Child Development Center 520-575-1521 Resurrection’s Mission Statement: Called by God’s Spirit, we are to be the
presence of Christ in our daily lives so that others will follow him.
A weekly publication for members and friends of Resurrection and the Child Development Center
Sunday, September 29 @ 10:00am in the
Music Room in O V’s Worship Center
This class gives you the opportunity to learn more about Resurrection, and you
will have the chance to decide whether or not you would like to make Resur-
rection your church home. Pastor Al will be in touch with you after you sign up
for the class. Please sign-up at church or call the church office at 575-9901.
It is with mixed emotions that I mailed
letters to the congregation on Mon-
day about my upcoming resignation as
Executive Pastor. On Sunday, Sep 15th,
Ascension Lutheran Church in Para-
dise Valley, AZ unanimously voted to
call me as their new Pastor. My last
day in the office at Resurrection will
be October 3, followed by vacation.
The official start date at Ascension
will be October 15.
I am so grateful for Resurrection’s impact on my Pastoral and personal life. It was
because of my internship here that I recognized my call to the Pastoral role. And
during my time here in the Pastor of Outreach and Executive Pastor roles, I have
grown personally, in pastoral experience, and in leadership skills. And though I am
sad to say good-bye to you, I am also excited about the opportunity to use my
skills and talents in new ways to impact God’s Kingdom.
For those who may not have heard, I am also blessed and excited to announce
that I was engaged on Labor Day to Alicia Gaston after a year and a half of dating.
There isn’t a date set yet, but we will keep you updated.
Thank you for your love and support since we met in 2011. This faith community
has made a significant impact for the Kingdom and yet, has so much more poten-
tial to share the transformative message of Christ’s grace one life at a time. God
bless you, the ministries of Resurrection, the ministries of Ascension, and the
Kingdom of God as a whole. Peace my friends, Pastor Randy

Come and Worship on Wednesdays!
All are welcome to gather around
God’s Word on Wednesdays at 6:15pm
at our OV campus.
We currently are learning about “12 Spiritual
Steps.” Taking a page from AA’s 12 Steps, we are
asking how we can take appropriate steps to be-
come healthier in our spiritual lives.
This Wednesday’s Spiritual Step will focus on
James 3:13-18. When we ‘make a searching and
fearless moral inventory of ourselves,’ we make
discoveries we have considered beforehand in
our lives.

FOLK TO ROCK, COUNTRY TO BLUES…MUSIC THAT INSPIRES
TUCSON LIFESTYLE magazine comments "solo, or
with her band, Amber Norgaard has proved to be a
singer/songwriter to be reckoned with...the petite
powerhouse is one part poet, one part social crusad-
er." Indeed, she has an ability to connect with people
of all ages and backgrounds. Her compassionate life
experience as a community health nurse in the Domin-
ican Republic, Oregon and southwestern Alaska and
her knack for the healing arts shine through in her mu-
sic.
Amber tours nationally. She has opened for Judy Col-
lins, Michael McDonald and Kenny Loggins. In addition
to performing, Amber writes songs for film projects
and humanitarian organizations. She also speaks on the
topic of "Music as a Healing Art & Instrument for So-
cial Change" at colleges.
Amber brings her band to Resurrection on Wednes-
day, October 2nd performing her own unique songwrit-
ing and musical style to our Prime Time Wednesday
audience. Show time is 12:30pm directly following Pas-

