo nome.
guadagni sarebbe andata in benefi cenza.
in questi anni.

obbligatori.
trick. When the moment comes of undergoing
controls, Rossi does not fear stepping forward.
On the contrary, he offers himself as a volunteer
before the choice is made by lot because he is one
of the beacons in the campaign “I do not risk my
health” held by the Italian National Olympic Com-
mittee. And even more than that, he is one of the
members of the Coni (Italian Olympic Comitate)
scientifi c commission against doping aiming at
tightening the matter up. The previous campaign,
“My life before everything”, foresaw compulsory
checks.
“Voluntary blood and urine tests – Rossi explai-
ned, knowing the various drugs and their side
effects perfectly, when he heard the commission
professors talking to warn athletes – are foreseen.
We want athletes to step forward before compe-
titions”. And some suspicion will arouse on those
who will step backward. Antonio likes thinking
that everybody plays honestly at least in his sport
and in the similar ones. That’s why he is dreaming
of an army of volunteers who have nothing to
hide and undergo all the necessary tests. Above
all, he dreams of parents who do not have the
obsession of growing small champions, but who
teach their children to have fun for sport.
“Children do not need any lessons - the champion
from Lecco said more than once - but their fathers
and mothers do. They shall understand that
children of that age do not sweat enough to need
integrators. Sport shall only be fun and not sharp
competition”. This is the word of a champion who
made it on his own feet. Or better, thanks to his
own arms and a paddle in his hands that perhaps
- but only perhaps - he will pick up again at Beijing
2008 maybe to give us the gold of his forties as a
present.

consolidata, come testimoniano i tre com-
plessi industriali sui quali può contare a livello
produttivo e nei quali trovano lavoro oltre
120 dipendenti. Ma anche il volume d’affari
in costante ascesa sta a dimostrare la validità
dell’intuizione di questi due imprenditori
italo-canadesi e, soprattutto, l’adeguatezza
mercato.
“Nel 1969 - racconta Corrado Provvidenza
- siamo partiti a produrre sacchetti in carta e
buste a fondo quadro utilizzando macchine
di seconda mano, adeguatamente rimoder-
nate.
crescere e conquistare sempre nuovi clienti:

consolidated company – as it is testifi ed by
the three industrial complexes, on which it

120 employees work. The turnover, which
is constantly growing, proves the validity of
these two Italian-Canadian enterprisers’ intui-
tion and above all the fairness of the formula
followed up to now to get into the market.
“In 1969 – Corrado Provvidenza tells – we
started manufacturing paper bags and
square-bottom bags using adequately
renewed second-hand machines. Our outlet
market was the foodstuff one
even at those times. And on this
market we have been working,
gradually widening the range
of offered products. Always
focusing on service and a quality
product”.
A simple but effi cacious ingredient mix
that has allowed Atlas Paper Bag to grow
and always conquer new customers:
“Today – Atlas Paper Bag president

has gone by and not only thirty-fi ve
years, if we think at that time.
The technical progress in the
sector has been so rapid and
the growth that our company has

alimenti, dalle tovagliette ai sacchetti e alle
scatole per il fast-food. E dal 1995 anche i
tovaglioli”.
sette macchine OMET acquistate. “Già da
qualche anno - continua Provvidenza - ave-
tipo. Ci eravamo però resi conto dell’im-
portanza di questo segmento di mercato e
volevamo svilupparlo adeguatamente. Così
abbiamo conosciuto OMET: attraverso Alberto
Redaelli e Marco Calcagni abbiamo potuto
prendere visione della tecnologia OMET e
sperimentare con successo l’installazione della
prima macchina. Da allora la strada è stata
tutta in discesa”.
been so strong! Today we are able to offer
– next to paper bags – a range of products
that cover most the needs of the foodstuff
and fast-food companies: from paraffi ned
paper, printed in 4 colors from roll to roll, to
polypropylene paper for foodstuff packaging,
to fast-food mats, bags and boxes. And since
1995 even napkins”.
The cooperation with OMET developed right
around the sector of paper napkins: a part-
nership established in 1999 and growing
throughout the years as the seven purcha-
sed OMET machines show. “Already some
years ago – Provvidenza goes on – we added
napkins to our product range, but we manu-
factured only one type. We knew the impor-
tance of this market segment and wanted
to develop it suitably, however. So we met
OMET: thanks to Alberto Redaelli and Marco
Calcagni we could get a vision of OMET
technology and experiment successfully the
installation of the fi rst machine. Since then
the road has been all downhill”.
The one by Corrado Provvidenza concerning
OMET is an important acknowledgment.
It comes from an engineer who
“has always a fi nger in the pie”
– as he states himself. “High
speed, optimal keeping of
print register, qua-
lity in folding and
embossing, sturdi-
ness and reliability are
– the president of Atlas
Paper Bag asserts – the main
features of OMET machines,
whose technology is at
the top in the fi eld.

