On Your Mark, Get Set, Read!: Summer Reading Club 2016 · bring it to life using the art of...

PROGRAMS FOR ELEMENTARY KIDS (*Registration required for craft programs) Thursday, June 23rd—1:00—2:00 pm: Michigan Wetlands Critters The Outdoor Discovery Center will explain the life history and habitat of such animals as toads, frogs, salamanders, fish, leeches, dragonflies, damselflies and more. (for grades 1 to 4) Tuesday, June 28th—1:00 to 2:00 pm: Indoor Olympics Play the backwards race, egg-athlon-relay, foam plate discus throw, aluminum foil shot put and more. (for grades 1 to 4) Thursday, June 30th—1:00 to 3:00 pm: Stop-Animation Program * Every student will build their own stop-motion puppet and bring it to life using the art of stop-motion animation. Each participant will get a free DVD of all their work. (for grades 6 and up) Tuesday, July 5th—6:30—7:30 pm: Chalk Art Contest Create a real or fictional sports figure or logo. Winning designs will receive a prize. Chalk and drinks are provided. (a family program) Tuesday, July 12th—7:00 to 8:00 pm: Maciek the Magician See awarding winning Maciek perform astounding magical tricks. (a family program) Tuesday, July 19th—6:00 to 7:45 pm: Hawaiian Luau/Hula Program * We will make a Hawaiian lei and play hula hoop games. Kim from the Pacific Island Dancers will teach us the hula and a few Hawaiian words. Snacks are provided. (for grades 2 to 5) Wednesday, July 27th –10:30—11:15 am: Flying Aces at Hughes Park (rain place: Early Learning Center) This program is informative and humorous but you’ll also be amazed by the athletic skills displayed by the Frisbee performers. The show ends with an audience participation contest where teams of two compete for autographed Flying Aces Frisbees. (a family program) Elementary Program (cont.) Yoga for kids! A yoga class led by instructor, Andrea Keeley, will be offered Monday evenings from 5:00 to 6:00 pm, June 20th to July 18th (no class July 4th). This class is for students 1st to 5th grades. Classes explore yoga poses, breathing exercises, and games to develop patience and relaxation techniques. This is a walk-in, free program. Wednesdays, June 22nd to July 20th, 11:15 am to noon, we will have a building challenge with Legos. If you are in 2nd to 6th grade, bring a gallon size ziplock baggie of your own Legos. A theme will be announced and you will have 30 to 40 minutes to build. Two prizes are given: one for best builder and one by raffle. Come on over and build!!! Rules For Children's Reading Club

This club is for children, from infants and toddlers

(“read to me’s”) through 6th grade. Hudsonville library

cardholders may sign-up for free. For all other children

it is $10. You may register and get your reading record in

person or online (at our web page under Calendar/Events).

Sign-up by June 30 to get a chance to win four tickets to

Rebounderz.

1. Reading club charts go home with the children. They

will need to bring them back, signed by a parent, to get

their awards. There is an award given after every 180

minutes of reading for a total of 720 minutes. Reading

club begins June 13th and ends July 30th. (This is also

the last day for raffle tickets) Final deadline for returning

charts is Saturday, August 6th.

2. Children will receive a book bag, coupons from

Hudsonville Lanes, Pizza Hut, Horizon Gymnastics, the

Griffins, Orange Leaf Yogurt, Dutch Village, the White

Caps, the Grand Rapids Children’s Museum and Chipotle.

Those who finish will receive a book of their choice.

There will be weekly raffle drawings for prizes including

five grand prizes: Chromo Tablets (one pink, one silver),

Dancing Water Speakers, and one family four pack to

the Holland Aquatic Center or Air Zoo . (There will also

be a chance to win 4 tickets to a Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions,

Detroit Pistons, or Detroit Red Wings game. A John Ball Family

Pass will also be given away. Prizes are limited and include

participants at all West Michigan libraries.)

3. A bingo sheet of reading activities is available for those

who want to continue reading for another prize once their

chart is done.

4. Please register in person, by phone, or online (at our

web page under Calendar/Events) for the indicated (*)

programs. All other programs are walk-in but please

adhere to the age rule guidelines.

Guidelines For Teen Reading Club

This club is for young people 12* through 18 (7th grade

through high school). You may register and get your reading

record in person or online. (at our web page under Calendar/

Events) Hudsonville library cardholders may sign-up for

free. For all other teens it is $10. Sign-up by June 30 to get a

chance to win four tickets to Rebounderz.

1. Take a Teen Read form and keep track of the hours

you have read. There is a award given after every 4 hours

of reading. To get all the awards, you must read at least

12 hours. Reading club begins June 13th and ends

July 30th. ( This is also the last day for raffle tickets) Deadline

for returning charts is Saturday, August 6th.

2. Teens will receive the following awards: coupons from

Hudsonville Lanes, the Griffins, the White Caps, Orange

Leaf Yogurt, Chipotle and more. Those who finish will

receive a book of their choice and a pedometer. There will

weekly raffle drawings for prizes including the following

five grand prizes: $25 gift certificate to Meijer, Chromo

Tablets (one pink, one silver), Dancing Water Speakers,

and one family four pack to the Air Zoo . (There will also