Resurrection is gearing up for its annual Christmas
Musical and it’s a zoo out here! Bethlehem’s homes
and inns may be bursting at the seams with travelers
for the census, but because of the animals they
brought with them, the stable is simply out of con-
trol. Camels, donkeys and goats up to the rafters!
Even the normally-sleepy hillsides are now teeming
with an abundance of sheep, and Bethlehem’s top
temp agency must call on their most eager but often-
inept family of workers, the Wooltons to step up
and answer the call (temporary “staffing” takes on a
whole new meaning!). What they expect to be an
unglamorous assignment will soon
put them face to face with the angel
Gabriel, a sky-full of the Heavenly
Host, and ultimately the Good Shep-
herd himself – Jesus!
This high energy show is open to kids of all ages. Re-hearsals are on Sunday afternoons from
12:30pm-2:00pm in Katie’s Quarters in the
Outreach Center. For questions, please contact AJ
Lepore at [email protected].
Rejoice Circle Resumes Wednesday, October 2
Rejoice circle will hold its first meeting of the fall season on Wednesday, October 2 at 10:15am in Katie’s Quarters. The study this fall is from the Gather Magazine and is en-
titled “No Hard Feelings.” It will study various Psalms and how they show emotions we all
have, but find difficult to accept and handle. Session one deals with anger – of God toward
humanity, humanity toward God, and people toward each other. We will see that our deep emotions matter
to God. We are again very fortunate to have Julie Sieger lead these studies. There will be printed copies of
the lesson for those who don’t get the magazine.
The first Wednesday of the month features a Prime Time lunch and professional entertainment and some
members may choose to attend after the Bible study. We look forward to getting together after the summer
“recess,” and we welcome anyone interested in a monthly Bible study that evokes lots of discussion and
sharing of our faith. For more information or questions, call Anne Movalson at 520-465-5142. Hope to see
you October 2nd with “No hard feelings”!
Life Groups
There are several Life Groups that have space availa-
ble for interested individuals. Life Groups are a great
way to meet other members of Resurrection, and an
especially great way for new members of the church
to get acquainted with fellow members and get to
know one another. There is so much to do and learn
at Resurrection.
To learn which Life Groups are open to additional
members, please go to the church’s web site at
https://www.orovalley.org/ and click on the
“Ministries” tab in the upper right hand side and click
on the “Life Group” link (https://www.orovalley.org/
life-groups.html). When the page opens, look for the
box labeled “Life Groups” Listing (https://
www.orovalley.org/uploads/1/1/5/5/115500829/
life_group_list.pdf) and you will see a list of all the Life
Groups. Note on the right side of the listings you will
see which groups are open or at full capacity.
Please contact the Life Group leader or a Life Group
Team Member for further information (https://
www.orovalley.org/life-group-ministry-team.html)
Marcia & Ken Rislov are wanting to form a second
playing card Life Group. Marcia & Ken are willing to
host an organizational meeting at their home, but are
looking to rotate to the homes of the group mem-
bers. If interested in joining this group or attending
the organizational meeting, please contact Marcia and
Ken ([email protected]) or any Life Group
Team member.
All men are invited to participate in this lay-
facilitated Men’s Life Group Bible Study. The next
session begins on Saturday, October 12 @
8:00am in OV’s Outreach Center. As a Men’s
Life Group Bible Study, we welcome all who would
like to study God’s Word and apply it to their walk
with Jesus, support one another through life’s cele-
brations and challenges and reach out to serve the
church, community and each other.
The meetings are typically on the second and fourth
Saturday mornings from 8:00am-9:00am in Luther’s
Lair in the Outreach Center at church.
The small group Bible study uses the Serendipity Bi-
ble for Groups, 4th Edition. Copies of this Bible are
available at the sessions. We are currently following the
Men’s strand Masculinity: Will the Real Jesus Please
Stand Up? lessons in this Bible for our study.
In the event you have questions, please feel free to
contact Duane Udstuen via phone/text at 612-518-
3690 or by email at [email protected].
This Life Group led by Resurrection member Mark
Griswold is in the process of forming. Anyone in-
terested in learning the techniques of Fly Fishing are
encouraged to contact Mark or a Life Group Team
Member (https://www.orovalley.org/life-group-
ministry-team.htm) There also may be instructions
on how to relate to others the stories of how the
big one got away.
Also, rumor has it Mark has fished in many parts of
the world, so travel experiences may be a bonus to
being part of this Life Group.