share of 20% approximately”.
This positive cooperation is mutually nou-
rished: “I have had a favorable impression
of OMET management – starting with its
owner Mr. Angelo Bartesaghi – owing to the
seriousness they work with and the large
enthusiasm they place into the realization of
always new machines. These years we have
had the opportunity on our side to deepen
the knowledge and at the same time give a
set of information and suggestions back that
have contributed to improve printing and
packaging plants under a lot of aspects. And
I believe this is the most profi table way of
conceiving a partnership between a customer
and a supplier: a cooperation aiming at let-
ting both parties grow in their own respective
business sectors”.

has been recently widened thanks to the pur-

prodotti in formati standard”.

SYSTEM THAT ALLOWS ELIMINATING
MACHINE-STOP PROBLEMS CAN BE APPLIED
TO EVERY LINE FOR THE PRODUCTION AND
PRINTING OF PAPER AND TISSUE NAPKINS,
PRINTING OF LABELS, FLEXIBLE PACKAGING
AND FOLDING CARTON.
The system is already installed at important
production factories and has obtained praise
for the remarkable results it is giving. Already
installed on OMET machines TV 840 and
TV 505, the printing-plate cleaning system
is ready to be easily applied to every OMET
machine and all the fl exo printing machines
on the market.
The main advantages offered by new Easy
Plate Cleaner are: it completely eliminates
any machine stop due to cleaning operations
and ensures a high print quality – stable and
constant for a long time thanks to its effi cacy.
Its originality lies above all in the working
mechanism: there is namely no contact
between the cleaning head, linearly driven
along the entire printing-plate width, and
the plate itself. On the contrary, the clean-
sing effect of the solution coming out of the
cleaning head through a special nozzle is fully
exploited. To increase the cleaning capacity it
is possible to add specifi c detergents to water
for the different ink types as well.

Il sistema è già installato presso importanti

lato sulle macchine OMET TV 840 e TV 505,
eliminare completamente ogni fermo mac-
Viene invece sfruttato appieno
l’effetto detergente della soluzione che
fuoriesce dalla testina pulente attraverso uno
speciale ugello, soluzione che viene poi com-
pletamente aspirata e riconvogliata in appositi
contenitori, senza problemi ambientali.

i tradizionali prodotti in tessuto. Ciò vale in
modo particolare nei confronti dei tovaglioli

This is valid in particular for paper napkins, by

a 2 veli normale, quelli in tissue a 2 veli e 3
veli goffrati.

Just in line with this trend expressed by the

point-to-point embossing system called Multi-

different materials, with different embossing
and using print on outer layers or on the
inner layer (in 3-ply napkins), even getting
napkins with layers in different colors.

goffratore sulla linea di produzione per
realizzare, secondo le proprie esigenze, tipi
di goffratura differenti e quindi ottenere
tovaglioli con caratteristiche profondamente
diverse tra loro:
• a 3 veli totalmente goffrati e incollati
• a 3 veli con velo superiore goffrato e velo
inferiore liscio
• a 3 veli completamente goffrati senza colla
• a 2 veli completamente goffrati.
Il nuovo gruppo goffratore punta a punta
Multifunction OMET permette l’interposi-
punta”. Inoltre, questo
nuovo sistema di
goffratura brevettato
da OMET permette
di stampare il velo
interno non goffrato,
creando con i veli
esterni non stampati
un effetto “vedo-non-

