Message to our Members

arthur a. WeismanBoard President

Michael g. HymanExecutive Director

Dear Members,

This past summer we had the extraordinary privilege of serving more than 1,400 campers at our J-Day Camps and Camp Wise overnight camp. All of our camps provided so much more than a summer vacation: Campers learned new skills, gained independence, celebrated Shabbat and lived Jewishly. With tremendous ruach (spirit) and fun, campers stayed active on the lake, at the pool, at the archery range, in the arts and crafts shelters, singing, dancing and performing and playing and competing in sports.

But the fun and ruach weren’t limited to our campers! On June 29, The J hosted its second annual JRide Bike event! 230 cyclists of all ages biked 10, 25 and 50 mile routes through beautiful eastern Cuyahoga & Geauga Counties. JRide raised $10,000 which will help The J continue to offer financial assistance to those in need so that they can use all of our programs and services. Special thanks to our dedicated JRide committee, Jay Auto Group for serving as JRide’s major sponsor, and to all of our enthusiastic sponsors, volunteers and staff that helped make this event such a success.

And the fun and ruach definitely doesn’t end with the arrival of Fall. We have a fabulous slate of Fall events planned. Our 8th annual Mandel JCC Cleveland Jewish FilmFest, runs from September 4-14. This year’s FilmFest will be bigger and better than ever with a selection of international films that are truly “must see!” (pages 6-7). And the 15th annual Festival of Jewish Books and Authors, November 5-23, will bring to Cleveland some of the most exciting and compelling authors in the country (visit mandeljcc.org/bookfestival for author announcements.)

Lastly, you may have noticed something different about this Fall’s OnCenter. We’ve updated the cover and contents to make it more informative and easier for you to read about and register for our programs and services. Drop us a note at [email protected] to let us know what you like and don’t like and we will continue to make tweaks and improvements – all in an effort to serve you better.

As always thank you for your support through your membership and participation in so many of our programs and services. You are a very important part of our community and we look forward to seeing you often at The J this Fall.

The J strengthens our community in so many ways. It’s easy to forget that The J is a nonprofit organization and must rely on charitable donations in order to continue to serve so many.

Through the generosity of members, donors and foundations we are able to award nearly $400,000 in scholarships annually to 400 individuals and families in need so that they can fully participate in preschool, day camp, Camp Wise, membership and fitness.

Please consider a charitable donation to The J.
