EXPECTATIONS by Susan Conly

Great expectations

We are now into the season of Advent a time of expectation mdash Christmas is coming

A time when as one Bible puts it lsquothe whole world stands on tiptoersquo remembering this amazing thing that happened in the stable in BethlehemmdashGod sent the worldrsquos first Christmas gift Love a Baby born A ldquoLoverdquo the world had never known before and we His people try to honour in our daily lives ever sincemdashwith special remembrance each Christmas as we re-enact the giving of Love in our gift-giving

But if Christmas looms up as something simply to survive because of all the hullabaloo the extra workmdashwe will miss the wonder and the glory the great expectationmdashand we have insulted our God

We are now in Advent remembering when centuries ago John the Baptist came out of the wilderness to announce that Godrsquos amazing gift to the world was about to arrive John a wild looking character in camel skin coat and flowing beard horrified those people who went to see himmdashthis a prophet Jesus scolded them ldquoWhat did you expect to see A man clothed in fine raiments mdashOr did you go to see Godrsquos prophetrdquo Jesus knew there is no winning with people whose minds are already made up and judge accordingly

John the Baptist was the original health food nutmdashlocusts and wild honey fasting shunning wine Then Jesus came He mixed with all kinds of people the riff raff eating whatever food he was offered drinking wine mdashThey called Him a glutton

The truth is that people lsquothenrsquo and lsquonowrsquo will see what they want to see and their expectations determine their conclusion If they are looking for something to appreciate they will find it if they are looking for something to criticize they will find that too Even Jesus could do no good works in the minds of those who criticized Him To them He was just the carpenterrsquos son nothing more But those who saw him as the promised Messiah experienced new life

We see what we expect

Yuri Gugarin Russian came back from the worldrsquos first manned flight into space and reported he had been to heaven and hadnrsquot seen Godmdash so there is no God

Gillespie Magee RCAF came back from his flight and wrote ldquoI have slipped the surly bonds of earth Put out my hand mdashand touched the face of Godrdquo

Expectations

On Christmas morning what do you expectmdashhullabaloo and a headache OR warmth and Love of family and friends mdash the Love that was wrapped up in a Baby and sent to the world for us all

The worldrsquos first Christmas gift

Town Council Changes Truck Route

Effective immediately the Town of Macklin is instituting a significant change to the community truck route The need to have a direct path through the community for heavy trucks has changed over the past decade with the removal of all the grain elevators The construction project along Press Avenue includes a base and asphalt structure for large and heavy trucks however the construction upgrades end at the intersection of Times Street Therefore effective immediately there will be no access for

heavy trucks into the community from the west via Express

Avenue and Time Street The flow of trucks and heavy

traffic will be limited to Press Avenue between Highway 31

and Times Street The attached map shows the highlighted

sections of the community affected by this policy change

At this time the Town of Macklin

Council amp Staff would like to wish you

all a Merry Christmas and