Si tratta certamente di
un’innovazione impor-

di tovaglioli in tissue
impegnati a stimolare
il mercato con prodotti
di maggior pregio non
solo sotto l’aspetto
estetico, ma anche per
le loro caratteristiche
strutturali e funzionali, come la morbidezza e
la capacità di assorbimento.
Il nuovo goffratore è stato lungamente
collaudato negli stabilimenti OMET ed oggi
permette di lavorare a oltre 650 m/min,
garantendo la produzione e la stampa di
4.000 tovaglioli al minuto (su linea doppia) e
2.000 tovaglioli al minuto (su linea singola)
per formati standard 33x33 cm.

• 3 layers with embossed upper ply and

• 2 completely embossed layers.
The new OMET Multifunction point-to-point
embossing unit allows interposing a non-

layers, coupled according to the new “point-
to-point” technology. Moreover, this new
embossing system patented by OMET allows
printing the inner non-

ting a very original

under the aesthetic
aspect, but also for
their structural and
functional features,
such as softness and

The new embosser has
been tested at OMET factories for a long time
and today allows running over 650 m/min,
ensuring production and print of 4,000

2,000 napkins a minute (on a single line) for

proprio all’universo femminile?

Mezni, with a strong will to do well in a
country that – however next to the European
culture it may be – still remains noticeably
marked by men’s presence at the top of
society.
But who can talk to a woman better than
another woman? Who can offer a safer war-
ranty for her products, above all if they are
precisely addressed to the women’s universe?
That’s how to explain the success of Sah
– being today at the top of the sector in the
Tunisian market, with two important pro-
duction plants in Tunis industrial area and a
constant growth trend that is really signifi cant
all over Magreb.
This excellent result does not seem to fear
the well-trained competition from multina-
tional groups either, which began looking

A cominciare dai
fazzoletti in carta, in tre differenti linee: pic-
distributori “take one”.
mato 40x40 e, soprattutto, presentano l’inno-
at this market with growing interest right in
the latest years. The secret of Sah success is
the outcome of a mix of well proportioned
elements: product quality, production techno-
logy, logistics and distribution organization,
aggressive marketing. All mixed, as we stated,
with Jalila Mezni’s entrepreneurial initiative
skill.
From the product line for women’s care going
through pants shields and sanitary towels,
Sah widened its offer range in the tissue
sector little by little. Starting from paper
handkerchiefs in three different lines: small
for children, delicately perfumed and cartoon
patterned; menthol scented for adults; and
classical, elegant and sober. All delicate and
resistant at the same time. The same han-
dkerchiefs are also to be found in comforta-
ble take-one packs.
But the real jump for quality was done by Sah
thanks to the production of paper napkins
that are available in three different product
lines and unlike features: one-layer and
two-layer napkins with continuous embos-
sing, cheap and in a large-format pack,
with dimensions going from the smallest
size 23x23 up to 30x30; and the brand new
napkins in the line “Lilas Clean Premium”,
reaching the format of 40x40 and above all
presenting the innovative “point-to-point”
embossing and a refi ned decoration pattern,
making them quite similar to a traditional
cotton napkin.

verting: “Proprio per rispondere all’esigenza
lità produttiva, potendo lavorare diversi for-
mati, ed elevata produttività, con una velocità
di 650 m/min.. Tutto questo grazie a soluzioni
innovative brevettate, come il trasferitore
automatico Omet ,e all’utilizzo di tecnologie
d’avanguardia nel campo della progettazione
e produzione.
tero Paese a mostrare forti e numerosi segnali

cooperation with OMET, reference point
on an international level in converting, gets
concrete: “Right to fulfi ll Sah need to widen
its offer range with differentiated proposals

target, we delivered a TV503: a machine stan-
ding out for its skill of combining quality and
reliability, Omet features from time imme-

