August 3, 1944 – December 2, 2018
Ed Matz was born in South Sioux City, NE
and graduated from high school there, before
continuing his education at Morningside
College, where he received a degree in
business.
Ed was employed with Novelty Machinery
and Supply for many years before he
purchased Quality Mobile Home and Park
View Laundromat in South Sioux City.
Our Brother was raised to the Sublime Degree
of a Master Mason in Alpha Lodge #316, A.F.
& A.M. (later Omadi Lodge #5) in South
Sioux City, NE in May of 1983. He served as
Worshipful Master of Alpha Lodge in 1987
and 1988. Ed was well known for his
presentation of the Second Degree or Middle
Chamber Lecture.
Ed joined the Sioux City Scottish Rite Valley
with the Spring Class on March 7, 1986. He
was Invested with the Rank and Decoration of
Knight Commander of the Court of Honour on
October 4, 1999 and was Coroneted a 33o
Inspector General Honorary on December 5,
2009. Ed was an active Electrician for our
Reunions and served as Chairman of that
committee until his passing. He was also an
active member of our 8th Degree Team.

Prefatory
The Supreme Council of the Southern
Jurisdiction of the United States, under whose
authority we work, disclaims all jurisdiction or
control over the Degrees of Entered
Apprentice, Fellow Craft and Master Mason,
and accepts only applicants for its degrees who
are Master Masons in good standing in a Lodge
recognized by the Grand Lodge of the state in
which the applicant resides.
The Ineffable Degrees as conferred in this
jurisdiction begin with the Fourth and extend
through the Fourteenth, and are conferred in
Lodges of Perfection.
The Historical and Religious Degrees begin
with the Fifteenth and extend through the
Eighteenth, and are conferred in Chapters of
Rose Croix.
The Chivalric and Philosophical Degrees
begin with the Nineteenth and extend through
the Thirtieth, and are conferred in Councils of
Kadosh.
The Ceremonial and Official Degrees are the
Thirty-first and Thirty-second, and are
conferred in the Consistory.
