But until this year, pedestrian access to the picturesque shoreline was limited. The new Belfast Harbor Walk allows resi- dents and visitors to stroll, bike or jog the half-mile stretch along the downtown coast, from the Armistice footbridge, where one can fish while staring out to sea, to Steam- boat Landing Park, home to many festivals, activities, weddings, events and concerts. Along the way, stop to park your bike on one of the new racks, grab a local beer and some BBQ and have a picnic lunch, do a little shopping at a gallery or boutique, see what’s going on at The Boathouse, play some Frisbee or fly a kite in the park, rest for a moment on a bench, and take home memories of the view with your camera. This long-awaited $1.5 million project ensures that Belfast’s harbor will remain accessible for everyone to enjoy for gen- erations to come. Headed by City Planner Wayne Marshall, the harbor walk was begun, in part, because of the development of the new Front Street Shipyard. Funded by the city itself, along with state and federal agencies, the walk officially opened in November 2013. One of Belfast’s many charms is

that its busiest downtown block

ends, quite literally, at the ocean.

But until this year, pedestrian

access to the picturesque shoreline

was limited.

The new Belfast Harbor Walk allows resi-dents and visitors to stroll, bike or jog the half-mile stretch along the downtown coast, from the Armistice footbridge, where one can fish while staring out to sea, to Steam-boat Landing Park, home to many festivals, activities, weddings, events and concerts. Along the way, stop to park your bike on one of the new racks, grab a local beer and some BBQ and have a picnic lunch, do a little

shopping at a gallery or boutique, see what’s going on at The Boathouse, play some Frisbee or fly a kite in the park, rest for a moment on a bench, and take home memories of the view with your camera.

This long-awaited $1.5 million project ensures that Belfast’s harbor will remain accessible for everyone to enjoy for gen-erations to come. Headed by City Planner Wayne Marshall, the harbor walk was begun, in part, because of the development of the new Front Street Shipyard. Funded by the city itself, along with state and federal agencies, the walk officially opened in November 2013. Make use of it next time you’re downtown!