– Alberto Redaelli, OMET area manager who
follows with attention the Tunisian market,
explains.
“TV 503 – he continues – offers a great pro-
duction fl exibility, is able to process different
formats, presents a high productivity and can
run at a speed of 650 m/min. All that thanks
to innovative patented solutions, like Omet
automatic transfer unit, and the use of advan-
ced technologies in the fi eld of projects and
production. The machine is also provided with
a micro-embossing unit and a set of printing
units to create a fl oral decoration pattern”.
But if Sah undoubtedly represents the
advanced peak on the Tunisian market, it
is the entire country that is showing strong
and numerous signs of dynamism: “Tunisia
- Redaelli goes on – is a strongly growing
dynamic market, the most important in the
North-African Mediterranean area and the
closest to Europe as to culture. This dynamism
is destined to grow throughout next years
owing to the opening to the free market

full of opportunities. After a year of explo-
ration I can say that the choice made by
OMET to enter this market in a direct way
is the right one. Even owing to the times in
which it ripened”. Angelo Bartesaghi has no
doubts on the experience of OMET Shanghai:
the choice of opening a subsidiary in the
commercial and industrial heart of China last
year is proving to be strategic. Also thanks
to the intensive promotional activity carried
out by Zhou Dongyan, the manager of OMET
associated company in Shanghai. “Last year
– he tells – the Chinese market of narrow-
web fl exo print knew a deep evolution, which
led customers to look for a higher and higher
quality in print. This means not being satisfi ed

mpiù elevata nella stampa. Ciò signifi ca non
accontentarsi di acquistare una macchina,
per quanto perfomante possa essere, ma
ricercare piuttosto chi sappia offrirgli delle
soluzioni su misura per avere successo. OMET
stiamo infatti lavorando fi anco a fi anco
in prospettiva futura.
mente indirizzato all’utilizzo di fl exo a nastro
largo.
tecnologia fl exo a nastro stretto. In questo
settore, come OMET, vogliamo portare tutta
l’esperienza maturata nella stampa di astucci
fl essibili (l’elevata tecnologia, l’antifalsifi ca-
zione, la combinazione di rotative e gruppi
rotocalco, la riproduzione di ologrammi in
linea) per acquisire un importante posiziona-
mento”.
with buying a machine, as performing as it
may be, but better still researching who is
able to offer custom-made solutions to have
success. OMET is the right partner under this
aspect. Its philosophy of “innovating for and
together with its own customers” is proving
to be winning: we are namely working side
by side with our customers to offer them the
technically most evolved solutions, able to
solve their problems not only today but also
in a future prospect. What we propose our
customers is a long-term partnership. And
this is giving very good issues”.
Starting with the market of fl exible cartons,
sector on which OMET China has mainly
focused: “High quality, special applications,
evolved technology that may make them
more competitive: this is what our
customers, like manufacturers of
cigarette packs, are looking for.
– explains the manager of OMET
Shanghai – Some of these appli-
cations place themselves today at
the top of the world market in the
sector: such as combined printing
lines, able to join fl exo, rotary and
rotogravure units or machines for
in-line application of the hologram
technology”.
“The plastic-fi lm sector – continues
– represents a particularly interesting poten-
tial market, even if traditionally addressed
towards the use of large-web fl exo. The
tension-control system by OMET allows us
managing in an optimal way even fi lm print
with particularly reduced thickness. So we
have space to enter and conquer market
shares. In the end, there is the label market,
the one that has a wider development poten-
tial for narrow-web fl exo technology. In this
sector, OMET wants to take all its experience
matured in the print of fl exible cartons (high
technology, anti-falsifi cation, the combination
of rotary presses and rotogravure units, in-line
reproduction of holograms) to acquire an
important placing”.
Here are important development prospects
for OMET Shanghai, thanks above all to the