Resurrection’s Men’s Breakfast kicks off
its 12th season on Saturday, October 5
at 7:30am in the Outreach Center Gym. All men are
invited to join us for a scrumptious breakfast
(provided by Don and Roseanne Thurmond and Fran
Venet) and presentation by members and people of
the community. Jack McCabe, with the Arizona State
Parks, speaking about the Parks System, will be our
guest speaker. Please sign up at church or call
the church office at 520-575-9901.
Updating our Church Accounting System
We now have a fund where you
can help us, if you are willing, to
implement a new accounting sys-
tem at Resurrection. The current
system cannot keep up with the
demands we ask of it. And… with
new additions, there is usually a cost. There is one
for this needed addition as well. The unbudgeted
costs will range somewhere between $40,000 to
$60,000. Can you help?
Here is an update of the fund:
As of September 20, we have been gifted $14,130.
We would certainly be thankful if you decide to help in this effort (please note Accounting Project on
your donation). Thank you!
How does the idea of being in the comfort of your
own home while watching a movie that didn’t cost
you anything sound to you? The next time you are
on the OV campus, stop in “Luther’s Lair” and visit
the Life Group library. There you will find a nice
collection of Christian movies that will provide you
entertainment, as well as a spiritual boost. And you
don’t even need to spend much time looking at the
movie selections. That can be done by following this
link to see all the movies along with a brief synopsis of the story line. (https://www.orovalley.org/
u p l o a d s / 1 / 1 / 5 / 5 / 1 1 5 5 0 0 8 2 9 /
library_movies_directory.pdf) While you are at the
web site, check out all the other materials the li-
brary has to offer. Books, study guides and much
more. Who knows, maybe the Spirit will move you
to select a topic of interest and start a Life Group
of your own. It's all there waiting for you to check
out. Visit the Q&A section (https://
www.orovalley.org/uploads/1/1/5/5/115500829/

out materials or answering most any questions you
might have about the library.

ing, please communicate that interest to Mike or
any Life Group Team Member or call the church

Fall Handbell Choir Schedule
GosBell Ringers– a beginning/intermediate choir. If
you have played handbells before or can read music
and have some musical experience, this choir might
be for you. Rehearsals are Monday nights 6:00pm-
7:00pm in the Music Room. This group will play for
Saturday Services approximately every 8 weeks and
on special occasions at our Saddlebrooke Services.
Las Campañas Gloria – an advanced bell choir.
Previous musical experience is needed. If you have a
strong musical background, even if not in bells – we
need you! If you have played before at Resurrection
or another congregation, please consider joining! Re-
hearsals are Monday nights 7:00pm-8:30pm. This
group will play for Sunday Services approximately
once a month.
Need more information? Please contact Ann Paulson
([email protected] or 797-2456) to let her know you
plan to attend.
It's time for our annual diaper drive in support of the Diaper Bank of Southern Arizona.
Collection of donations will be on October 5th & 6th.
Did you know that the Diaper Bank of So. AZ was established in 1994 and was the first of its kind in the
U.S? There are now over 240 similar organizations across the country. The Diaper Bank exists to provide
infant diapers and incontinence briefs to those individuals and families who fall below the poverty line. Most
government assistance programs do not allow their funds to be used for these types of products, forcing
those in need to seek assistance elsewhere.
The need is great for both infant and adult diapers. Actual diaper donations are greatly appreciated and can
be brought to the church on the weekend of October 5th and 6th. Financial donations are also ex-
tremely beneficial as the Diaper Bank has the buying power for these types of products that we don't
have as individuals, and it allows the Diaper Bank to fill voids in the inventory they have at any given time to
support those in need.
As in past years, diaper donations will also be accepted at the Craft Fair and Fall Festival.
Thanks to all of you in advance for your support of this important outreach ministry!
Saturday & Sunday, October 5-6
It's that time of year again! You
know, when we all come back
to share with you the joys and
wonders of Our Lord, through
song. Music is such a wonderful way to share, praise
and worship. It's also a fantastic way to connect with
others. I have been a part of the Chancel Choir since
we met in the Little Theater at CDO HS. This has
given me to chance to meet so many different peo-
ple and make lasting friendships. It has also allowed
me a creative outlet. The countless cantatas and per-
formances have been experiences I will cherish for a lifetime.
Did you know you can be a part of the music minis-
tries at Resurrection? The Chancel Choir sings at the
first Service on Sunday mornings and rehearses on
Thursdays at 7:00pm. If you love music, you should
come and join us, we'd love to have you!
Dolly Pivonka
P.S. Thank you for the new choir robes, they are ab-
solutely lovely!