Prospettive di sviluppo, dunque, importanti
per OMET Shanghai. E ciò grazie soprattutto
all’elevata qualità dei prodotti OMET: “Quanti
hanno assistito ad una delle periodiche
dimostrazioni organizzate in aziende dove
supporti differenti. Ma, più in generale, è
nell’idea d‘innovazione per e
con i nostri clienti’ che stiamo
puntando in queste occasioni
di incontro”.
Una strategia che paga,
come dimostrano i brillanti
risultati ottenuti già nel corso
del primo anno. In complesso
è stato sviluppato un fattu-
rato di 4,5 milioni di Euro
e, nei primi mesi dell’anno,
sono previste altre tre nuove
signifi cative installazioni: una
Varyfl ex 520 gearless a 10
colori, con gruppo rotocalco,
gruppo rotativa, gruppo
inserimento ologrammi e gruppo laminazione
in linea; una Flexy 420 a 9 colori e una Multi-
fl ex 520 a 8 colori con svolgitore non-stop e
gruppo rotativa.
detto – conclude Zhou Dongyan – a noi inte-
ricambi.
Open house, demos, technical seminaries and conventions: OMET Shanghai business activity mainly exploits these occasions to let OMET technology be known closely.
high quality of OMET products: “Those who
attended one of the periodic demonstrations
organized in companies where our machines
are running - states Zhou Dongyan again
– have been struck and impressed by the
performances of OMET products: the working
skills, the quality of their register and tension
control and the print versatility on different
supports. But more in general, we are aiming
at the innovation idea for and with our custo-
mers on these meeting occasions”.
A strategy that pays, as the brilliant results
already obtained throughout the fi rst year
demonstrate. A total turnover of 4.5 million
Euro has been developed and in the fi rst
months of the year three new signifi cant
installations are foreseen: a gearless Varyfl ex
520 10 colors, with in-line rotogravure unit,
rotary unit, hologram-insertion unit and
laminating unit; a Flexy 420 9 colors and a
Multifl ex 520 8 colors with non-stop unwin-
der and rotary unit. Moreover, for 2005 an
increase in the turnover is foreseen and with
the growing of the turnover, also the service
offered by OMET Shanghai is destined to
evolve: “As already stated – concludes Zhou
Dongyan – we are interested in building
with our customers a relation that can grow
as time goes by. In such a logic, service is as
important as the skill of offering custom-
made solutions. That’s why we are thinking
with OMET of establishing a company in
China dedicated to the post-sales service,
maintenance and spare-part management.
For this reason we believe that a demo-center
may be important also in view of offering our
customers’ technical engineers and operators
a formation on the fi eld”.

ciale in Brasile.

Its strongest point is the specifi c experience, acquired in almost ten years of
activity on the Brazilian print market. But besides that, Gammerler Ltda from São
Paulo is able to set up a business and service organization having an absolute
value, recognized both by the multiple leading companies it represents and by its
customers - those ones being features that took OMET to make the decision of
entrusting it with its own project of commercial penetration into Brazil in April 2003.
Established in 1996, Gammerler Ltda represents several European brands in the sector and can
count on a wide range of services to the customers, from rapid supply of spare parts to technical
service and assistance 24 hours out of 24, with a consulting skill ranging from fi nancial aspects to
logistic ones. And the cooperation with OMET represents the choice of heading for packaging in
the next years, a market that evolved very rapidly and deeply in Brazil in the past ten years: “Today
Brazilian manufacturers of labels - explain staff people at Gammerler Ltda – are able to compete
for quality, fl exibility and service all over the world and have developed a strong export to Central
and South America, besides the United States, Mexico and a lot of European countries. The choice
made toward very sophisticated and complex labels, in various types of materials, has taken a lot
of companies to strengthen their fl exo plants to print better, faster and in a wide range of formats.
However, Brazilian manufacturers of fl exo-print plants are not able to measure themselves with the
standards of European machines and in particular of OMET machines owing to their fl exibility “.
An example is offered by OMET with Flexy, a machine able to perfectly keep the printing regi-
ster even at high speed and therefore obtain thermal-retractable labels of high quality. Right this
market seems to be in a large expansion in Brazil today, even under the profi le of required multiple
solutions above all in the foodstuff sector, where “hot-foil” and rotogravure printing processes are
used to obtain labels of strong impact for the consumer.
“One more sector of big growth – continues the managers of Gammerler Ltda - is represented by
the market of the small and medium-quantity folding-carton production using a lot of inks and
processes to attract the consumers’ attention. Varyfl ex OMET represents an ideal solution for this
market“.

collaborazione è stato il responsabile di OMET
Iberica, Eduard Pont, da sempre particolar-
mente attento alle opportunità che i Paesi
del Centro e Sud America possono offrire
all’accoglienza della tecnologia d’avanguar-
macchine OMET.
Messico e America Centrale - Le caratteristi-
potenziali clienti. Purtroppo è il cambio a fre-
narci in questo momento. Ma si tratta di un
fattore congiunturale, e quindi di passaggio”.
In particolare sono quattro i segmenti del
mercato del packaging a presentare le
maggiori potenzialità di sviluppo nell’area
controllata da Cosalco S.A. “In primo luogo il
segmento delle etichette adesive. - continua
Álvaro I. López - Un mercato tradizionale,
che presenta grandi volumi e mostra quindi
are in Costa Rica, with subsidiaries in Guate-
mala, El Salvador and Colombia.
This is in brief the profi le of Representaciones
Cosalco S.A., OMET business partner in Cen-
tral America since last year. A reference reality
in this dynamic market in strong evolution,
as the several represented prestigious brands
state as well as the specialization gained in
the specifi c sector of industrial packaging,
with a turnover exceeding 10 million US Dol-
lars and ambitious penetration projects also in
Ecuador and Peru.
Always taking a particular care at the oppor-
tunities that the countries in Central and
South America may offer welcoming the
advanced technology of OMET machines,
Eduard Pont, manager of OMET Iberica,
was the one who wove the bindings of such
a cooperation. And despite the diffi culties
connected to the strength of the European
currency at present compared to the Dollar
and then the price competition that American
manufacturers can exert, the results keep
up with expectations. “Several companies
manufacturing materials for packaging are
considering our offers concerning OMET
machines. - states the president and CEO of
the Group, Álvaro I. López, chemical engineer
with an experience of over forty years in the
packaging sector in Colombia, USA, Mexico
and Central America - The technical featu-
res of OMET machines, together with the
post-sale service program that Cosalco can
guarantee, is gaining a signifi cant interest in
a lot of potential customers. Unfortunately
the exchange rate is restraining us in such a
moment. But it is a factor due to the econo-
mic situation and therefore incidental”.
In particular the segments of the packaging
market showing the greatest development
potentialities In the area controlled by
Cosalco S.A. are four. “In the fi rst place the
segment of adhesive labels. - continues Álvaro
I. López - A traditional market, which has
large volumes and shows a particular atten-
tion for versatility of narrow-web printing
machines. Speed, fl exibility and high quality
are the main demands from the fi rms”.

A second attractive segment for OMET is the
one of roll-up labels: “The impetuous growth
of the industry manufacturing disposable
bottles, using special materials and high
labeling speeds - goes on the president and
CEO of Cosalco - offers great possibilities of
a rapid development for narrow-web printing
machines. OMET machine have nothing to
worry about also as far as “shrink packaging”
is concerned: the use of particularly thin fi lms
and the particularly high printing quality fi nd
an answer in the faultless register, cooling
drums and precision of tension control”.
Then there is the segment of folding cartons:
“In this sector the fl exibility of OMET prin-
ting machines - thanks to in-line insertion
of the die-cutting and piling-up units and
the employed advanced technology - have
determined great expectations on the market,
which should prove to be the most interesting
in the short term”.
At last fl exible packaging, a sector that is
more and more inclined towards the use of
narrow-web printing machines owing to the
numerous advantages they offer: speed, very
good printing quality and a strong cost reduc-
tion: “Even in this case - concludes Álvaro I.
López - OMET gearless technology represents
a competitive and particularly researched
factor on the market”.
